#All UCs (2024-2025)

I think it depends on your major
Because my family friend at berk said the grade deflation hit her hard for mcb
thats an astronomy class lol
every single mcb major i've met bar one is fucking stupid
like no offence
yeah somewhat
Um
i also voluntarily consented cuz it wasnt real hazing
but how can you get in to berkeley and not know how to do basic 9th grade chemistry
Well she’s not stupid I can tell you that 😭
You realize that everyone has different backgrounds right 😭 you don’t need to do chem to get into berk
didnt you get taken to the middle of nowhere, forced to do shots, then left there with no transport back
I didn’t take physics and I got into ucla
its not even about knowing chem tbh its about the fact that they put no effort to learn and chatgpt fucking everything
like im ngl
every premed major i've met bar one is only in it for the money / doctor rep
nobody actually cares about the subject
which is surprisingly not the case for cs / ds / eecs
and i thought it would be the opposite
damn really
no physics at all throughout high school?
physics is the best of the big 3 sciences change my mind
Idk maybe meet people from the bay
thats a heavy overexaggeration
we werent forced
That’s why so many people drop premed
and i got a ride back early
Not really no I did Calc
There’s a reason you’re not premed…
I like Calc though
There’s a lot of premeds here who didn’t take physics or chem like they took one but not the other
physics is amazing and every other science sucks
like wdym are you saying people from the bay are better or worse
i kind of agree
but i had a horrible physics teacher junior year and a mid one senior year
Very smart and motivated like the bay premeds ik at berk
You suck
my chem teacher on the other hand for all 4 years was fucking awesome
hmmmmmmm debatable
I’m not a physics fan but I don’t really know it
so i love chem
bio is the worst of the 3
Maybe you just haven’t met the right ones
objectively
chem >/= physics >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> bio
In another life I’d be a chem major
the only somewhat nice part of bio is genetics / biotech
in another life i'd be a physics major
I love molecular biology a lot
I like anatomy and physio too
Ecology and evolution are eh
Aw thanks
Ofc ofc
so true gene stuff goes tuff
@high bronze @marsh sparrow @mighty quail just got 15/45 on a practice 61a midterm 💀
so cooked for this test
wait rlly
which one
can i take it and see what i get
im almost done with my c88c practice problem set
fa'23
ill update you in a bit
took me like 40 minutes to do it lol
this looks horrendous
i will not be attempting this
there's only one trees right
wtf are generators
this isnt fair
how much time do i get for this test
and for midterm 1
2 hours
did you not cover generators
wwpd, env diagram, lists, recursion, generators, trees, linked lists
nope
which problem is generators
Cs mentors is a w 👍
4b
ok bet ty
really
i went to their review sesh and it was hella basic
like it would not be enough for the midterm
yeah that’s right but it’s a good starting point
ooh phew
fair
cs mentors for c88c was decent ig
maybe its just cuz i didnt know anything to begin with so it all seemed helpful
ok my score will be out of 29
why
yeah i thought the review sesh would be more like "here's the exact problems that will appear on the midterms and their solutions and how to solve them memorize them now" instead of "a list is a data structure in python where we can store multiple elements" /hj
fuck the lab for tmrw is mutable trees
kms
why is sending picture disabled
talk more to level up and get perms
u can dm me a picture and if its fine (content-wise, which im probably sure it is) i can send it for you
oh lol i was just going to send the cs70 midterm distro. everyone got cooked
damn :(
@forest sparrow 's score dis of cs70 midterm
damn
removing generators and trees question
you dont have trees?
fck 61a that class was torture
thats hella weird
im taking it rn
how bad was midterm 2 grade distribution lats year
@marsh sparrow the tree question in midterm 2 is tree recursion lol
took over summer so i cant say
how bad was it when you took it
only one midterm in summer
the summer midterm prob has content from midterm one and two for you guys
gruh
wait no its not
ohhhh
it uses recursion
we def didnt learn nodes and allat tho
nevermind
idk if i can take urs accurately
I’m cooked too then
our gsi said literally almost none of that test is in scope for us
wait lemme just see how i do given what i have alr
a massive 18 pt test
better than nothing
lol
9/18
nice
@midnight vine
got the entire 4a wrong
actually almost i got partial on the multiple choice
that's not bad
4, 5, 6 I got almost everything wrong
idt they give partial
yeah wtf are these
tf???
