Location/Region: Can be anywhere in U.S. I live in TN though.
-
Major: Electrical/Computer Engineering
-
GPA/Test Scores: 4.0 UW, 36 ACT,
-
Curriculum: 15 APs total; Notable Ones: Physics C Mech and E&M, Physics 1, Chemistry, Biology, Calculus BC, 4-year engineering student
-
Size: How large do you want your college/class sizes? N/A, idrc lol
-
Costs: Lowkey I dont got money like that. Has to have really good aid. This is the biggest factor for me. I can handle just abt anything as long as I can afford it.
-
Schools You're Currently Looking At: I applied to Princeton REA. I am looking at UTK and Umich though. I am not sure if I can go for ivies and ivy+ but if so my dream would def be MIT
-
Additional: I would really like there to be some sort of service outlet for refugees. I want to be able to tell my story and find others like me from Venezuela. I want to give back.
-
Be Detailed! I really want to go to school in the Northeast; I really want to go skiing for the first time (kind of dumb but oh well). Also I love cold climates, would hate to go to a school where its really hot like Texas but education is paramount for me I can live with bad weather if its the only option

sorry, first time here, did it though
wait so is it quant or ee or ce?
Given you're OOS for Michigan and low income, you likely won't get the best aid from them as they're a public university OOS
Remember to do the Net Price Calculator for each college you look into
ngl this looks like the perfect profile to shoot your shot at top privates and see what happens, story has to be really good
With that said, in Tennessee, of course look into UTK and Vanderbilt
Outside of Tennessee, look into Stanford, Cornell, Caltech, Duke, UChicago
For quantum computing, majors like physics, electrical engineering, and computer engineering are all valid for it
But do remember quantum computing is a graduate school level type of study, so your undergrad can be wherever
off topic but is pure math not valid too
It's not the best path but it is possible
Really, the best path is to major in EE/CE and do a double major or minor in physics
CS works too
Do they care abt background tho? Like I hear abt holistic admissions stuf but surely that can’t be that helpful I thoight it was just as a way to justify whatever decision they end up making
yes lol. when everyone is as good as it gets academically, they reserve spots in their cohort for unique situation students like you
Quant isn’t an undergrad major, looking to get into EE or CE (lowk undecided but leaning to CE)
Lol surely the comp even with refugees is super fierce though?
UChicago app is nefarious lol, but im surprised by this one, wha at Uchicago specificallly calls ur attention for this field
They have a very reputable and excellent quantum engineering and computing program for their master's and Ph.D. and have been one of the bigger colleges making great progress in the quantum field.

This reddit post goes to show one of the better things they've progressed in quantum research
That said, if you wanna keep an engineering undergrad background, I would keep them off
Unless you're okay with their molecular engineering program
dang ur rlly knowledgeable on this, r u also interested in a field like this or adjacent?
or have u just like seen a lot of college stuff
are you trying to go into experimental or theorhetical quantum
pretty different backgrounds
experimental, I want to work on developing new qubits particularly trapped ion but i am also looking into the optics side of things
but like building them (engineering side) if that makes sense
Hmmm yea then mainly schools with good ECE programs minus a few I’ve heard hella complaints from
Like my friend at cmu doing QC stuff so I asked him how cmu is for it and he said it’s p mid/ they don’t rly invest into it
My state school (uiuc) is rly good for quantum computing but it’s 60k a year oos
Uchicago got hella good experimental stuff but I prob wouldn’t apply since 1. They don’t have an engineering program besides molecular engineering and 2. Like 90% of people who get in apply early decision
Given ur unique background I think u would be a good candidate for ur ivy, def apply Yale Harvard etc for quantum experimental stuff (I REAd to Yale as a cs&math major and talked a lot about their qc research since they have so much about it and funding towards it)
yeah... i donty think uchicago is the move for udnergrad in my case lowk but their program does look really good
