I pray to get off the waitlist
yo 😭 are we real
Is there a discord server for admitted Duke students
^ me second
3rd
can anyone offer some perspective in deciding between duke, jhu and northwestern for electrical or mechancial engineering
duke and jhu are full ride . northwestern haven't gotten aid yet
if no aid NU u gotta def choose between duke and jhu
jhu is known most for its premed and biology but i have heard noone talk about their engineering program
Duke does have a good program id say its more well rounded than jhu
I do have some bias for duke so I'd def choose duke
im pretty sure i'll get full aid because they give full aid to families earning below 75k from what i know
lmao i also have some bias my brother goes to duke too
bro, then you should def go to duke
see you on campus!
he is graduating this year tho
still
Wish I could help, but im biased towards Duke
I feel like Duke has this special energy no other school has
like their student body
The drama that happened recently XD
Oh can you inform me on this
the basketball game?
Student gov
O
Im in nyc rn so I missed out on the gossip perspective
do spill the tea
yes..
Long story short, some of dsg presidential candidates decided to play politics. The one I was working for got the short end of the stick and all the accusations against them were completely made up.
But, I bet this will blow over before summer starts.
people fighting for power huh
this is why i never liked joining student councils
Imo, it's an interesting game to play. Tho, not one I will win or survive if I'm at the center of it.
i gpot in!!!
jhu is ranked 1 in bme 😭
their mechE is also p decent
duke's strongest egr departments are bme and then probably ece(?)
it's hilariously stupid how much finger pointing is going on
the only good thing that happened was both referendums got passed
context: my sister goes to jhu (and i go to duke) so my opinion on the two:
duke and jhu are strong in really similar things (bme and pubpol are both are insanely good); jhu's campus location is located just in baltimore while duke is more isolated from the rest of the city
jhu food sucks according to my sister and i love duke's food... take that how you will
jhu lacks a major school spirit/there's nothing to really do and baltimore is not that safe of a city relatively speaking; duke has a major sports culture and school spirit and is pretty safe because it's not really attached to the city (also durham is not the most exciting of places to be depending on where you currently live)
jhu and duke both have amazing medical school/grad programs; jhu som is not directly attached while duke som is on campus but in a separate area from where classes and stuff are
jhu's research is heavily in the bio/med and adjacent fields (incl pubpol) and a large portion of undergrads are premed (which can feel a bit isolating if you're not premed); duke research also focused in very similar fields though imo it's more interdisciplinary overall (ofc there's a spectrum for both campuses in a case-by-case basis) duke has a more spread out student population in terms of majors
there's not a "wrong" choice between the two and im sure youll enjoy both of them; consider what your priorities are in terms of the college life you want to experience in academics and also beyond that space
most egr majors at duke are bme or ece; jhu is primarily just bme (and iirc meche)
I don’t hear anything‼️duke is number 1
Yeah I was talking about like the pure engineering not bme
obviously jhu mogs every school for bio/medical related major
pure engineering isn't really a "thing" at least in the usa; usually engineering gets separated by the speciality when you pick a major (mechanical, bme, civil, etc etc)
Oh thats interesting, I thought of it like bio where all the other subbranches kinda center around general biology
But at the end of the day OP should choose duke ngl 🙏🙏
I was suprised how extreme it got
What do yall think of bringing a small, suitcase-fitable desktop to the dorm?
I do have a macbook air for lectures, I would love to occasionally game in my room tho
you could though id say it's a bit impractical based on packing; i brought a keyboard and mouse which i just connected to my laptop for work + any games or stuff so long as it could be run on a macbook pro
if packing space isn't a concern then you maybe could but generally speaking most ppl don't bring that stuff; there's a room on west (link classroom 6 i think) that has a bunch of gaming stuff but it's also a classroom so it's not openly available during the week (and it's also on west so as a freshman you can't easily/always get there in a reasonable time)
Yeah the problem is that I'll also have to get myself a monitor
im seeing some ppl on instagram having straight up TVs in their rooms, is this something they purchased individually or provided by certain dorms?
so like, im going to be so fr
this is the duke difference 😭
yeah dw tho those ppl are few and far
MOST people ive met do not have TVs in their rooms
there are TVs in the common room
is like most of the student body ridiculously rich like what I see on instagram
I'm talking about CEO children
Like, kids who have doctor and lawyer parents are considered low income there?
