you were rejected MIT EA?
That’s wild
Legacy makes sense ig
But GT is never hard target(always reach)
Prolly some red flag that wasn’t present for gt
Hopefully your RD works out
wishing you all the best brother. hoping youll make it out man 🫶
Nah but deferred pretty much = rejection
Lets pray that rd’s good on all of us 🙏
I mean yeah sure dude but it’s MIT
Nothing to cry about at all
Yeah bro like most of my rd decisions come out within 3 days of each other
Besides stevens
Do you think that’s also true for ce/cs?
I really don't know. I know U of I is a strong option for CS, that's it
Me personally
If you have UIUC or something
Not sure if mich is worth that much over it
I’m still deciding myself
I wouldn't risk it
200k+ debt for an undergrad degree is insane
I understand the career you want to consider, but putting yourself in that position would limit yourself in so many choices, financially and not.
@ripe temple r u in engineering
Yes
how has your michigan experience been socially
Great
is the engineering workload not too insanely heavy
It's how you manage it and the classes you take, but the engineering workload is usually a lot.
would you take any other school over ur experience at mich given u could go back
I mean I like where I am so no not really. I'd imagine the same could be said for other people that go to other schools.
Computer Engineering
perfect
i assume u have alrdy done ur internships and stuff
i really want mich and am just sorting out the financials but i plan on going into a tech adjacent role
do you know of any nonengineering majors i could take up at a uni of similar caliber that might get me into the same position/field
What tech adjacent role are you looking into?
I mean, there's just so many
Yeah...that kind of field is pretty much a must for you to do EE or CE
Or to have the experience for such
Why consider a non engineering major for that career?
mich is very expensive but i want the opportunities that the brand name will give me in business/tech roles
i got a full ride to unc but they unfortunately have a very weak engineering program
The career of microelectronics and many engineering careers is not solely dependent on the strength and reputation of a engineering university
Plenty of great engineers come from not so reputable colleges
Me, personally, it would make better sense to go for the full ride UNC, or go for NCSU
Affordability is key here. As great as Michigan is, our brand name, like many other universities, is not worth to put yourself at great financial risk
It's also important that UNC's EE or CE program is ABET-Accredited
im not only interested in microelectronics though. if im being honest it was the first thing that came to mind. i just really want to study engineering and want to start off w ~80-90k which michigan nearly promises
Michigan doesn't promise that salary. Salary data varies a lot from multiple factors, such as location, low sample size, and more. We show that we have those salaries, and a great amount do, but salary data is not something to look into as they vary from multiple factors to consider
You also gotta remember plenty of others from not so well known engineering schools get similar salary ranges
Unfortunately didn’t get uiuc or Purdue but got into Michigan cs, but yeah hard decision to make
As said, most engineering roles are not school brand-related heavy. It's all about the work experience you gain, as well as the connections you have (which Michigan has an advantage of for sure, but so do plenty of other colleges).
I do not recommend anyone getting into 200k debt for any undergrad degree
As good as our CS program is, no school is worth 200k debt to go for
the closest to engineering I can get at UNC is studying math/physics, which is why im hesitant to commit to UNC. i really want engineering, and a college experience to pair with it. believe me, im extremely mindful of graduating w debt and will not levy a burden like that on my parents. im in the midst of figuring out how to appeal my aid offer so i can make mich work.
most of what im doing now is researching the career paths ill lose out on if i dont invest in a michigan engineering education
Is there no other engineering school? I'm assuming you're from NC so why not NCSU?
im from ny
Oh same. Buffalo? Stony Brook? Binghamton? City College?
im immature and cant bring myself to stay instate
😭
are you from michigan
sorry i dont want to be too invasive
No I'm from NYC. And, unfortunately, there comes a time where you need to make the choice and limit your wants
When it comes to affordability, unfortunately some wants are not as achievable.
With Michigan aid, unfortunately given you're OOS, appealing doesn't work as well.
I got lucky enough to go to Michigan for free through scholarships, but I'm one of the lucky few.
so as far as computer engineering, what field are you hoping to enter
Embedded Systems but tbh I'm still undecided
no chance of a math major breaking in?
