a lot of honors programs offer scholarships, exclusive dorms, and classes that arent available to the general public (i.e. at penn state theres an infamous freshman english course thats hell on earth to register for that honors college students dont have to worry about because they have an honors-only english course)

also the capstone projects/theses are really helpful for grad school admissions and tend to be a requirement because most honors college students intend on going to grad school in some shape or form

Because some people are asking, Chencellor's Scholars (CHP program) are different than James Scholars. CHP is a university-wide honors program with only around 500 undergrads total (~120 per year) that mostly accepts in-state students, whereas James Scholar is dependent on your specific college. Feel free to ping me or message me if you have anything you want to know since the two programs are quite different and I'm a CHP student.

I'd imagine the vast majority of students aren't paying 90k (or even close to it)

regardless before making these decisions based on price, I'd email the financial aid office at both schools and see what their aid is like, and what avenues you have to pay for school

since a lot of the time I'd assume the flat cost of attendance you calculate isn't going to end up being what you actually pay