ok we're not THAT rich
ok like there's def some ppl who are from multimillion/billionaire families
bro why social media scaring the frick out of me
yeah thats every school but
but like it's not everyone
they make it sound like I'll be rejected everywhere if my daddy doesn't make millions
yes a lot of ppl here (myself included being completely honest) are part of the upper class
that being said the way ppl display that varies a lot; some ppl spend hundreds to thousands of dollors; personally speaking i think ive spent maybe like 300-400 dollars since august on dinner w/ friends + groceries
you'll fit in fine so long as you aren't walking up to a girl/guy and flexing your $5000 monthly allowance (yes this actually happened and yes they were trying hit on a girl) being obnoxiously insensitive to other ppl
nah those ppl are still like high income but maybe closer to the median just because duke does contain a lot of upper class families
but by no means are they low income by either metric
Thats quite reasonable spending considering how it costs to eat out these days
still bummed out that its considered the median
damn
yeah i try to think of myself as a low-ish spender at least compared to others
youll fit in just relax a bit 😭
ik it's super stressful and i cant imagine being an international student helps with that either but trust me youll be fine
on campus food is really good imo
duke's known for its dining halls
tysm vro
if u ever need anything next sem feel free to msg lol
theres also 9th street
I feel like im turning bipolar these days lol I'm so happy to be accepted to my dream school and then I'm sitting worrying how I'll fit in
can you give me some good restaurant recommendations!
it's like a street in walking distance of east campus w/ a bunch of restaurants
wheat (chinese restaurant) is pretty good
there's also like korean bbq (i think) which i havent been to/tried before (despite living in cali and in walking distance of one)
there's a ramen place which i thought was pretty good and there's a really cute ice cream shop (pincho loco) that is an amazing place to grab dessert and its on the way walking back to campus
yeah i hope you feel better abt it
i think youll fit in though duke has a wide range of personalities
Alright ill def check it out in august
As a korean I will be rating how good it is when I get there
lmfao lmk if it's worth going to
im exited
THANK GOD
ima be craving for kbbq
yeah im going to duke for the food btw
Does anyone have a good idea of how Duke econ compares to other programs like wharton or uchicago?
if ur tryna go into econ, wharton is just better
they have a dedicated school for business 😭
uchicago is good for if youre looking to go into government stuff iirc
I know I just am not sure if Duke is like close in quality or significantly worse
i wouldnt say it's significantly worse; duke econ is still a very strong program as a whole and i believe has good placements
I got accepted! is there a server for admitted students?
Someone said they wouldn't say it's significantly worse. I second that. While Duke doesn't have a biz school, we do have very strong alumni network. Between Wharton and Duke all else equal, my take would be which competitive environment can you survive in.
Is Duke also super competitive or are you mostly referring to wharton with that part?
For finance, Dukies dont gatekeep
Unless there is an active reason to dislike you
If you dont get into a Duke biz frat, the members will still help you ask if you ask
Yes
Rush almost all of them twice and didnt get into a single one
Pretty common tho
Oh my
Just as common to see one person get into multiple biz orgs
Is it super interview heavy
I see I see
I dont regret rushing at all, tbh. Met a few friends and acquaintances this way.
duke
Is the duke igotin worth it
hey guys! do any of you guys know what the student culture is like there
ive heard a couple of things but its mostly from the website so i wanted to hear it from an actual duke student
iirc usnews says JHU is better than Duke for mechE and EE if that even means anything lol 😭😭
(Also I’m coping as a Duke reject)
id hope jhu ee is better than duke ee
especially considering we dont have ee
what specifically are you interested in knowing about
practically speaking? there's no real value to igotin or any of the other like accounts where u can post urself for free
duke doesn't let you pick freshman year roommates which is one of the primary benefits for those types of posts in searching for potential ppl
if you want to just post it for the sake of celebrating by all means i encourage you to do that (personally i never made any posts abt but id say most ppl prob do)
is there a particularly strong greek life culture there?
also is it cliquely or separated by wealth
also to add on, freshmen arrive at campus a week earlier than everyone else for smth called experimental orientation (aka O week) where you're in a mini orientation group themed around a certain thing and spend time with a bunch of other freshmen which is usually where most ppl start interacting and making their initial set of friends
don't feel pressured to have to make friends during first semester btw; it's totally normal to not find ppl immediately (regardless of college) and a lot of ppl end up meeting their long term friends in the spring or even in a diff year altogether
there's a strong greek culture however it's entirely disaffiliated with the university
meaning that all activities related to frats and what not happen off campus entirely
personally im not involved at all with frat stuff so i cannot speak much abt dynamics of frats but it's totally normal and possible to enjoy duke without engaging with frats
some ppl aren't part of frats but still buy bands to go to parties and that's also totally normal; id say duke as a whole is very open and diverse in terms of how you want to live your college life
if this question is related to duke as a whole ill be honest and say yes there's some cliquiness/wealth separation
but those ppl set themselves out as being like that by themselves; we do have people who come from insanely rich (multi million/billion dollar families) and some ppl may either be ignorant to insensitive about their wealth status but in my experience most i talk to dont really care/talk about wealth in any significant way
^ that being said this is my opinion and i also don't interact with the party scene much here so hopefully another duke student could comment on that if they're more involved in that aspect of campus life
ohhh okay i see
np lmk if u have any qs
tyty
I'm helping plan Duke orientation this year. Happy to any specific questions you have too.
ru gonna be an exo leader
i was considering paying for its chatroom service, I am struggling to find any sort of group chats between incoming freshmen
tbh i wouldn't; i arrived on campus knowing literally no one and was able to figure it out
also exo week is usually when most ppl meet for the first time and make friends and id say a majority of non NC residents go in without knowing anyone (even as like the 2nd or 3rd most represented state i basically knew no one and i think a lot of ppl were similar)
Do you get to know who you will roomie with after you get on campus?
