functionally for us, the way this works is: we identify who we want to admit, and then send a list to MIT SFS (separate office), who reviews their financial aid application annd returns a list of students with $0PC that we then send to QB as our matches

and anyone that SFS says has >0 PC we then roll over into the EA applicant pool (unless they match elsewhere)

At my school most students don’t even read their school email (some people always don’t fill out the graduation paperwork) so getting them to read college emails seems way harder

We add everyone to the monthly newsletter, but we also use it for targeted outreach for rural, under-represented, low-income, etc students, who in fact (and to the surprise of many) mostly do not apply to MIT if we don't do outreach (even if they score very well in STEM and want to study STEM in college)

and we've done that since the late 1960s

(you'd be surprised by how many people with very strong STEM abilities do not even know what MIT is, if they come from less educational capital in their families)

As far as I know you technically only need the CSS profile to get your financial aid offer but obv you want your FAFSA to be in as soon as possible

Some people I know turned in their FAFSA pretty late, though that's in large part because the FAFSA was buggy as hell last year
