Schools: The Ohio state university and Purdue
Intended major: Genetics
Similarities: Similar weather, both are large public universities, both have good research and networking opportunities.
The Ohio state university
School 1 Pros:
- Dorms and food seem pretty good
- I like the location
- Campus culture seems pretty chill
- Ranked #37 for biological sciences (couldn't find the ranking for genetics)
- Guaranteed housing for 2 years
- My HL IB credits transfer so i can skip 3 courses (not sure if that's a significant pro)
School 1 Cons:
- Very large campus, doesn't seem very walkable.
- OOS student so i'm not guaranteed the same tuition for all 4 years
- Seems to have a large party scene (i'm not big on that atm)
- High crime rate
Purdue
School 2 Pros:
- Academics seem to be top tier
- Campus seems rlly nice and walkable
- Cost remains constant
- Food seems to be pretty good
- From what I've heard the campus culture seems rlly nice and ik some people who study there.
School 2 Cons:
- Didn't like the dorms and not guaranteed housing after freshman year.
- Heard its comparatively more academically rigorous/grade deflation from day 1 compared to other universities.
- West Lafayette seems kinda boring.
- Heard that health related resources are bad (i think that's in all public unis though? Not sure)
Tiebreaking considerations: Overall campus culture/friendliness, academic resources, international student related stuff