you'll get to know beforehand through housing portal (make sure to check your duke email frequently for the weekly updates and stuff)
id highly recommend reaching out to them and discussing stuff and working out things
Is there anything we gotta do before May
know that might be silly
Ik there's the blue devil days
exo form; housing form (really straight forward); bdd if ur nearby and want to come (come say hi!); constellation form
^ not sure if this would before may but it happens before u get on campus
every week duke sends out a newsletter w/ like the top 5 relevant things
oh
like go check your immunizations
and make sure you're up to do date with duke's standard
depending on where you're from some vaccines might be optional but duke mandates them
I live in NC (only an hour from Duke!!) so I should be up to date
I'll def drop by for bdd
duke has on site vaccination things at the start of the year but that's like a last resort thing but def check this for yourself
yeah youll get emails with a bunch of stuff reminding u abt this
also also also
be aware freshmen get lack pick to classes
when the time comes around (and this means like not anytime soon rlly), make sure you're looking at classes with seats available AS WELL AS having 1-2 alternative classes if the class u want fills out
focus fixes your dorm to a preset one where other focus students live
why does duke talk like chatgpt wtf
focus is 2 classes req in 1 semester and then then u take writing in the other
constellation is 3 classes; 1 fall + 1 spring + you get assigned to take writing in the spring or fall
focus has like focus dinners with the clusters and constellations have a big experiential thingy but like lwk it's not signficantly meaningful on which u choose
does anyone know if theres a admitted students gc?
so just whatever u find interesting
there's potentially is but im going to be so honest co2029 has a discord that literally no one uses like ever
it's weird but like u basically have a big group project/group experience as a whole constellation and it's highkey just annoying as a whole but like no one really cares
constellations are new and only the co2029 will have done them
ohh interesting
it accurately reflects the student population
🔑
and georgia tech is better than both of them 🙂
im coping as a JHU WL warrior and duke reject
Fr, GT is way better for AE🙏🏾
Coping as a Duke reject😭
gtech mech and ee are amazing and def better than duke
i think duke is only similar in bme (and maybe ece(?))
gtech is amazing for that type of stuff
maybe so, im probs doing like EE or ECE sum at GT
you going to GT as well ?
🔥
Tis the plan🙏🏾
fire
I assume that’s where you’re looking too?
“you people”…
i like how pepol associate me with the pitt and ping me
yeah that or UW-seattle
i have other options but way to expensive for what they are tbh
That’s so real, yeah
Thanks alot for the response! i am torn between duke and northwestern right now . i don't think jhu would be a good choice purely because of the alumni network . there were only about 20 EE majors who graduated last year from jhu thats a very small class size. its mainly a graduate school with most of the class size being in the masters program which i don't plan to do . i value industry placement and startup funding alot more then research too so im between nu and duke right now
also duke allows double majoring between engineering majors pretty easily and i would love to double major in ece and mech e
waiting for my northwestern aid package and my transfer decision from the school of arts and sciences to the engineering building . so will see how that goes
I was an OL last year. I'm on O-Board as log member.
if you're doing EE i would recommend duke > northwestern
also duke is generally a more "work hard, play hard" campus so you'll have a great time there
they all have similar rankings anyways so might as well choose based on fin aid and the campus life
duke doesnt have ee
we have ece which is slightly different in terms of what they focus on iirc
duke ece (and egr in general) is a smaller group of students compared to other majors at duke (though more than 20 people for sure); if youre interested in industry id prioritize whichever ends up giving a better fin aid package
yo i forgot to fill out this section and just clicked submit on my admissions reply form
should i email them to give them the info or nah
are you going to duke?
They say its just for survey purposes You dont need to do it
They also made it do it for admits as well
oh okay i see
gotchu. this is the degrees awarded for the ece department per year. so yeah they are decently bigger
could you explain?
ayo northwestern even smaller then jhu lmao 14 grads for ee
the only thing going for northwestern right now is their coop system i guess
does anyone see this in their portal 😢 it literally disappeared after 4/1
I have this
hey! if you dont mind, which external full ride scholarships did you apply to
is it cause of this lmao
as international i have no chance
my family can pay but we will be risking stuff ngl
i have to pray for merit aid
They're need aware yeah so it might get tricky
yeah pretty sure i had smth similar at some point on my portal
duke does have a scholarship for international students but im pretty sure it's automatic if u accept for merit based scholarhips
just to advertise duke more the ece deparment got a huge donation recently so i expect them to do stuff helpful to the department with the money
I applied as no financial aid but idk if there was an option for accepting merit scholarships
- im prob not qualified to recieve one
are the on-campus jobs minimum wage?
