bpe students are the top students of nyu stern

for sure

from experience

but most of them drop the major going up the grades

i heard its mainly bc of how rigorous the classes were compared to the rest of stern

recruiting bpe students all do well

its not about that

its more about the amount of support you get

BPE has amazing support

but its unfortunately much harder

that's why a top student in stern who is in BPE might have a lower GPA than an average student in Stern in normal business

but BPE is like being a stern club, their alum support and their general events is very exclusive to bpe only and is great i heard

but then again BPE's acceptance this year was like 1-2%

msot people apply not expecting to get in

a lot of my friends chose stern bpe over many ivy league econ acceptances

Yea! I'm a junior at stern rn and about to do my masters at Stern post grad

Personally I love it here

all the people are great

The "competitive" culture people think it's very toxic lies on the curriculum itself

not the people

everyone shares notes for exams, very open to studying tgt, nobody is trying to kill eachother

its just that the some stern courses only give 30% of the students an A so people tend to study harder but thats pretty much it

i was at brown for econ/applied math for freshmen and transferred

didnt regret one bit

i also was very interested in the BPE program but unfortunately BPE does not accept both internal and external transfers

the career i'm going into pays 1.5-1.7x more with a masters degree which is a great bonus for js 2 years of more school

Yeah I see a lot of people with this concern

living in a campus isn't too special

sure there is a big football game like once every couple months

and all the buildings are huddled into a specific area just for your school

but like it's really boring after a couple months

like there is nothing to do

on the other hand nyc has so much stuff going on

so much things to do

and the buildings are mostly huddled together in one area so around the washington square park it's 95% nyu buildings and mostly nyu students

honestly i would choose NYU's city culture all day over having a "campus" in the middle of a farmland

collegetowns are also boring asf

brown is known for having a beautiful collegetown and college campus

it gets boring after a month trust me the only thing to do is hang out in ur friends dorms

or maybe frat parties

but frat parties are not fun too after a couple times its more of an experience

and football games are really js once in a season type thing it's not worth choosing a college campus js to attend some college football games and go to frat parties

every club has a "general membership" in a sense that everyone can attend every regular meetings

there are non-stern eboard members in a lot of different stern clubs as long as they aren't strictly "stern only" clubs

that's not entirely true

most experienced finance recruiters, especially at top investment banks and consulting firms, are aware of school grading policies

so a 3.5 at a school with a curve like this would be considered equal/or as good as a 3.7 in a grade inflated school

it just depends on the context

i mean yes and no your recruiter is gonna be from your school so tthey know about your policy and etc but there still a basic gpa minimums in which schools w/ super hard curves suffer slightly more vs non hard curve schools, and additionally a curve like this creates a more toxic culture internally vs other schools

Yea for sure but it's not as toxic as it seems, nobody is trying to hurt one another. It's just the same as every other school in a sense that we are just working as hard as we can individually not trying to bring another down necessarily

i feel like the "toxic" culture reputation stern has purely derives from random people who havent even attended the school hating on it or people struggle to adapt and don't really put in as much effort as others and get bad grades, complaining about the "curve" whereas it's purely their fault

90% of the people I know and my experience has been great and we all have been able to achieve great careers

my friend with a 3.3-3.4 gpa has gotten an offer from morgan stanley as well

i mean thats very rare and i dont think it can be attributed to stern precisely, and meanwhile i dont think stern can rack up such a reputation mainly from others hating on it but i do agree w/ the idea it is exaggerated so maybe it isnt too bad

but it's not really a rare case, as long as you maintain 3.5 and above you should be fine