do they not
r u srs
im an environment diagram demon tho trust
i just suck at recursion
i mean 3 answers were right and it's 2 points
if it was 3 points it might make sense
i just docked a full pt
i got 2/3 of the answers
i feel like theyd give me partial
i just forgot to include #6 too
yeah same
but I score myself on the worse side on practice exams
lol fair
Does taking the AP art history exam fulfill the fine arts req
I believe the class itself fulfills it, you dont even need the test
can anyone who's doing the ucsd app let me know if there's an AI major in the dropdown?
or does it start next year
transfer?
nah im j curious
i found someone to do it for me, and theyre offering it :o
ah
they havent announced it or even released its curriculum, so idk how theyre rolling it out
but ofc they release it the year after i apply 😔
Oh hey my messaged got pinned I wonder when that happened
seems trivial. assuming you're going into the technical side of ML/AI, you would need at minimum a masters degree so ucsd ai or whatever xyz uni ai is somewhat meaningless
although i suppose there might be a few companies who could take in a BS with enough experience but that seems rather rare
D:
im an ai major at purdue lol
i just like ucsd a lot
yeah but my point was that whether it's ai @ purdue or ai @ ucsd, it would likely have no effect on your job outcomes without an advanced degree
that's just how the job market is atm 😔
exactly just do cs
i actually don't know what a BS AI degree entails
it was just under my assumption that those who are ML/AI Engineers are CS or Applied Math BS and then a masters in CS specializing in AI related stuff
is BS AI just a CS degree but your electives such as Neural Networks/Deep Learning/Computer Vision and stuff are required courses?
im not sure either.
ok yeah
so it's a CS degree but what would otherwise be available as electives for specialization is just enforced courses in AI and then you can specialize which area of AI you want to go in
i guess that's a nice way to specialize prior to grad school
ig ya
Yeah Purdues is rly similar to the cs degree except more ai oriented options in third and fourth year
I def plan on doing grad school of some type, so ig it’s good
!!!
WOOHOO
oh is this los angeles 👀
san diego
oh
is AI similar to a data science path kinda ? like cs + stats basically
for some reason
they havent even released the curriculum
which is weird
not exactly
kinda depends on what aspect of AI you're specializing in
if it's paired with robotics, then i am assuming you need more EE stuff rather than data science
alright time to get cooking on UC apps
hello chat
YESSSSS LET’S DO THIS! 🔥🔥🔥
is the parent information part required on the uc app
will it impact my application if i dont fill out most of it
My UC Application
ouuu thank u
they give you fee waivers if you're finneed
oh i guess it says in the ss
to the people who attend berkley, do you know how admissions to LSBE works. Do you apply for LSBE on the uc app and then go undecided freshman and apply in Sophmore year? How can you declare your major if you dont get in? and what options do you have
i have a friend who's lsbe so ill ask and lyk
I wonder when UC Hicago's ED deadline is
UC Hicago
anyone else get this email? i did not know that any UCs accepted LORs. is this a good or bad sign?
i think berkeley will sometimes ask a small amount of people to submit lors
good sign
To my knowledge, this is an augmented review
Asked to applicants with special circumstances or just who Berkeley is interested in getting to know more about
You can only benefit from it so take the opportunity and write well, good luck!
Why am I being asked for LORs/a questionnaire/additional info?
https://regents.universityofcalifornia.edu/governance/policies/2110.html
How do UCs review my app?
They also sometimes at least used to sometimes ask applicants for supplemental essay questions in addition to the ones you alr answer on your apps
It would be either supplementals or the LORs
Allegedly 7th semester grades are also an option but I never rly heard abt that one getting chosen
Basically this yeah
Campuses may request an additional review for a select pool of applicants who fall in the margins for admission, but whose initial application yields an incomplete picture of their qualifications, or presents extraordinary circumstances that invite further comment. Applicants, for example, might demonstrate special talents, potential, or accomplishments in specific areas that promise to contribute to the educational environment of the campus, but may require further explication. Or, the information provided on an application may fail to adequately explain the impact of what appear to be major disadvantages that the applicant has encountered.