You’re automatically entered into them iirc
Search up karsh merit scholarship
I don’t think you qualify for work study if ur not getting need based aid but there are campus jobs that will pay you without it
registered for bdd <3
$18 or $20/hr which is better than north carolinas minimum wage of $7.25, yikes
Also here's more info about on campus employment for international students https://visaservices.duke.edu/employment/campus-employment-authorization/
wow, $7.25 is so low
yeahh
how is minimum wage $7.25???
that's the federal minimum wage idk 😭 some places like to do the bare minimum 😭
What fun things are there to do on campus at duke or raleigh/durham
duke gardens, nash museum of art, eno river hiking, lemur center, beer gardens are everywhere, downtown durham is cute, basketball games, there's an arts center on campus where you can do arts and crafts
some people like franklin street which is on UNCs campus
food: Monuts, Heavenly Buffaloes, Twisted Noodle, Namu
there's also farms you can go fruit picking and stuff and do haunted trails in the fall
but honestly i find exploring all the ins and outs of duke campus and surrounding area an adventure in itself
apparently a lot of people like the law cafeteria
there's also a chik fil a in the hospital cafeteria
raleigh i have no idea about stuff other than the mall but i'm sure there's lots of things
omg yes farms!! ive been telling so many people about the farms some of these schools have, either attached to them or neighboring, and i think its so cool u can go and explore them
i love farms so so much
i love farmers markets so so much
i just am a farm lover
yoooo sounds great
dirt bike trails 👀 ?
oooo sounds great
which aps should I send in if I am going bio/premed
you can send all of them! as long as you take upper level bio coursework (which you will be as a bio major), medical schools accept that as your biology requirements
anyone get acceptence packs yet?
heavenly buffalos is so good
genuinely some of the best wings ive had
downtown durham has tons of things to do. there are like a dozen museums, a fine arts center which hosts everything from plays to musicals and operas, lots of good restauraunts (both fast food and nice, local eateries) and tons of bars and cafes. there's a great ice cream place on 9th street that some freshman go to study. 9th street in general has a lot of convenient food and shopping stuff
No and I live in NC 💔
I opted for delivery but im in korea so idk if it was a wise decision
Is it really worth it to take upper level tho? since premed is so dependent on GPA. I know that AP credits count toward graduation requirements but not sure if it does for premed requisites
The upper levels count for premed requisites.
Also upper level literally just means a 200 bio class or higher. so like a non intro bio course (aka bio 101). Which you'll be doing plenty of as a bio or life sciences major, it's also not difficult to fit in one or two into your schedule. I loved the neurobio class which I think is a 200 level course.
It's definitely worth not having to repeat intro classes because sometimes the intro classes are harder and more weed out-y than they need to be. and also any upper division course will typically reintroduce concepts they want you to know
Which classes do you have ap credits for?
bio, chem, bc, stat, lang are the usable ones i have
im deciding whether to take physics c and lit this year
i did sign up but i can opt out
I think the nice part about take it is the credits transfer is that it'll permanently be on your college transcript as a course you passed. And you never know when u might need or want to refer to that if at all.
You'll definitely need/want to do phys and english again in college anyways though
Yes, I'll probably get a 4/clutch a 5 for physics and I would definately want to learn it again in college. Not too confident in my skills atm so I do not feel safe skipping
I really do want to use my BC credit since I took it during 10th grade and im learning partial differential equations atm
Chem is the only tricky one where if you place out of it, there's not a lot of upper level coursework to choose from to do instead.
Stats there's plenty of courses to do so it doesn't matter. Also... I did ap stats and got a 5 I believe and took stats 101 again anyways at duke and it wasn't a problem.
so for chem I would still transfer the credits but then do the honors chem course at Duke.
I also know a lot of people who went straight to orgo freshman year and were fine and did a different gen chem elective, but the only people I can think of who did that either did pchem which is pretty challenging orrr were biomedical engineers in which case some of the bme classes counted as chem
Just to clarify, the courses skipped using ap credits don’t count towards premed requirements right?
But two towards trinity graduation reqs
It depends on the medical school. They can but every school has a different policy, so it's safer to do an upper level in biology and chemistry in college, that's usually what they'll recommend if you have AP credit already.
A lot of schools will usually just be fine with it for fulfilling the math or physics premed requirements though.
Hearing from you, I’m heavily considering skipping bio 101 straight to 201 and 202. I’m not sure if I should touch anything outside bio and math since I’m not too confident in them
I’m completely oblivious about premed course requisites and ap policies, will the admissions director help me during orientations week 😭😭
It's up to you, but I honestly found little to no difference or benefit in repeating an AP course for me personally because all of the content was revisited. And also the intro classes at duke, especially calculus, were unnecessarily difficult from what I saw. Because I did great in the ap course and I did fine in calculus concepts in engineering, but my roommate who never took calc and was in duke's intro calc, i was like, why are they making you do these problems?? for someone's first time seeing calculus before it was kinda extra to me. And, I did my master's at duke too, whenever, if we needed an integral, they'd just go over it again.
do you have a duke netid and login already?
