For engineering. I’m heavily emphasizing collaborative/non-competitive culture but from what I’ve heard Cornell can be pretty cutthroat esp given the school size could u give info on this

Like MIT and CMU for example it’s kinda part of the culture that everyone suffers together, but that also means they’re super collaborative

To get admitted to a major, you have to complete the affiliation courses with above the minimum grade that they want, which is usually about a C

Honestly, you were fair in your belief. Some colleges do have a possibility of you getting denied your major.

It’s just when people say it doesn’t admit by major. It means you can go any route. It doesn’t mean you’re locked out of anything.

I will mention internal transfer to the engineering college is harder than internal transfer to arts and sciences

Just know at Cornell, you can’t double major across colleges so like you can’t major in engineering computer science, and have a double major in arts and science’s math

I'm a rising senior applying as an econ/finance major and am heavily considering ED to Cornell Dyson. I've been scouring the internet and honestly haven't been able to find too much info on the school, so I was wondering if someone could provide some insights on the following:

• Class Size (I've heard ~200)
• How many are admitted through ED (+ do they like to defer)
• Culture at Dyson: I've heard its very collaborative which is why I'm leaning Dyson more than schools like Ross and Stern for ED - would love to hear people's personal experience?
• Is ED Dyson strategically a good idea? Compared to the ED yield at places like Ross and Stern? Since I want to shoot my shot with the ED but at the same time I don't want to throw my ED away

This is a really unstructured post (honestly reflects my headspace rn) but would love to hear ANY thoughts from someone who has gone through this process or is currently going through it.

Ik it’s a very small sample but from the schools I’ve seen we aren’t typically too far off if we’re going by proportions over raw numbers

Like we have higher than average raw acceptance rates but if you look at UChicago for example which is notorious for being heavy on ED acceptances you can see that drop present

CoE has one of the lowest acceptance rates at Cornell. But applying to Cas or CoE won't have much of an impact. Both are very competitive schools.

if you want to do some sort of stem field thats in engineering or CAS id apply to a more niche program in cals or humec if ur extracurriculars align with it

since those two schools are easier to get into while cas and engineering have lower acceptance rates

and you can do an internal transfer after your freshman year, which is relatively easy to do (ESPECIALLY transferring into CAS)

plus you might be able to get out of certain distribution requirements that might otherwise be annoying to complete