There's just so much stuff in the electronics field that is essentially must for you to have a EE or CE degree. Maybe physics but even that's difficult
If you're doing math, you can maybe look into more cs-related fields.
oh also since we’re having this convo it might be appropriate to ask: if i pursue math or physics will i likely have to go to grad school
ive been setting myself up for an undergraduate engineering degree so im clueless when it comes to career paths in math
I honestly have no clue. You'd probably have to ask this somewhere else
i see
well thanku for all ur help
i will most likely be directing my michigan-related questions to you over the next few months in this chat 🙏
No purdue but into michigan? Wild
Yeah because I heard Michigan was harder to get into for cs than Purdue, was surprising for sure
I got deferred though not full out rejected so I’m hoping it comes through as a yes eventually
are u bay area
I feel like purdue defers a lot of bay area cs applicants
Nope east coast
Maybe essays weren’t good? Although I felt like my Purdue ones were better than Michigan tbh
don't sweat it
you'll prolly get in rd
Thanks! Hoping so, seems like really good value
i need umich ross
did you get deferred
I need GT lmao
defer accept pipeline trust
yes and got accepted to uva oos
only got rejected from uchi nyu stern and ut austin
Me (I go there)
Me
How do i withdraw my application
go to ur portal, press view on ur application, scroll down to the button that says withdraw ur application
Yes thank you for your service
Giving us deferred/RD folks some hope
There’s no difference I can make anyways
They already deactivated my application and changed it to a transfer application so im js tryna withdraw that one
Nah cus they require me to have transferrable credits and the university i was in has a foundation year as your first year meaning none of the courses are transferable
I tried explaining my situation but they hit me with the “sounds like a you problem”
Ouch that sucks
I mean i got into a T30 that was my only concern I don’t really have a “dream” school I literally did my research a day before the application ended
Everyone.
okay thanks!
preferred admission to ross update for anyone?
fridays at 5pm only
Was this sent out for other majors beside ROSS?
Or just ROSS applicants
yes they send it to all RD
they send also for LSA
at michigan can you apply for in state housing cost after attending there for a year?
In state housing cost?
They're usually the same whether it's in state or OOS
oh what
i thought it was cheaper
oops
so is everything the same cost whether you’re an instate/OOS
No, tuition and fees are way more OOS
so after a year of going to mich, would i be considered for the instate costs
Nope
lol if it were that easy most ppl would somehow bare the first year cost and attend
in literally any uni
oh i thought it was like that cusmy friend whos going to GSU said that he could do that for his housing
so i was wondeirng if it was the same for mich
There's different rules for colleges and states in determining in state tuition. I suggest researching "[college name] residency eligibility" to see more on these residency rules these state colleges have. But for the vast majority, and quite a vast amount, doing what you thought of wouldn't work out, including Michigan.
Does anyone know when RD's expected to come out?
Most likely March 31st
But they stated late March
Dang really making us wait 😭😭
Mhm, that's what happens when you have an extreme amount of applications
I love how a 5 minute difference in the submission time ended up pushing back my result by almost a quarter of a year 😓
If that's what happened to you, then that's unfortunate but that's how life goes as well.
(My own dumb fault, still funny tho)
Oh yeah! I'm not upset about it, just laughing at myself
I wouldn't worry about it tbh. Thankfully Michigan doesn't give any advantage with EA (unless Ross maybe idk). Only disadvantage is you might not get potential scholarships you could've gotten if you applied EA
Ooh got it thank you!
Do you know if RD students are still considered for honors?
Uh idk but I'd assume so. I would still check though
If they don't explicitly say that, then there's your answer
Got it, thank you!
How cooked am I if I haven’t done to loci yet if I was deferred
Is it fine if i submit it close to the deadline
no engineering
"ross preferred admission is coming out early-mid feburay" such liars 🤦♂️
im also engineering
Do you know when it comes out
well it only comes out fridays at 5pm est
but who knows what friday thatll be
atp😭
rd results came put
my friend said he got rejected
is it true?
or am i tripping cuz my other friend still has to write his loci
yes
ah okay
i think ur tripping bro
i have no RD result
and im still writing my loci
Lmao same
😭
sup
Proof?
