Looking for safeties (acceptance for int'l >30%) that are generous with financial aid.

  • Location/Region: I'm an int'l so anything really. My family is more inclined towards major cities near CA or NY, but not a requirement at all.

  • Major: Computer Science with an Engineering minor or vice versa. Flexible.

  • GPA/Test Scores: 4.5/5 weighted (tho this one really hurts, I got best possible marks for everything and my school still decided to give me a 4.5), 1550 SAT, 8 IELTS. Have a silver and a bronze in the International Olympiad in Informatics.

  • Curriculum: Need to have a rigorous CS or Engineering department. Community-wise nothing too specific, tho I would be happy if they had some kind of a speedcubing community.

  • Size: Want the student-to-faculty ratio to be small. No requirements in the overall size of the program.

  • Costs: I am going to need aid. Budget is around 25k per year. (Is this more or less than an average int'l student?)

  • Schools You're Currently Looking At: Harvey Mudd, University of Miami, University of Notre Dame

  • Additional: Safety is an important aspect to consider, particularly the crime rate of the neighborhood. That's one reason i don't want to go to WashU. Also, I want the region to have a night life. For example, I know that is lacking in Harvard.

As someone who lives roughly 20 minutes away from Harvey Mudd who has a parent who used to teach there, and I work with harvey mudd students for cs stuff, I can tell you for your major it is a very good fit, the community is pretty solid and its integrated into a the city quite well as there. Night life is prolly a 5/10, not great like any clubs but great for grabbing some friends to grab a bite at night. Campus is pretty, lot of international groups during the summer, idk about during the year. Studrnt faculty ratio is relatively small. Not in a major city but a nice one, and im sure u csn find/found a speedcubing community there most likely. The neighborhood is nice as well as the city. Idk anything about financials sorry.
