Location/Region: California/Large Public School

Major: Comp Sci

GPA/Test Scores: GPA: 3.4 UW/3.8W (10APs, 3 Honors, 1 DE) 1500 SAT (1520+ prolly after I get my score this friday)

Curriculum: doesnt matter

Size: doesnt really matter

Costs: prefer need-blind schools (applying for aid)

Schools You're Currently Looking At: UNC, USC, UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UPENN (ED), RICE, Stanford (my schools a feeder for stanford), UDub, UIUC, Purdue, Gtech, CMU, Northwestern, Hopkins, Duke, Columbia

Additional: survived cancer in middle school (essay on my journey), had severe anemia frosh and junior year due to blood disorder. I think my essay on my cancer journey can secure me one of the schools above. Am I delusional? Pls help.

UDub, UIUC, Purdue, do not give good aid as they are public universities and you're OOS for them.

Georgia Tech is technically the same but they're one of the few public universities that give decent aid to OOS students, just not as good as, say, top privates

#

Look into applying for CSUs

We don't know if you're cooked. Your cancer story will be understanding and be taken into context. However, your GPA will not be ignored.

Cancer and illness will be considered as an extenuating circumstance if it continued to affect your high school academics and life but it’s not an auto admit as you seem to imply

#

3.4 is quite low for the schools you’re looking at as a cs major. You’re in the bottom 4% of Penn’s admitted GPA and your SAT is still under the 25th percentile (25th-75th is 1510-1560 so even a 1520 would be on the lower end) per last year’s stats which excludes how cs is going to be skewed even higher up

#

Usually 3.7+ is what I hear at minimum and even then there’s debate around that

#

TL;DR: While I hope the outcome goes as you hope, don’t bet on it when you’re decently below the average applicant for a solid number of your schools. I also don’t see a shrivel of a safety on your list which even if you were a top tier applicant I’d recommend getting a move on now, especially those with rolling admissions

forgot to mention but riverside is my safety

ur stats are actually very competitive considering the context you are coming from, but, again, some of the schools are quite competitive

#

id definitely reccomend still applying though

Your gpa is also well below for them

#

So its def not a safety

#

Riverside specific comment

#

If you’re content with the California community college system which is honestly a pretty good system then technically any college list will do, the big issue there tho is the lack of TAG for cs majors

delicate gulch
#

UC GPA is only soph and junior grades

#

freshmen year was a struggle for me

#

also i’d say my EC’s are a 9/10 just my gpa on the lower end

#

but if all goes wrong i have my local cc