No shot they send out decisions this early
its def cap
has to be what
bro
yea thats true
he probably got rejected EA
i thought they deferred everyone
he applied rd
Maybe he withdrew
how does he have a decision
yeah that's likely
messaged him let’s see
ya cuz i havent even submitted my loci
umich is gonna think i’m crazy after they realize i aint sending a loci 💀
where did u get in
they prob would think u got into a better school
and don’t want them
so reject u
it doesn’t matter
well lowkey
Lol i lost interest in umich after seeing oos tuition. If they were gonna give me a merit scholarship they would have accepted during ea itself ig
Atp i wanna see the decision just for my own satisfaction
ya umich does not do that 😭
UMich sometimes puts out ea decisions in waves
Deferred EA I mean
So it's possible they got a result
But most people won't get one
Until end of March
ooh what major are you
i was an smtd applicant last year
i applied to LSA but i know someone who got into SMTD and is gonna play trumpet
yea smtd doesn’t follow a normal release schedule bc they don’t have EA and there’s several app stages
early april
they let you write ur apps till the first of february
😭😭
that’s more than generous
no not that
early april
😭
they should push it forward bruh
no but that’s my point
how are they going to effectively look at applicants
if they’re due in march
that’s two months only
most schools need 3-4
arghhgghg
Maybe a bigger team!
"by [this date]" rarely actually means decisions will come out on said date
itll likely come out late march
remember dont come to umihc
fr
withdraw ur app
mid ass college in the mid ass west anyways
why 🙏 please enlighten
its my top choice rn
this guy is gatekeeping
ur simping for berkeley
berkeley has better weather
better men/women
better money
i need to get into berkeley first
i can vouch for this one specifically
which is 0 chance bc eecs
ty guys
how about majoring in something that involves touching grass?
💀 too late to switch now
i do this
umich is mid
if i had free will i wouldve done either applied math or smthn pre-law
2nd choice major
are you californian
yes
go to uci
umich does not have seaside bakery
abgs ❤️
Thank the lord we don't
seaside bakery is like the new hollywood of gen z
it is the factory of the new culture
i wish we had seaside bakery
but of course everything in michigan produces mid things
No, that shit leads to a huge increase of stereotypical annoying ass Asians that be saying "ABGS ABGS"
we dont get into the haute coutre gen z content creation
We have enough of those bums already
we cannot compete with socal
i want more
Then go to California. Michigan ain't for the ABG culture 💀 💀 . Better yet, there's probably some clubs here that probably do have that
aint u from ny bruh
? You're not from Cali?
hes from ny
no
I am from NYC and even we don't have that disgusting ass ABG shit
Buddy we express ourselves better than to be clones of each other
Unlike a certain group
socal asians are not repressed by a whitewashed environment
Buddy thinks there's only Columbia and NYU 💀 💀
it is truly a renaissance of asian culture down in socal
what
you just hate them cuz you cant be them
stony brook is not relevant
other schools are not relevant
rutgers is kinda relevant but they got no one
that's why i didn't go
Buddy y'all are known as the Asian version of white culture 💀 💀
Like you cannot be talking whitewashed environment
I mean I'm an Asian too so I would know
i would know too
You're not Asian?
im asian
No?
i love to see 3 umich students yapping about college apps like theyre not alr in umich together
self-hating
js graduate atp
????
is it feasible to graduate in 3 years btw
yes
That's the Michigan Culture. We're haters online, lovers irl (I don't know any of these guys)
yippee
You're not Asian. Give up.
pull up to diag right now for a fight
Can't lil bro I got 2 exams tomorrow
We can do Wednesday
why are we the same
i would’ve done that
right now?