Yes, completely what I have been feeling even during my senior year. Ap physics c uses calculus but like 3% of what you learn during bc 😭 No way I’m taking calculus again
I committed on 4/3, still waiting
ok, the prehealth advising office has a checklist of what classes they recommend based on which AP credits you have already. I can send it to you
Omg. I’d be so thankful if you could 🙏
I’m Asian so I’m not super familiar with the U.S. college scene, and I don’t even go to Duke, but I’ve always seen it as a really good school.
But whenever I’m scrolling Instagram or TikTok and come across posts about college rankings, “what did you pick Duke over,” or people sharing why they chose Duke / how they got in, there ar...
I didn’t know people unironically did this
My Duke hate was always a joke bc there is one Duke person who used to be in here long ago who I really do not like
This implication is a lil funny tho icl
Do people hate Duke for other reasons than the men's basketball team 😭
I figured that's the main reason
It's been cool to hate Duke since the 90s
idt it's that common outside of basketball, but i think some people are naive and think it's worse than an ivy based on like layperson prestige. aka people who think they know how academia works who've only heard of hypsm
so no it's not a real hate other than a lack of knowledge
in academic and professional circles duke isn't hated lol
how much is ts waitlist gonna move 🙏
yo guys I (stupidly) did not apply for financial aid when I initially applied because i assumed cost wouldn't be a problem
can i still apply now
im a us citizen living abroad
If you're a citizen pretty sure you can
Intls can't though
oh okay
im js scared theyll cook my ahh for not applying before admission and rescind my app
They're need blind for domestic so shouldn't affect anything
they dont rescind u over that lol
duke is need blind
are they need blind if i live outside the US tho
cause i heard somewhere that they consider all people attending high school outside the US international for admissions
no
ur a domestic individual
u have us citizenship

Ofc 💙💙💙
@maiden apex @odd narwhal if y'all want I can send an invite to the Duke ‘30 server, it's lowkey kinda dead Im tryna get people in it 😭
You just need to send your acceptance letter to verify
Yeah lmfao why not
Check DMs
I dmd that guy on reddit
Is it the same server
Dm me!
Yeah prob
He aint reading mine yet and the school server share thing is somehow disabled in my country rn
I’d happy if you could send me an invite
can you send me that invite
oh shoot really
do they still give out aid offers
for first year
do u have us citizenship status?
Ya
Reply to the email
Some AI definitely read the email and suggested that pre written reply to a busy office worker who selected it
If you bump it they’ll manually review it
I did 🥲 now gotta wait another 5 days
huh really
wait i emailed karsh and they just opened the financial aid app for me
I didnt mention my citizenship status in my first email
Just explained my financial situation
bruh thats probably why 😭
I doubt i will be able to get aid anyways tho 😔
wait why
im kinda middle class
Not enough to recieve aid but paying full tuition will strangle us a bit
Then thats good for me
Our currency exchange rate increased like 10% past few months
Admissions packages seem to be rolling out
Although I live in NC lol
it's lowkey mid 💔
a poster, stickers, and ur letter
boo this is like brown
these schools need to amp up their marketing!
how u gonna yield someone by sending them a poster and stickers??
It's funny that my lower ranked schools sent the better packages
these schools need to step up
cause why we sending merch like we can’t screen print anything for $0.50
at least a pennant would be nice
they don’t even do that 😭 😭
takes like 2 cents to make
The poster is cute though
Also kitchen reveal
They used some nice ass paper for the letter like it legit has a scent 😭
Maybe I'm just crazy
wtf i never got this
ok well at least ur getting a package
why did i never get one kf those wtf
at least last year, they gave a shirt at Blue Devil Days

On my duke LOCI is it more valuable to emphasize what I’ve done since my application or my fit for the school and connection to culture?
what else do they give u :3
Are you popping out at BDD
Nothing too crazy
yes
7 waitlists surely i get off one 😭 duke being my dream one
we are getting off the waitlist
i really want to attend bdd but a plane ticket back and forth is 2k dollahs
fellow waitlist warrior
its so cooked
dw gang
i got 7 waitlists too
im only gonna write locis for 3 of them tho
way too much work as a senior
i literally got 0 acceptances
damn what thats so unforunate
only one was my state school
got waitlisted from 7 and like rejected 4
why r there so many waitlists this year lmaooo
i got 2/7/3 record
on the bright side that means at least one of them will take you right
I mean statistically like a 30% chance i got off one 😭
too many applicants
we got unlucky with this cycle
its gonna happen
hopefully for both of us lol
lmao i just got fully destroyed
i might js be delusional but a bunch of really cool colleges waitlisted me
tbf my waitlists r like all reaches
so i guess they think im still a good applicant 🔥
i applied 1 safety and then all reaches
ohh i see
i did like basically only t10s + cmu and rice so i wasnt expecting super good results haha
lmao I did t10s and then washu, rice, and vandy
basically i got rejected HYPS and waitlisted everywhere else
oh shoot
i got rejected harvard upenn and princeton 😭
waitlist everywhere else other than duke + rice
thank you!!!!
