I'm an international student (we have alumni). I got an interview a week after I applied. The people who didn't get in didn't get an interview; it's pretty much known that this is the case for international students, and it's really rare to get in without an interview. Another reason for this, as an alumni told me, is to check for English proficiency—to see if someone is actually able to hold a conversation.