you are lucky this is a2c bruh
this is why we are both getting into cmu trust
ok go to fishbowl
ok shush it
Should I get Korean wings, pizza, or Chinese food
none because they all bad in ann arbor
because ann arbor is a shit city
Eh, I like the Korean wings here. There's certainly only one good option that I like compared to NYC having so much
glazed by white people because some people can throw balls
@ripe temple what midterms
EECS 367 and 427
ce majors
You're one to talk 💀 💀
What isn't atp
i have no doppelganger because no one can eat a 12" subway like i do bruh
Yeah cause no one's eating subway nasty ahh 💀 💀
you are from nyc
i dont want to hear it bruh
Yeah we have FOOD
Socal when Food (it's all just noodles)
NYC people when they have rat hair in their food
Socal Asians smh
(its a delicacy)
tacos are more popular lowk
clearly hasnt been to socal
Socal Asians when their food isn't as hot as their wildfires 😡
🔥
socal is where the world's biggest melting pot is
Not really
nyc cant come close to emulating the melting pot of socal buddy
It's definitely #2 though
melting pot but socal just has more baddies
Eh, most of the internet and popular opinion agrees NYC is the melting pot for food
add more of that in the pot
nyc is too busy gentrifying neighborhoods to have REAL culture
nyc please do that
LMAO AINT NO WAY YOU SAYING THAT. LA IS ON THAT SHIT TOO
ad populum fallacy bro
Nah, you just can't accept reality
LA is just #2 in food
nah you are coping
No, electoral college elected the current president
i wonder what id be like if election was based on popular vote tho
take that LIBERAL
if bro really is from california he's cooked
ad populum fallacy haters when ad populum fallacy is real
Electoral college still determines the president.
Fact check that LIBERAL
Also, GOOGLE LITERALLY AGREES
even if it wasnt electric cabbage blud still won
CHECKMATE LIBERAL
my point stands
this is why popular opinion != truth
my heart goes out to all of you
🤓
withdraw your app lil bro
(unless ur instate)
I just yapped
About new awards and stuff
And then talked about a course and a club
But Michigan is kinda low on my list so I didn’t make it crazy
do i need a loci i haven’t done anything crazy in the past 22 days
if you really want to go then i would still send one in, just to let them know you're definitely still interested and would go
An LOCI is just a letter to express any further interests you have for the school and, if you do have the ability to update them on anything major, then awesom, update them about it. If you don't have anything to update, dw about it, just continue to show your continued interest for the school
did you have to write an ECI
No, I got admitted EA 3 years ago so never needed to
Tough
Can highschool seniors potentially get guaranteed spring transfer
Never heard about it so can't say
did everyone get money from umd
I know this is a joke, but genuinely why would anyone ever withdraw an application unless they’re contractually obligated to
It’s literally purely a net negative
so they can open spots for other people 🙏
Ah, ever the altruist
how do you check
It’s in ur email
Basically everyone gets presidents scholarship but the amount varies
is it only for in state students
no I got it oos
does anyone know how to withdraw your application from um flint? i keep getting emails from them on my umich. edu account and i can’t find a link on their website anywhere. i also don’t know where my acceptance letter is so that doesn’t help
Email/call them?
is anyone else's eci form super slow to submit?
could be because it's right before the deadline tho lol
Applications to U-M continue to increase, with a record high of more than 115,000 applications for fall 2025. Learn more about our fall 2025 applicants at the link in our bio. #Victors2029 #GoBlue
1883
115000 😭
Bye umich its been nice having hope 💀
cooked 💀
lol
tomorrow i believe
when does preferred admission come out
Is the LOCI deadline today or tomorrow
today being 28th february
and what time is it due on either day
ok it's tomorrow
don’t come
why whats so bad abt umich
It’s mid
mid weather
Mid west
unless ur a Michigander
Or Alabaman
or like Mississippians
They're a Californian. They didn't understand what cold weather is like. Happens to the worst for Californians.
Lol
if I want to send an update with my second trimester grades do I just upload it as supp material on the portal?
no idea
It means by 11:59pm EST on March 1st
If it says March 1st
Are u sure EST
If it is then I’ll be okay e
I clicked the button, it took me to a 'submitted' page, and I immediately got an email saying it had been submitted
And I'm a lot closer to the deadline rn than you were then
So idk
i asked my regional admissions counselor and she said march 1st at 11:59 est
Man this being only 250 words sucks
i'm kinda glad because i get to be vague
Fair but I have a lot to say ☹️
thanks 🙂
does this mean if my counselor sends my second tri grades it won't be considered?
yes thats what it means
oh shit 5pm est ☠️
my loci so ahh 😭
just submitted my ECI 😋
is it okay to say "you" in the ECI?
as in like
"thank you for considering my application"
idk if this was supposed to be treated exactly like a loci or a little different
i did, prolly not that deep
anyone have an example email of asking for more money
When do RD decisions come out usually?