A lot of people trip up over the first sentence but I reasonably believe it refers to meeting minimums over “you’ll for sure be admitted” or anything considering how early they send these out
Yes and also note that if you don’t receive an augmented review, that doesn’t mean you got rejected. A lot of people start panicking when they see other students online get augmented review requests
Did you apply l&s or engineering or other?
i did cs in l&s as my primary and then cs+ee in engineering as my alternate
How do ucs verify personal projects?
Like mid december when they ask 10% of applicants to show proof
depends on what the project is
if its something you built they might ask you to show progress pictures or something idk tbh
What if i never took progress pictures
Its like 300 solar panels i helped build
And a system to wash the panels automaticaly
you say you "helped" build so someone should be able to verify that right
also i wouldn't worry too much about that
you'll be fine
Like i helped my father build
yes to every question
if you dont get in im pretty sure you're just MCB
or you can switch to a different major in L&S maybe
Ppl already submitted? 😭
what do they expect me to put 😭 should i only put the yr2 one then?
French 1 French 2?
on my transcript its just French though
maybe French (11th grade) and French (12th grade)
or something like that
Isn’t cs in its own college
oh ok ill try that
oop that might be what i meant. idk tbh all i know is that the one with EE is my secondary😅
I see I see
whos applying to ucsd
Me
I am
mee
Me too
me
if you come to ucla and feel excited to go to santa monica, don't swim in the water
unless of course if you're a daredevil
^
poop water 😍
swimming in santa monica boosts your immune system
love it during the seasons when the water looks like espresso
I swam in the summer once with friends, it was fun but knowing what I know now I wouldn’t do it again
Buses here are so cute
They always write nice things on them
Today’s said smth diff but I forgot what
Sometimes it says “beep beep im a bus”
our bus usually says "go bears"
but for the last few days or week it's said "go vote"
well pre Nov 5 ofc but yeah
That is cute
oh gosh that is so cute
UCs?
All UCs
no like is that at a uc school yk
im saying that we're in the UC thread
why would it not be a UC school lol
it's Davis
wait does my alternate major have to line up with what my main option major is in terms of field or can they differ
in my case it’s statistics (first choice) and psychology (second; for ucsd it’s cognitive)
No they dont
ah
Noice! I had stats as my 2nd choice
And yea what avi said
thanks
UC portal is so annoying
is uc deadline 11/30 or 12/2
December 2nd, 2024 PST 11:59:59 PM
sick ty
dang it's really crazy how kids who go to one of the most competitive schools in the bay area can't read a website 🤡
LMAO
what
basically my entire grade thinks the deadline is still 11/30 ☠️
bro what 😭
its on the website bro
the offical website
its a simple google search 😭
UC application deadline: <t:1733212740:F> (this should show in your local timezone)
I respect you brave soldier

(idk what im saying)
im so close to crashing out
just need to make it through these next 8 days of school
good luck
apps are hard but they're fun and rewarding
thanks
icl i wish i could apply 2 college again
real
actually 😭
im so close to finishing apps bro
i just have nov 15th deadliens and 2 regular descisons and ucs
yeah
( i submitted 19 applications before this)
the waiting is much worse
LMAO
oh yeah
real
it is
i did like 15 ea 4 uc's and 6 rd
everytime i see a email from georgia tech
or ut austin
i keep thinking its a decision 💀
yeah
a2c went berserk when ucd/uci dropped
acc 😭
oooof thats far
penn state
yeah bc everyone was expecting ucd but people thought uci would be the week after
i mean i heard people are getting their acceptances like right now for university park so mabye few weeks
yeah i heard the chaos so many people got wl or rejected
dang p much same 17 EA 5 CSU's 8 UCs and 2 RD
some of my ea's had no supplementals so i was like no extra work might as well do it
like osu pitt etc
rit sent me a fee waiver apperently lma
thats nice gg
yeah
valid reaction
my friend got waitlisted into ucsc but got accepted into purdue somehow
once winter break hits **I am not touching a single textbook or assignment no mroe 😭 🙏🏿 **
#1135684518322380850 message lol the number of people who applied is crazy
this was @wooden sierra as well
i got into berkeley early but wl irvine 💀 got off eventually but yeah
real
yeah i heard
they got more applicants than they typically do
also is uc merced becoming a decent tier school now or some 😭 they're adding hella engineering majors
so they must be getting some good faculty to teach this right
like within the uc system
ive seen so many people shit on it 😭
but like obv i consider it decent
just wondering if they're going up in the ranks
cause of the majors they added
no way to know unless we see how the curriculum is ig
dang thats so random
yeah fair
but they're new so the only way they can go is up
yeah fair
i lowk fw the campus honestly
its hella modern
the location is isolated imo

Literally me 😔
Got rejected riverside but wled ucsc and Berkeley
It’s screwed
RIVERSIDE??