idk how i got cooked by rice i go to a feeder 😭
and i have washu legacy
I shoulda EDed someone
i thought i was cooked after ivy day but i got saved somehow
LMAO i wish i got saved but nah
still waitlists
well theres probably gonna be a lot more waitlist movement this year
so dont give up js yet lmaooo
I genuinely hope so 😭
im not mad abt my state school tho
since im premed
oh wait if youre premed just go wherever gives you the most money haha
yeah its ut austin
but its like everyone is going 😭
LMAO dude i tryharded my loci so hard
i talked abt march madness
apprec have u registered for blue devil day

im a big ah basketball fan
so i rly fit w the cutlure
culture
LMAOO
dude i had to register for UT orientation and like
its $300
i feel bad for oos kids
300 + 200 enrollment deposit + 300 housing deposit + 100 to apply for housing
fingers crossed for you
bruh will i even fit in ik like nothing about basketball
duke
It's an easy sport to pick up, also helps when the team wins 30+ games every year
yall chill u can easily be immersed in the culture + ultimately the academics more important 😭
The culture is getting hammered at shooters for $10 drinks
camp outside to buy tickets
Don't forget u have to study for a quiz just to have the right to tent
krzyzewskiville
LMAOO might as well take the quiz in the tent
My tour guide said questions have asked for the exact time of birth of a player, and also a player's girlfriend's CPR certification date
entire class gonna be in the tents
Insane people
yo what
on tests?
Cameron Crazies for a reason
Yep
frl
what school
ah
gng ur chilling ut is a great school 😭 im grinding to get into it rn
ur also in a bubble, my school had like 5 kids accepted to ut out of around 90
this is notably very true
tenting is a very serious culture at duke and you genuinely need to study for it
it's a great bonding experience though from what ive heard just pray the weather shows you more mercy compared to this year
Also heads up but if ur here for bdd and are getting smth from Wu
Pls pls pls put dishes back in the dish drop and tell the ppl you’re with to do the same; sadly there’s been a lot of dishes just let randomly around mobile order places that make it a pain for workers and everyone else
💔💔💔💔
anyone here got the ab scholarship
I know this is late response, but if you want a personal campus tour duing o-week give or take a couple of days...I am offering
im sure me and a few other students with similar circumstances would love to !!
when does waitlist movement start
last year it went until like 2 weeks before people were moving in to other colleges
so don’t expect anything set in stone
are waitlist acceptances typically in waves?
Apparently they started waitlist movement on the 28th of last year
I assume that's the only thing you need to do
u shouldn't do anything else
they tell you specifically to not email the admission directors
everything goes through the portal
does anyone have a link for a duke server
is anyone considering dku idk i might commit there
waiting for nyu aid appeal but
realistically speaking prob not worth it
and dku grad outcome seems kinda goated
yo ive seen that duke waitlist historically starts moving at ~april 28th
any chance for a wave soon
hopefully we will hear back tmr
you should ❤️
🥀 i hate u
has it started
I haven't heard of anything
Dku is a great school if you want to apply to grad school
I sent my loci a few days ago so it might be for the better that first wave is later than usual 😭
What is the chance that DKU just gets people off the waitlist based on how much they can pay?
They prolly do this ngl
wait so the duke waitlist is confirmed going to start later?
nothing has been confirmed
no confirmation only thing we can do is wait and pray
waitlist acceptances are very rng too
when did movement start last year? i thought i saw one on the 28th but someone is telling me last year it started on 4/30
Ye 4/30 last yr and 4/28 the year before
duke waitlist jumpscare lmfao
did everyoen get an email a few days after submitting their loci asking if they remained interested?
or did anyone get anything just now
Yo I didn’t get this yet
Am I cooked
Some on Reddit got it tho
i got one for vandy like yesterday
yeah the vandy one i knew was mass sent
ya
but duke one ive seen in the past is not mass sent
yeah maybe
ive been mentally played with this admissions cycle so im gonna treat it like a neutral signal
u only submitted loci through portal right @fallow grove
LMAO yeah
this cycle has been so goofy
very recently like last Sunday
o interesting
hopefully u get off
i havent gotten one maybe they havent reviewed yet idk
this prob is to make sure u haven’t gotten off the waitlist somewhere ud pick over duke, so good sign!!