Early April
what was the acceptance rate last year?
also does summer start have different acceptance rate than fall start?
march 31st
thats how it was for me last year and i got an email around 3pm
It’ll be 13% this year
Yea
how do u know it will be 13% this year
based on their yield rate
their historical yield is steady at around 50%, so they will admit 15k people in order for half of those people to enroll
15k/115k is 13%
how did applications double in one year 💀
are they including transfer and grad admissions???
Where did it double?
The 115k applications included first year and transfer applicants
Thats still ~110000 first year kids
Insane
Hey does anyone know if financial aid and scholarships have been released yet for ea applicants?
i got mine
they sent an email
you can also go the like wolverine access and look for your finanial aid stuff
yeah i got mine a few days after i submitted my css in feb. make sure youre checking your umich email bc i thought they would send it to the email i applied with and didn't see it for 20 days 😭
Did any of yall get a handwritten letter from your regional AO?
Oh, how do you see your umich email?
The Joseph Geisenger scholarship sent an email to recipients earlier today.
Were students that applied automatically considered for that? And did it send it to a umich email or the one that you applied with
Students had to apply separately to this scholarship. I found it through the College of Engineering scholarships page. Most of these scholarships’ deadlines have passed by now though—I believe the LEAD scholars program at Michigan is open for its second round though so I suggest you submit something for that soon. The notice was sent to my personal email since I haven’t committed yet.
Ok thank you
have you created a friend account yet? if not, go to your portal bc there should be steps on how to create one, and from there you will gain access to your umich email
Damn when
About a week after EA results.
Maybe 2 or 3 weeks I’m not sure.
Do yall know RD decision date
according to the a2c website, speculated on the 28th
or 21st
all the tiktoks glamorizing big10 life (not big10 a2c college counselor extraordinare lol)
Okay thanks
big10 schools are great if you want academic rigor and great athletics
is it too late to apply for scholarships
How do u even apply for scholarship
mich has some school specific scholarships you can apply for
check the deadlines
Well gotta getin first
well when u apply ur considered for merit scholarships then if u get in there are also school specific scholarships you can apply for
Yeah but I got deferred
any tips for the lsa honors prompt?
Utilize an AI text generator to write an essay on the topic “Why is the LSA Honors Program a good fit for me?”
Provide us with that essay and in the same document, write your own essay discussing whether or not that AI-generated essay accurately captures your desire to participate in the lower-division Honors Program in your first two years of college. Reflect on your personal goals and meaningfully discuss how/why the AI-generated essay captures or doesn’t capture that. Please limit your essay to 750 words. The word count does not include the AI-generated essay.
wow
very cool prompt
use ai to answer the second question lol
Wrote mine a while back, biggest thing is try to stay on topic. I kept trying to drift into a “why the honors program” style of essay, and sometimes forgot about the needing to address the ai part, causing me to restart some sections.
I honestly have heard the honors program has very limited benefits 😭
i got a mail today
i know it says its not indicative of my admission to umich
but how many other people got this mail too
i think everyone who chose to send their info to flint & dearborn got it, i got it when i applied ea
did anyone get the engineering scholarship of honor
is it different from the victors award
"dawg" i'm aware, i'm just letting him know it might not even be worth it (as someone who goes in state and has friends in the program)
you were able to check boxes that let them send your application to both campuses
dawg🤓🤓🤓
lmao
JUST GOT INTO UMICH HONORS
NICE!!!!!
Thx!’n
Does anyone here have experiences with the honors program and can tell me their personal experiences with it?
Sigma
AYEEE CONGRATS!!!
Wait were you accepted EA??
It is different. Did you receive it?
yes :)
That’s absolutely incredible! Congratulations!
The Victors Award is typically disbursed to individuals with low income, whereas the Engineering Honors award is purely merit based.
Yes!
NICEEE you ateee!
That honors essay is legit killing me
Did you get into ross?
Nice, instate(
?