i bet it has to be yield protection 😭
😭
riverside got a big ego (jk)
i think it was yield protecetion prolly
cause they prolly know u wouldnt attend their school
Yeah it’s getting pretty good in the stem area
Of course it’s not perfect, still growing and all that, but it’s way better than people treat it
I got rejected Irvine and accepted Berkeley which was mildly goofy
Damm is EA worth it this much?
Should have fucking done it
should've gone
i have a friend who got into all ucs except for irvine last year
that was me but wl and i got off the wl so
did u apply to every UC ?
smae story here but only to the ones i applied to
i was able to get regents @ uci
yeah i meant this
<t:1733212740:F>
Doomsday comes soon, prepare for the inevitable
Help 😭
<t:1733212740:F>
I heard Irvine is really weird for admissions. A lot of top students get rejected there
what is this witchcraft
It’s good for questies
idk how to order my uc activities, should i group my activities together and my awards together as separate things? like activities for 1-5 and then awards and then more activities?
depends on how impactful your awards are
i did international/national awards 1-5, then activities, then added stuff like ap scholar at the very end
i have some national/international awards but theyre not that important to me, should i still list them first?
sorry maybe im overthinking this
yeah i def am
for anyone else who needs it this helped me a lot 👍
I think order it from importance to you. I listed the activities that I had the most passion for first. I didn’t really have academic awards apart from the standard college board ones
Oats got into MIT and WL at Irvine, yeah its pretty weird
irvine was tweaking this admission cycles or some 😭
- What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time?
For this prompt can my greatest skill be something like not really academics related but something stupid but kinda cool?
Yes, mine wasn’t about academics at all.
Oh I didn’t answer that PIQ specifically but none of my PIQs were academics related
Just stuff that I had a passion for
I only finished two so far but so far its about robotics club for the 1st PIQ and then Physics related which is passion/academics ig
thank you
this is so helpful thank you
Yep Goodluck!
which ucs are best for environmental/natural sciences? i figured since im writing the uc app i might as well check off a bunch of schools
i have ucla ucb and ucsd rn
I would assume ucd is good considering it’s an agricultural school
is it very rural?
ucb rausser
It’s about 20-30 mins from Sacramento which is a solidly populated city
But Davis itself is more of a college town
It’s also day trip distance from sf if you have a car
that doesnt sound too bad some people online make it sound like the worst tbh
Online people like to complain lmfao
We literally have a surf club
And they manage to make it work
if there's a will theres' a way
Yeah
Also Davis is one of the few towns I can name that are very student run like one of our best paying jobs is city bus driver (only undergrads can be one) and we have an event called picnic day run by students that attracts more people than the town of Davis’s population some years
tbh that sounds kind of fun i might add davis
Yeah we’re also very biking centered
Easy to get basically anywhere on bike and very safe to
yeah my brother still bikes
I do not but @tropic minnow or @desert escarp may
I go to Davis tho for questions abt that
If I'm an international application do the high school course requirements still apply to me? I haven't taken two out of three of the sciences. Thank you!
Hi
do you know anything about the ecology and evolution major at ucsc?
not really but id assume it’s pretty strong
there’s a lot of genetics research and also overall environment/ecology-related programs going on here so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to do stuff alongside your courses
the elective courses look pretty interesting
ya the program looks pretty good to me
what's the social atmosphere like?
it’s pretty chill you’ll find friends in classes pretty easily
there are parties/raves if you put yourself out there
tbh that sounds pretty good too
i might add ucsc and ucd since im doing this app anyway lol
Davis, Berk, ucsc, I heard La has a decent env sci program but it’s very small
Like maybe 80 people per grade in the major
they let undergrads drive buses??? damn
Pays ~$20/hr yep
Only undergrads can
For city buses
County are actual adults tho
wow
i would if i knew how to drive
i mean i do
but not buses
You need a normal driver’s license but if you get the job they train you to get a bus license
ah
But yeah since it’s operated by our student gov and partially funded by the city basically Davis residents pay fare but undergrads ride free with id but all routes save for one (which ends at the high school and only runs a couple times a day) run to one of two terminals at UCD
I am a huge nerd abt this!