my current option is ut csb which I love for my goals
ut is also my only option rn
but Duke is Duke lmao
is csb better than turing
reddit has several like people who have gotten this and then get in the next day but i don’t want to condone any astro about waitlists 😭 😭
wait
bet
oh u should not post this
mb
full name and email 😭 😭
LMAO anecdotal evidence
lmaooo
absolutely for sure
i can’t lie portal astro i used was true
im fr a waitlist warrior
last year ik someone who got off in august
DAMN thats late
for which school
he helped me with my duke loci lmaooo
WW
penn
my financial aid portal for penn had updated dates when penn last edited each file i uploaded or something and everything has a march date when it used to be a january date like a week before i got in
wait @fallow grove do u live in tx
OH thats cool lmao
ya i think a lot of astro is through financial aid portal
not those bs links
i got the brown idoc and got in too
no im oos
so the costs would be 70k vs 95k
oh shoot 😭
if i was in state texas i would prob take csb over duke
no turing is honestly better than csb
the business degree doesnt really help for technical roles imo
should I fill this out for duke waitlist or nah
just gives u more flexibility to go into high finance down the line
i put UT Austin for this lol
shoot should I fill it out or nah
i dont think it really does much based on what my waitlist admit friend said
he said it was for data collection purposes
wait yo @bleak oasis r u pratt or trinity
cuz the waitlists are managed seperately so maybe this email was only sent to pratt kids
trinity
neuroscience major
ohhh wait this is factual
ur pratt right
bro I keep going back to the waitlist form and getting scared I messed up even though it says submitted 3/31/2026 ☠️
ah I see I'll prolly leave it blank then
yeah this whole process feels so delicate
like im going to mess something up and break everything
yeah, and i assume pratt waitlist is much smaller since the school is smaller
so maybe only pratt people got it
im thinking abt literally sending an additional email of interest ☠️ but nah itll prolly annoy tthem
i dont remember what their policy is
but i vaguely remember them saying not to
just this and columbia for ones id take over csb
i opted into mich and berkeley because they didnt require a LOCI
i also got wl from cornell, vandy, rice, ucla
just wondering did you submit this form before you got the email
yeah i did this form a while ago
well ya he had to
i keep going back to that form lmfao
the form that the email sent me to was very different
ima close ts
what it say
Please update your waiting list interest below.
Yes
No
o dang thats cool but ya duke and columbia r prolly the main ones
wbu
I didn't get anything
for me i mostly care abt penn, duke, jhu, and washu
r u pratt?
i also got wl from vandy and rice
i got rejected from penna and jhu lol
got into washu
yes
oh ok bet
DAMN bro i wanted to get washu 😭
that disproves that theory
oh shi
yeah idk i was just a waitlist warrior
wait chill im not going there so their yield gonna go down by 0.0001%
rejected HYPS and then waitlist everywhere else
LMAO thank u
yeah same story with me
washu the only t20 i got into
yeah ive heard its amazing for that
i got in for Business+CS which its ok for
like its business school is nice but its not rlly that good for cs
jammy are you also pratt
yeah
ik 2 ppl in my city who got in trinity who are withdrawing duke
does that help me or nah
😭
yeah dukes yield rate is pretty low for a t10
idts idk
i dont wanna spread misinformation cuz im not an AO myself
lmk if u get off waitlist tho @fallow grove
yeah for sure
im mentally committed to csb tho so that would be a crazy next 5 days if i get off
just deciding what to do
it depends on the school but i think the norm is 5 business days
istg if duke was just hopebaiting me ima lose it
Nah they aren’t lmfao
I hope not
Cuz literally not everyone got this
oh wait u were that one person on reddit I saw @fallow grove
LMAO
haha
yeah
also yo i just searched it up its only 24-48 hours to decide
wtf
wait someone else just made a post on it too
yeah i think its 2 days LMAO
start talking to ur parents now
thats insane bruh
nah i dont want to get them excited over whats possibly nothing
can you send?
Alr wait
thanks
Every uni does this “re-confirmation” thing?
Not everyone received one for Duke
Only very few
bro i cannot focus on finals anymore knowing the waitlist emails started coming 😭
I mean where I live high school ends in December
do these emails only come in the evening?
bruh
I think they do only come in the evening
do offers usually come a day after the reconfirmation of interest email
yeah itll be in the evening
Wowwww congrats
will more offers be made today/tomorrow? or will they come out after may 1st
YOO
Congrats!!!!!
congrats!!
is today not april 30 😭
wait what the hell wednesday may 1 😭
yeah they gave an updated letter just now
7 days
good luck!
CONGRAULATIONS!!!
Committed?
not yet, im currently deciding between ut csb and duke
i have 7 days from today to decide, most likely will finalize a decision by end of weekend
how many ppl online did u see also get off who got the email yesterday? @fallow grove
i didnt really look but i think if u got an email yesterday very good chance u got off the waitlist today
wait yo what confuses me is that duke prescreens for interviews afaik right
i got no interview, and mustve been pretty high up in the waitlist if i got off first wave
idk why they didnt give me an interview if i was truly borderline
Lmao I didn’t get an interview either
The process changed this year
They stopped doing that priory deadline and interviews seemed to not matter as much
Maybe lack of alum willing to interview contributed who knows
@fallow grove did you do anyhting other than send in a loci?