Oh thats tough
Idk what
Oh damn
I mean still top 5 program is huge depending on what you wanna do
What were your stats like
does anyone know when rd comes out🙂🙂🙂
Late march early april
Am I crazy for thinking that Michigan CE is not worth $25k/year total cost of attendance
Everyone around me is telling me it is, but $100k feels like an unfathomable amount of money
thats cheap
i mean it all depends on how much your family is willing to support
even if i had to take 100k in loans, i think itd be worth
return on investment for CE is good
Cheap 😭
My parents aren't helping at all
The thing is I can go to my state flagship for free
What is it?
Utah
Yea fs
in CE does college prestige even matter that much?
According to the department of education you’ll make 125k a year based on median earnings
For computer engineering
At umich
Are you getting any money from stanford?
How much from uiuc?
Whats the cost difference
What major?
Hmm
Perhaps
If money is a concern for you and you’re not a prestige “whore” uiuc is great imo
Yea yea but im saying for your situation
Yea
If you ever want to divert from cs tho stanford would provide the best opportunities over uiuc
Also in terms of transitioning and finding other opportunities
For CE and CS college prestige is mattering more and more
But 100k debt is still a lot
Weigh your options
In this very competitive market? Yes it does
They increasingly filter by school
Not rlly plus uiuc being a great school is comparable in some ways for cs
Not comparing UIUC and stanford
Yes
Yea maybe
Then
I would go umich because i think the roi is justifiable to spend 100k across all 4 years
Is your state school cheaper?
25K isn’t the same for anyone
I would consult your parents if they’re the ones financing your college education
Get their perspective and see if 25K/yr is reasonable
if you can take a nice low interest loan, the 100k will payout over the rest of his career
🤷♂️
Yh
not when he gets a good swe role, he can pay it off slowly
If you qualify you should apply to LEAD Scholars
Thats a matter of risk vs reward
I for one am doing Engineering because its safer than business but similarly rewarding
no im saying utah is safe for money, u mich is believing u can land a solid role after
i mean i get ur point too
i was going for that tho
ye but the risk is wayyy lower
in terms if money
true, bro just gotta see his risk appetite
and his goals
@wintry mountain your parents are not supporting you but the university doesn’t know that. If your family has any medical expenses, integral repairs, special circumstances, etc, you MUST request a “professional judgement” review because that will make the university adjust your aid package. This may help
bro got stanford too??
I’m not saying that the lack of support will give him more money
I’m suggesting that his family’s circumstances can still be applied to his narrative so he might reap more aid
You’re right that is likely what is happening
I’m so sorry
What does stanford and political beliefs have to do w each other 😭
Uni of Utah
Sorry I'll read through all these messages lol
@wintry mountain keep in mind that after your first year you will likely be working a summer internship in NYC/Boston/Chicago areas paying 30K for the summer. This might be able to be contributed to your tuition if your aid package is unaffected
Keep in mind that Michigan has an upper division 15% tuition increase for juniors/seniors, and that this amount already starts off greater than the other Michigan school’s tuition because you would be majoring in engineering
I sincerely hope this works out for you and I greatly empathize with your situation. Good luck!
I hear about internships like this, but how common are they really?
Oof that kinda sucks ngl
At Michigan Engineering I have no doubt you will get an internship paying 30K
At lesser schools you have to work for those opportunities more often than not. Michigan’s benefit is that the companies will come to you
Right.
Very true very true
I only say this because I have family who are graduating this year from a lesser known but still reputable engineering school on the East Coast
If your parents are immigrants and you can’t take out loans you can get yourself a sponsor through the Director of Scholarships.
Mostly because they heavily discourage engineering undergrads from doing research
Yeah that's what's really driving this, if I liked the U I would go there for free in a heartbeat
Please make sure you apply to the LEAD scholars program.
But 90 minute commute one way + hostile management (it's not just me, everyone else hates it) makes me really not want to go
Thank you I definitely will ❤️
Not much unfortunately
The only external scholarships I really qualify for are governmental ones
I applied to SMART so if that came through that would be huge
If your only interest is research ROTC for 3 semesters might be reasonable
Itll be tricky with the things going on w/the government
Unfortunately looks like LEAD scholars deadline has passed 😭
Yeah that's what I don't like about rotc
More likely than not itll be more competitive than wver before because of limited spots
It definitely will
My numbers may be off but 3 semesters = 3 years of serving, which, as an engineer, can be spent in a lab.