The thing is the schedule is kinda dogwater
we have some student bus drivers too
And if you live in west village (the main upperclassmen housing/some off campus) the buses run more often but are always packed
metro buses are all adults but sometimes students drive campus loop ones
How often do y’all have bus crashes
definitely add both
Idt there’s been one yet
this year at least
Oh wtf
Oh
I was in one last year 💀
Not as driver
Was hella minor tho we just sideswiped a parked car
have you ever driven
I dont even have a normal license so no
oh
I have yet to go in a vintage double decker bus either
But they recently started running them for weekend farmer’s markets for free
I took the first two but these are the three bus types we have. First one runs for most routes, second (vintage double decker) runs occasionally and does multi routes or special events or farmer’s markets, and third (modern double decker which is the front bus) runs high traffic routes
The buses like to display nice messages too as shown in the first
vintage double decker looks so pretty
There was one major one awhile back where the driver died, but apart from that crashes aren’t very common
submitted 🥳
They bought new buses after that so a lot of the stuff is new
I think
They still feel old but they work perfectly fine
Also yeah our guys drive buses two, I saw a kid driving a bus while standing up instead of sitting in the seat and that was pretty funny
And yes we have very good environmental/genetics program, the genetics program is actually world renowned, and in general UCSC earth sciences and science in general is pretty strong, from what I’ve learned from older students you have good opportunities
tbh that sounds so good
It’s a great school for what you seem to be interested in, and I agree with everything Chip said.
Of course, all the other schools you mentioned have great programs also, and I agree with Carly that Davis has strong programs, so you won’t go wrong going to any of them
can someone please help 😭 If I don't meet the course requirements, I'm not gonna write those essays
here they are
you need 2 years apparently
In this case, I can't apply right?
I would ask
But I didn’t have my art credit done by the time I graduated high school
I had to do that during the summer
And all the UCs I got into still took me
u can ask me davis q too im doing ds :)
wrong ping but right person so oh well
for ucsd college rankings put
- sixth
- seventh
- eighth
You can mix seventh and sixth if lopcation isn't too important to you cause seventh will easily have the nicest on campus housing cause you get an APARTMENT not a dorm
You get a kitchen, living room, fridge, private shower (shared with 5-7 others)
Dang rly
dang ok thanks for the tip
do you think that the campus housing far outweigh the other like .. cultural (?) aspects of the colleges
Another day, one step closer to doomsday
You’re in seventh? What building
nobody gaf abt the “cultural” aspects
Seventh is abt a changing world i promise nobody gives two shits abt it
the west tower
Oh shii me too
Ig this could refer to the gen eds it comes with right
I am not sure if atry was referring to that too but I’ve heard some ucsd college gen ed sequences are kinda dogwater
chalk it up to institutional priorities that we’ll never truly know
personally i didnt like the idea of being crammed in a small room with 3 other sweaty people like in UCLA but to each their own
I’m in a triple rn and it’s genuinely fine
I enjoy it more than a double
Lowkey forgot most places don’t only have doubles and singles
triples suck ass double superiority
deluxe triples do be nice
especially if you're in olympic/centennial (like me 😄)
As a double person yeah
Don’t yall have quads
Olympic was nice when I was there
Kinda miss it
But maybe that’s just me reminiscing
olympic's sister building centennial is better
it's 1/3rd the size of olympic but the same amount of elevators and more restrooms per room
feels less crowded
both my parents are green card holders though my dad has been a permanent resident of california since october 2020
Real I love de Neve
Nah you even admitted it was chill
Not a single quad here
UCSC and Davis have quads
And Irvine
what's ur q
what is q?
it's about my parents' citizenship
they have green cards and are legal permanent residents but not citizens
question
oh
my parents citizenship
like yes they have their green cards and are legal residents of the us but are they citizens or not
yeah
idk
citizens = U.S. passport
my friend is in one
Fishy fishy
you are fishy
🐟
I’ve been summoned
Wouldn’t say entire future
im crashing out
Phlooph are you applying to UCs?
absofuckinglutely
W what major
computer science....
