Intended major: CS everywhere
Similarities: All pretty good at CS, but a few stand out

Northeastern
School 1 Pros:

  • I feel like it's more known than the other ones, and seems to have more overall prestige
  • Co-ops are cool

School 1 Cons:

  • Low US news ranking for CS
  • Expensive asf (even though price isn't really an issue, I'd still slightly prefer looking into the price)

UW-Madison
School 2 Pros:

  • Good CS program (t15 for CS)
  • campus looks nice
  • Good work-life balance

School 2 Cons:

  • Doesn't have as good of a reputation (still regarded as good in the CS world though im assuming)
-kinda cold (but doesn't bother me that much)

UMD
School 3 Pros:

  • Good CS program (t15 for CS) also but idk how it compares with the other schools
  • heard it has a lot of FAANG+ prospects

School 3 Cons:
-Heard it's a dead school socially

  • Has a good CS rep, but overall not really known as prestigious

UMass- Amherst + Honors College
School 4 Pros:
-#1 food

  • I got $18k a year so it'll be much cheaper

School 4 Cons:

  • not as highly ranked

Tiebreaking considerations:

  • I just want a place that has the best name/job prospects in the CS market because currently the job market is cooked

to me, all 4 are similar in ranking/prestige so won't be a deciding factor.

If job is your #1 factor, then research into NEU co-op program.

#

personally, I like UMD for its location

i'd say UMD. imo it's not socially dead & it's pretty prestigious overall

Rankings should not be the bread and butter for going somewhere but I’d say Umd or madison. For umd I can say that the community is AMAZING and there will be very helpful faculty in CS. It is also near DC so easy to get silicon type stuff then again it is VERY COMPETITIVE for internships and stuff but if u say ur from UMD many companies there will know. I would not say it is a dead school but I may be biased since I’m from md 🫡

If you can visit please do

And the cs is very prestigious for a public school

Only 600 seats this yr

if you only care about name and job opportunities, i'd go northeastern. its probably the most recognized of the 4 and i heard boston is a good place to be for internships.

but it might be good to do more research and have other preferences before committing smile
