After 1st year, dorms are a lottery and you def can’t count on getting them. Half my friends got them and half didn’t. When you’re junior and senior, they have upperclassman apartments that you can apply to which I think are a lot easier to get so it’s really only second year that’s a bigger challenge. Finding housing in IV is honestly not that bad, you just have to start early and use the campus resources. There are a lot of housing fairs and there’s housing advisors+tenants union, people just struggle to get started bc they don’t think to use the resources available. It is expensive but there are cheaper options as well like the sb housing co ops which are a great option

I was really worried about it but once I started actually looking it wasn’t that bad at all. I just went to housing fairs, talked to the people there and figured out what I was looking for in an apartment (how many roommates, price range, whether I wanted by the bed vs one overarching lease) then went door to door asking to see people’s apartments and what their experience was like. Then my roommate and I applied to the ones we liked and now we have housing! Next year I’m going with the housing co ops though, they sound awesome. We just didn’t consider them until too late

I think it’s more than there are so many applicants, it’s really luck based like basically a lottery. There are so many people w equally good applications that I think it mostly comes down to luck and whether you fit the demographics they need. Like your admission to ucs truly says nothing about your chances anywhere else or even to other ucs