😭
might slihgtly be cooked but we r hopeful
ill also be applying to ucsc :)
Godspeed soldier
WW
love u avi
is the hosuing as bad as they say it is....
EVER SINGLE UCSC ADMISSIONS REEL IVE GOTTEN HAS HOUSING COMMENTS 😭
You'll get housing first year
wahoo!
From what the older students tell me it depends
Like for starters its not Purdue bad
But you start searching generally around January
😭
Also you can find stuff, it just might not be in your ideal price range
ahh yes i did hear about that
fair enough ok thats managable i feel
its quite scenic at ucsc right
i did hear its very beautiful in terms of nature
Yeah thats kinda how all the older students described it. Not ideal but managable if you do it right
i can handle that 🔥
aww very nice
i love me a campus thats very aesthetically pleasing
will make my eventual post exam meltdowns more managable
Real
True you can cook
Also I don't have many photos cause I'm waiting for my camera to arrive but here are some I've taken with my phone (old iphone XS or XR I forget which one)
Yeah it looks way better in person
has the location
of it being rather far away from the big cities
been a big issue for u avi
Uh not really. I do miss in and out but its not that big of a deal. Most of what I want I can get on campus or in Santa Cruz itself.
I do know some people take the highway 17 bus on the weekend to go to San Jose and the Bay as a whole to enjoy the amenities there so you can always do that. There's also a rent a car service you can do. Older students I know ride together in the cars some of them own when they want to go up to SF or other bay area places.
If you're desperate and need an uber, I will say you can get one but the prices suck
Yeah the bus lines here are actually pretty good when it comes to getting around Santa Cruz itself
We get free rides
Except for the 17 but thats ok
is it a big hassle to take the bus to the more populated areas of cali
kinda an odd question
Wdym
Like to the bay?
Oh
Uh to San Jose its about an hour
By bus I think Santa Cruz to something like SF can take 2-3 depending on how you time it
The highway 17 itself has some decent times from what I remember the timetables showing
I dont know about the bus lines in San Jose to other areas of the bay though
But I do know Cal Trains did electrify a portion of the line that goes from SF to somewhere
So it might be faster if you're willing to pay a bit more
hopefully no one died!
haha
get it
electrified
haha
regardless tysm for all the info avi
its actually so helpful
i appreciate u
Yeah lol no problem always happy to help, feel free to ask whenever you have questions
Gen chat kids wouldn’t understand
That implies gen chat kids could understand anything in the first place
Hi vsauce, Michael here. What is a gen chat? Is it related to a gen shin?
I’d say both have quite an impact 🤣
Both my brainrot and dad joke ratios have gone up sigmaficantly this app cycle and idk what that means
Damn, best of luck to you bro I got cooked so hard last year
By all of them? Or just a few
I got into most UCs, cooked by other out of states and private schools though (waitlist warrior)
where'd you end up
I’m at ucsd rn
Nice
I would
UCSD cs is solid
You got this phlooph I better see you at La 😡
you spelled berkeley wrong
I also got into LA but I didn’t end up going
He’s too cool to be going to your depression school
Dang why
bro is literally a cs major
cscscscscscs
@hood wya
?
ucsd cs > ucla cs im presuming
I thought there was better cs opportunities here and less grade deflation
Uh no
And I heard ucla cs was too theoretical
I see
Also LA is too chaotic for me
UCLA actually grade inflates like crazy
This is true
I know plenty of people here that did the same but to each their own, I like the sports part about LA but too bad the football team is trash
Idk about La cs in comparison to sd cs but I know La cs is definitely a lot harder than like Davis cs
Basketball >>>
Yeah if it were between that then LA would be an obvious choice
True
Yeah no I mean course load wise
Both women’s and men’s ‼️
I also think the types of people both schools attract are very different
Like I would not enjoy sd
But my best friend is there and loves it
Yeah that’s fair
It’s definitely not a traditional campus
Idk much about Davis cs though friend there says it’s actually not bad
Yeah one of my other close friends is there and she has more of a social life than me
Their cs is very chill
Yeah I hated it
Also the college system is icky
I’m in seventh so I got pretty lucky when it came to the colleges in terms of both living and GEs except it’s far from everything
Oh you’re blessed
I wanted Muir but I got revelle
Yeah the lower cs classes seem chill, ik ucla also has the same thing but i find priority enrollment convenient because i have friends at Berkeley who are cs majors and they have to fight for classes with other majors
Are you regents?
