alr this is specific but i think they want to see that you are extremely good at something but use that talent/skill for the benefit of humanity. making sure whatever you build is accessible or not. for example i did research and shared the tool i created to teachers. most research papers do not release code or are stuck in github repos. i made sure that it had a frontend and ppl can actually use it. while doing the research i did not build a frontend for this hidden value. i was writing one of my supps, and a friend of mine (current stanford student who viewed his file and knows ppl who did too), mentioned this hidden value. obviously you shouldn’t go out of your way to mention this value over IV. but if you can it will make you stand out

a lot of my supps did relate to my major. but i did not make them nerdy, each showed a new side. also if they were nerdy, i think i was fine since i come from a rural area with no cs grinders or t20 grinders. for the last supp (i assume you are talking about the “unique contribution”), i did name drop specific things. remember they wanna see your contribution so in my conclusion i explained how ill use my ideology to improve work at this lab and push forward the mission of a specific stanford venture

ik this may not be the answer you're looking for, but i highly encourage you to take the interview. when i got an interview request back in nov, i was seriously considering not taking up the interview offer for the reasons you've listed. i'm a HUGE introvert and conversation/charisma isn't my strong suit. i decided to go for it and the interview went great.

in regards to your second question, the interview isn't weighted too heavily. i've heard of people getting into stanford with horrible interviews, and vice versa.

i think some of the questions were:

• give me an intro about yourself
• they asked me more about how i started something/what im interested in specifically about something that i mentioned in my intro
• asked me about a challenge ive faced and what i did to overcome it (also conveniently answered the question of what leadership i had in that experience)
• other introduction specific questions
• lastly, why stanford

from what i saw the most important part is how you introduce yourself, bc those r the topics that will be touched upon. so choose what you want to say in the beginning wisely