Nope just the loci
me too, it’s interesting considering how big of a fuss people made it 😭
the two other kids who got an interview at my school both got rejected in the ED round so
i was deferred
ya i got an interview but got hit with a waitlist
yield prot
when did u send it
duke
Sunday
Interview = rejection astro confirmed?
ok yk WHAT
I got an interview
congrats on picking yalw !
thank youuu :)
anyone know when the second wave might come out 🥹
Next week sometime I’d assume
how much did the odds go down for folks who didnt get the first wave
and what proportion of their remaining spots is probably gonna be taken now
Unanswerable question it varies from year to year
hi does anyone have any advice for incoming freshman students, specifically bme majors on what to do on campus/stuff to sign up for?
i lowkey chose duke over another school that was ranked a bit higher and i just want like some more insight on liek duke's resources 😭
vro said ranked higher that's like 6 schools
I have a friend that might be willing to help. I'll have to ask her first thi.
okay thank you so much
i got into duke ed but they didnt give me enough aid so i got like this non-binding offer where i got to choose between mit ea w/ aid and duke w/o aid (they eventually gave me full-ride aid though merit)
thanks :))
did u get ab / bn?
nope i dont know if i got merit 100% or they just fixed my need-based aid in the second time
they just emailed me saying my financial letter was adjusted
there was a second wave of acceptances today right? when does duke usually stop accepting people off the waitlists? 🥲
they accepted ppl 2 weeks before school started last year
oh wow 🙀
in august is wild
fr 😭😭
do most of the offers go out in may tho? i understand if it’s only a few in august js to fill the class but nonetheless still kinda crazy 🥲
wait you got in right??
congrats!
Most in may yeah
I think the later ones are rare
oh that’s good but it’s still stressful having to wait 😞
She said yes. Shoot me a dm and I'll send you her email
Hey! I was just offered a second duke interview after getting rejected. Is this normal? It was the same interviewer and she sent it today
That's strange what did it say in the email
I’ll dm you
Cause it’s got her info and i’m not gonna like doxx
woah this is definitely not normal
could be a good sign
I’m assuming this is an error, I did email and ask her to clarify, but if it’s not an error then who knows
Apparently she does know i was rejected she’s aware i didn’t get in
and she didn’t copy and paste the same email, this email was much longer and had way more detail about the interview
hmm they made a mistake rejecting u hopefully 🙏 but yeah that is like unheard of
I’m already committed to another school though
And it’s an alumni interview if they made a mistake i feel like it would’ve been someone else
yeah thats interesting if it was sorta a personalized email thats strange
Everyone told me assume it’s an error but if it’s somehow a legit email and she actually moves forward with an interview i feel like it can’t be bad
cuz she knew u didnt get in 😭
This email was WAY more detailed than the first one she gave
the first one was a paragraph this one was like a damn essay of instructions
even mentioned not having to send my transcript and shit
lol wtf i doubt theyd offer interviews this late into the cycle too
RIGHT
like no interviews r given out even at this time to anyone
Like RD released in march bruh its may
fr and next years decisions are a long way ahead
The email was worded to “give more info about duke” why would i need that if im already rejected
The interview will last 30-40 minutes and will be conducted virtually or by phone. The interview is not a mandatory part of your Duke application. However, it is an opportunity for Duke to learn more about you and for you to learn more about Duke.
As an alumni interviewer, I do not have access to your application, and you do not need to provide me with your resume or transcript. Through our conversation, I hope to learn about your interests and activities. I also look forward to answering your questions about Duke.
She already knows about my interests and activities
We already had an interview
Same lady
Same email
Same everything
wait but shes aware of ur rejection right
YES
She knows my friend and my friend when i told her abt my interview (cause the interviewer ghosted me the first time) i sent her the email and turns out SHE KNEW MT INTERVIEWER
and so ig they chatted and ig my interviewer told my friend (my friend is in college) that i didn’t get into duke
This will be my third time having a scheduled duke interview if this follows through
Isn’t that crazy
yeah that is CRAZYY
The most neutral sign i’ve ever seen
dude this all like points toward u maybe getting a second shot at admission who knows
but also like
I even went to re-check my admission portal
it could be a mistake
99% certain it is
lmao im doing this consistently for waitlists
It still says rejection.
but its all through email
ya its prolly a mistake but we can only pray
But this is definitely funny for sure
Might be an original experience cause my teacher who’s been accepted into every single ivy at some point said he’s never heard of someone getting 2 duke interviews and one being in may
LMAOO thats certaintly a story to tell
3rd times the charm.. maybe…
a kid at my school did i think
no no it was yale
he got into harvard yale brown penn and columbia
DAMN
full rides to all
yeah that girl is going to brown plme
sorry not my schooo my school district
full tuition
so many cracked kids
let me send y the dm
Funny enough, I know that girl. She's really sweet.
Aw how is she holding up
I kinda feel bad
Ngl
GOT ACCEPTED FROM THE WAITLIST TO DUKE KUNSHAN 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Did Duke waitlist already come out?
Any updates?
how does ur aid look?
no response!
Going to transfer and accept an offer at palantir 🗣️🔥
is it worth doing focus for any duke students here rn
im doing my app and tbh theres only one (maybe two) clusters im interested in
Imo, you might as well get a half credit out of the dinner
But whether or not it is worth it really depends on what cluster you get into
if any of yall are premed or bme majors and have questions about scheduling, hmu
blue devils
Ah yeah I’m trinity so Im required to do either focus or const
But the focus apps r so long 😭
It's a weeding out mechanism