No
But they pre-authorize you to enroll in classes if you’re in the cse department
Yeah I agree I have priority and I would have been screwed otherwise 😭 I know for ucla cs you have to take 4 classes essentially every quarter yo graduate on time but Davis is 3
Ohh
Makes getting popular classes easier
Yeah the major has a lot of reqs including physics I think
That’s very nice
I can basically graduate comfortably in 3 years or even winter quarter my junior year if I really locked in
Yeah 5 physics + I think 1 or 2 labs
Very chill
Yeah I don’t like physics so that’s another thing
Yeah ucla cs is an actual cs degree
by actual cs degree, I mean you actually learn computer science and not just software engineering
She’s not wrong
In industry, UCSD CS gets a better rep than UCLA CS presumably because perhaps their focus in CS is geared towards software engineering and other derivatives of that
In academia though, UCLA CS is a lot stronger
I have seen plenty of people take SD CS over LA CS which is a fair pick
I’m saying that it’s too theoretical for me, the courses (not just cs ones) here imo balance theory and practice pretty well
But that’s just from what I was told and what my limited experience dictates so far
You’re correct
UCLA CS is more theoretical which is a common complaint amongst CS students here
I argue that sd is better for academia because the amount of research opportunity for freshmen and undergrads in general is amazing
theoretical cs is a W
I disagree
ucla math is also amazing
there are plenty of research opportunities here, I work in the CS dept and most of the cs students here who are in academia excel and generally get placed within the research teams of magnificent 7
UCLA math is undoubtedly better than SD
that being said
If I were in CS
And wanted to be an SWE
I would pick SD
but if I wanted to go to grad school in CS, I would take ucla
My goal isn’t grad school, I do think ucla does have an edge in the industry just because of name recognition overall however I just don’t think it was the right learning environment for me
also idk where Ruby is getting grade inflation from but everyone doesn’t get As gifted here lmao
ngl i kinda want to math undergrad and CS phd 🥴
No of course, to each their own, I am just saying what I know about our CS
that’s what I am doing
goated
And is, in fact, much better than doing CS undergrad
Tbh most of cs undergrad you can teach yourself
yeah
yep
i mean you can do the same with math arguably
hm, I have seen the opposite
I know someone here who picked sd over la and Berkeley eecs which was a bit wild to me
I think SD in CS has a better name
At least for quant roles, la does have a larger presence
oh quant
well yeah
I am in fact right now on my way to attend the Jane Street event LOL
That’s fire
Ik someone who’s a freshman here and has had interviews from Jane street, citadel, hrt, etc.
I didn’t apply to IB firms because all of them just recruit from Ivy League so I thought why bother
if this was ucla cs in engineering i wud take it in a hard beat
also ucla is one of the only schools that offers the amazon sure program
which uc is best to do med at and get hte courses within 4 years
Idk my friends who are cs here at ucla were originally committed to ucsd and they told me that they decommitted because ucla cs was stronger and more geared towards their career goals
did you not see the cluster midterm average
I'm sure there's not grade inflation in your grad courses but there most certainly is in many ug courses
Ty ruby!!!
Ngl ucla ucb ucsd if anyone accepts me i would be overjoyed
I believe in you
agreed
especially uc berkeley
ucla cs doesnt compete
UCLA cs is great tho
Why is cs undergrad not good
ucla cs is terrible the only good cs program is berkeley 👍 💯
Ok but the cluster’s primary goal is to take out multiple GEs for students
it’s not really feeding into their major GPA
if applying for grad school
if for technical job, pursuing a PhD is a waste
But like what’s wrong with cs undergrad then more cs grad
A math intensive background will prepare you much better for research in CS
CMU
Pretty sure that goes both ways, if you ask someone at ucla obviously they’ll justify their choice for that school and the other way around is the same
Nah Merced
Nah SJSU
never heard of that school before
lowkey though, I have heard sjsu gets cracked placements
typical Ivy League elitist mentality, I don’t blame you

it’s the system
Yeah but you can’t get classes/graduate on time unless you come in with a ton of credits
average overly pressed ucla student
Ok but doesn’t cmu have like the top cs program in the country
pressed about CS?