You should apply to some scholarships that nga has. I think its a little easier to get
No
There is a second round
Can be, but they can assign you anywhere. SMART is guaranteed to be something like a lab which is why I applied to that
Oh I see mb
Dw
I see. I didn’t know this
@wintry mountain look into the stokes and the geoscholar scholarships
Am I crazy or is there nowhere to apply here
Prospective LEAD Students Since its founding, there have been 856 LEAD Scholars. Here’s what it takes to join the 2025 cohort. Definitely will, thanks 🙏
I’ll see if I can find it but when I was applying I emailed them and they told me the second deadline is April 21st.
Yeah it says on there the second deadline is 4/21
But there's just no section to apply
Maybe they open up after rd releases
Since I should've applied round 1 as an ea admit 💀
I can’t find it either. There used to be an ‘Apply Now’ button. I would consider emailing them
I was freaking out after EA because Michigan is the dream for studying math and science and getting involved in research all with the college experience in tow. I’m blessed to have received a scholarship large enough to make it just within my range. I really hope it works out for you too because the process of looking for financial recourse levied a considerable amount of stress
Mich is brutal with merit aid but if you get it, then you’ve got a way in. I implore you to seek out demographic scholarships that suit you
Thanks! And I'm glad it worked out for you!
Yeah unfortunately as a white male interested in engineering I don't think I'll have much luck haha. The only demographic scholarship (it was even through UMich) I could find was an engineering scholarship offered to (among other places) Utah students... the deadline was before I received my aid package
No school is worth an uncomfortable amount of debt, but I’m sure that if you win enough in scholarships you can make due
Good luck
You think it’s worth full price for cs?
For roi
It’d probably end up being like 100-120k of loans unfortunately
yall
did u guys do the continued interst shit
i js copy and pasted my conclusion for one of my essays and called it a day
Yuh mine was pretty buns
Yeah, I threw something together
I just yapped about what I’ve done and why I want to attend
No, my college counselor said it doesnt make a diff cuz i have no updates
100k+ in undergrad is wild, unless u have no other options I’d say no
Especially in the current job market where u arent guaranteed a high paying job when u graduate
Of course not
100k in loans + interest?
In state student here throwing in my two cents as someone who knows multiple people going into CS (in and out of state) also likely paying for their own education because of FIRST Robotics. They're all shooting for UMich (even the kids who already got into the flagship tech school in the state --Michigan Tech-- that offered them so much money it'll be like 25k over 4 years lol). It's because the CS market is becoming heavily reliant on prestige and I consistently hear stories about even kids from UMich unable to find jobs due to oversaturation. Going to the University of Utah or any of your state school will hinder you in regards to connections, and those really make or break your career nowadays in CS as well. However, if you're able to really excel and be at the top of your class, I could see it maybe working out. Umich just has a higher success rate, that's all
Obviously, this is a huge decision. However, I think the ROI is definitely worth it.
Also! Look into your community foundation. Typically any town even rural will have one that hands out scholarships for students, although that might be contingent on attending a preapproved university
Yea
Fair, you think worse jobs than ce?
Yeah
Hmmm yeah, I guess that's fair
wdym
Utah certainly won't make it easy to excel given how much they hate their undergrads 💀
maybe consider 2 years of cc n then transfer to unis like umich?
you'd still have debt but not 100k level
Yeah that's what I'm worried about 💀
if u got into umich now your prolly rlly smart, as long as u dont slack off you'd def get into a good uni later even if not umich
true but also, you might end up regretting turning this down
also true lol
This definitely is a concern I've had though. Since I do dual enrollment there I've basically felt what it's like to be a student every day (I would need to live where I currently am to save on housing anyway) and it's not great
Yeah cc just seems like a really risky route
just full send
this is the one time in your life, that YOU. truly you. are in charge of your future
yes there's risks, but it's the once in the lifetime opportunity to really just seize it by the horns and full send
nope
umich cs is also gettign more and more competitive
gotta debate the risks, but u mentioned that even umich students r struggling in the job market. If thats true is 100k worth it?
