now that you have an idea of your background, think about how its shaped the way you approach the world today and what that means for you not just in the present, but also the future. think about how your background enriches not just who you are today but propels you forward

then you can begin to tie in what that means for columbia through how you will shape clubs, like you said, or bring something so valuable to campus

when seats expand at college the expectation is still the same among applicants. columbia will not drop the expectation of what they look for in candidates just because an extra 200 seats exist at their college

my point is while they may accept more people making it “easier” to get in, it doesnt change the fact your application is still viewed the same way as it has in the past

i think you’re focusing on the wrong thing here

when you write the columbia supplementals i would get rid of the mentality of “i need to show the aos i know a lot about columbia”

if you focus too much on trying to put too much information in to make it seem like you’ve done your research on the school, yet have no center message on why columbia is meant for you, the supplement loses power in crafting ur narrative

i think your first idea is what you should stick with. focus on the parts of columbia that genuinely attract you and make columbia just right for you, not what you think aos need to hear to make it seem like you’ve done research on them!

aos know they have 24/7 dining halls, thats not something new to them, and i would bet most students would love this too! basically every student would!

but ask yourself instead why the core is right for you and what specific aspects of it make columbia just right for you. this will get u a much better response + much better contribution to your application

try to think deeply about how what the core has and teaches and how that connects to your background, your experiences, interests (really just who you are). a simple example is a book they might teach i guess, and how you backgrounds might add new perspectives to a classrooom at the core!

also you can always show your knowledge of columbia by being specific about the school, whether that be through the core or dining hall or forest orientation: specifcity is key. so dont worry about the topic per se