It’s also expensive yes
they’re joking lmao
CMU? Central Michigan University?
best state to study
My friend is applied math and he’s really goated I aspire to be like him 🤩
pressed about ivy league prestige
Damn you all summoned the unemployed council
😂
ts too funny ngl
Prompt engineering
artificial intelligence
idk about this man im at berkeley and can easily get into the cs classes as someone not even cs or eng
Going to add that I’m not regents and didn’t “fight” both sems, got my first-choice options woooo
Maybe we are unicorns and we got mad lucky 😎
Oh I guess I did get priority 😢 but point stands maybe? Since it’s also data science majors and cs majors
How are you priority
I meant reserved seats
wdym
rsrvd seets
You're still competing with those in your major but its probably better than no reserved seats
yeah that's not really priority
i don't have reserved seats tho but I get cs classes fine
yeah i misspoke
like anyone can get A/B/C and maybe 70
damn, someone’s pressed
alright bud
let's be nice guys!!
have to put the inferior ucla students in their place
what joke
Ngl I think I would die at Berkeley
under the stress
Yeah there’s spots in certain lower div cs courses reserved for cs, engineering, civil, undeclared l&s, etc. my friend in civil engineering at Berkeley says there’s more seats reserved for civil in some big cs classes than for cs majors
wait acc just come u dont need to try too hard
just enjoy life
and get a good job
something u cant do at ucla
😭😭😭
bro I gotta
Get in first
why more for civil
I appreciate the offer though
lowk though Berk cs is kinda crazy
I recall seeing graphic of the medial salaries of cs grads from ucs
ML/data stuff is big for civil ig
eecs or pure cs
😁
which ones less competitive
It’s inflated by quant
eecs then
might change
eecs has a higher acceptance because cs switched to direct admit
but prolly eecs still
I see but shouldn’t that happen for upper divs? lower divs are preparatory/prereq classes
yeah
not skibidi
However take into account that just more people apply for raw CS
I’m not sure about the upper divs, all I know is at least for the intro cs course and a few ml ones, civil and some other majors have a pretty large reserved seating percentage
ok so
eecs is less competitive?
damn, good to know
I’d argue they’re both competitive but then again I know 10+ people last year that applied as eecs and was waitlisted while everyone who applied cs got rejected
Including me ofc
owch rip
yes
Berk is crazy ngl
true
like I have a friend there
consulting clubs
Who plays poker every day
...
I visited my friend there over the weekend, apparently some dude spent 3 days in the library
what do you wanna do
No it’s another guy
And there’s famous homeless people if
ok good
dw
Ig
bc if you like coding but not hardware you'll hate eecs
speak for yourself it counts for mine 🤷♀️
lowk like
coming to spens black to play poker at midnight td
I could see myself liking it
most likely
This is kinda true 😭 like I know the regulars
good for you I suppose
Go to 14a as well and ls 7a
omg all the uc students here
bro even getting flamed by students from his own school
Do you know that one dude who prints unique posters every day and posts them around campus
Ima go the hardware side I find it more interesting, I think
🤩
No
have fun
blud thinks I care
yeah it's wonderful
lmk when you're at u3 ill dox you to a2c
ive won like 230 in the past 2 days
maybe your major just doesn't grade inflate
schlawg
Me ?
Is there any point
like take a pic?
For putting an alternative major
blud seems to care a lot
That’s more competitive than my selected major
cause I know ls most definitely grade inflates, same w like polisci and pub aff, etc
I’ve only been to unit 2
or is it pointless
yes
well yes, we are the math department, we aren’t like the other departments :/
you got a problem?
Lowkey even lower div math classes inflate
wtf slide some over
like my friend is in 32a and their average was like an 85
Love u fangy
