Schools: Penn State, Texas A&M, Purdue University (OOS for all)
Intended major(s): Economics plus maybe double in finance

I have a preference in having warmer weather and good opportunities on and/or nearby campus.

Penn State
pros:

  • Highest ranked in terms of Econ (41st)
  • Has a beautiful campus that is surrounded by forestry
  • small city atmosphere is nice since it isn't too crowded like in other cities/towns (thanks university park)

cons:

  • Weather is pretty mid (due to the cold)
Kinda far away from major cities (in middle of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia)
  • Not many opportunities at the specific location
  • Economics there isn't heavily math based apparently

Purdue
Pros:

  • Cheapest of the universities by far (41k per year)
  • Good economics program (51st)
  • Has good classes for other majors too if I wanted to explore

Cons:

  • Wasn't accepted to the major I picked (got Law and Society)
  • Weather might be a problem since it is more cold there
  • Heard that the school is only good for engineering
  • Far away from the main cities

Tiebreaking considerations:

  • Do all three have the possibility so that I can be able to double major in both Econ and Finance?
  • Which unis has the most opportunities on their campus?
  • Can I switch majors easily in case Economics doesn't work out?

Penn State has a lot of opportunities and resources on campus, so much so it can be easy to overload yourself

#

I believe at Penn state you can double major in econ and finance, I will get back to you on that though

#

In case econ doesn't work out, you do have the ability to switch majors, but depending on how many credits you took before switching, you might be locked out of some majors

#

For example, you expressed some interest in engineering in your post. Most popular engineering majors have enrollment controls, i.e. you need to complete required classes with a C or above within a certain credit window. If you pass that credit window, you will not be able to pursue the major at university park, and there are very rarely any exceptions given