I'm CE but I'm really leaning into CS
yes because the success rate is at least still higher
overall
Think like designing compilers to optimize hardware
I would probably just be doing CSE (ig now that I looked it up)
then the cs advanced selection
I got admitted to the engineering college then you can pick your major from there
Like the job outcomes for cs vs ce or other similar engineering
okay then wait for some other colles lowkey
ngl it makes 0 difference
umich is 1. top 10 for CE as well
- they deadass get the same jobs
I guess a CS major in LSA and CoE which is weird
Real
I have no idea tbh, i'm a bio major.
yeah that's the advantage
just do umich lowkey
You don't even need chem lol
Thanks for the input though 🙏 I'll definitely be talking with my parents over the next few months
no problem
Yeah it might be like a gen ed or smth
I have a 5 on chem though which I think would cover it
please don't sacrifice this great opportunity just because of financials. yes it matters, don't let it impact your whole life trajectory
So I would have to take a 200 level chem class ig
I don't mind chem though so it's ok
I guess not lol
Linear Algebra or Multivariable Calc and Vector Calc
If umich let's me transfer credits I'll have my whole core besides the one chem though
Which would be based
✅
Dual enrollment yeah
Aw rip :(
Yeah
I bet the EE track requires more stuff like semiconductor physics though
Ok that's kinda bonkers
Quantum I could maybe see, but thermo?
💀
Yeah I was potentially thinking that earlier
Would save a ton of money
Idk how much will transfer though
Checking their website rn yeah
Oh wait this is actually really nice
They have a whole nice website for it
Oh ok that's cool
Yeah I've never heard of it before now
Yeah I'm just looking at there version rn
Looks like all my math, physics, and cs classes would transfer which is 🔥
Even my DE writing classes would transfer?!
Yeah so I could hypothetically graduate in 3 years at umich ig
$75k is still a lot, but much better than $100k
Thank you 🙏
Oh fs
I mean I still have a bunch of colleges I'm waiting on in march but
Yep haha
I work on my local planetarium designing exhibits rn, and it's a job I actually enjoy, so I'm going to crank as many 40 hour weeks as I can during the summer
ur in state right?
i mean id assume so but id talk to people in cs rn at the university before making any decisions
Nope unfortunately
umich 80k a year is such a turnoff
Trying to decide between this for like 80k and umd for like 50k, along with a few other options
Both cs
if ur middle class ur cooked
umd cs
Yeah I know, really sad
u dont needa pay another 30k for undergrad a year
😂
as good as umich is
is it really that much more beneficial
You think jobs/internships would be comparable?
But yeah both are definitely great it’s just hard to justify 30k more per year
agreed
wait so itd me 320k in total
but u said 100-120k loans
Not true
Yeah we do
Imma choose UIUC over mich probably it comes down to it
I am…?
dude if u dont get scholarships or anything ur fucked
I havent gotten any
Well that’s what the physics c credit is for
how much do u pay
My parents own two businesses, I have investments saved
What’s your income
19k
👍
Umich barely gives aid to OOS
I’m aware
They genuinely could not care less☠️
That’s not true
You can’t assume my parents have more to spend just cause of that
How much do your parents earn a year I’m just curious how the aid works
Lemme double check but it wasn’t egregious
It’s above 100k
Your SAI??
No I mean idk what you’re asking about
Mines like 4450
Yes
Not that much esp since the money is into the coporatuin and they only get select amounts
☠️
yeah because i was talking to eclipse
I think my mom makes like 3k a month
do u get aid
Basically
u werent cooked because u got aid 😭
Not for fafsa though
Most middle class does☠️ what
I only got 5.5k in loans
What do you consider middle class
Nate sit your cynical ass down tf
dude if ur sai is high enough ur not getting anything
cope??
Yes
the most u get is like 5.5k
My fafsa was 24571
Since you won’t believe me, buddy.
I got no aid from fafsa
and u pay $19k
Your point
so u got substantial aid
What’s your incoke
Income
I genuinely don’t understand what the problem is here
