I am an international student from India and till now got acceptances from these two universities as my best option and wanted to decide which should I commit to.
My major goal is get good internships at least in my sophomore year during my undergraduate journey and work in a big tech companies like FAANG after graduation (a pretty generic one I think 😅)
They both cost me the same because UMass gave me scholarship

So, I wanted know others opinion on this and which university would be better for me?

I hate to break it to you but that’s not gonna pay off your costs

#

Sure it’ll help but you need plenty more

#

Also you realize day to day expenses outside of tuition will likely be more expensive in MA therefore reducing how much you actually get

Also you’ll still need to pay taxes and the state rate may be higher in MA

Disregarding cost they’re both great schools

#

I think rent in WL is cheaper than Amherst tho

#

So if you aren’t guaranteed 4 years of housing that’s a consideration

#

Also x2 you mention internships

#

If you’re not within commuting distance of a major city you’re going to struggle more bc you’ll either have to hope you don’t get locked into a 12 month rent contract at school and then need to pay rent at your internship location (basically double paying rent) or you’ll need an internship that pays relocation which is rare

Purdue has a constant housing crisis and you’re basically forced to look for outside housing (meaning possibly a higher COA) after your 2nd year. I’d honestly go for Amherst if cost is a big factor

#

plus they have great food that’s already covered in your total costs

#

both schools are good enough to get your foot in the door but that being said, for CS it doesn’t really matter where you go

#

people in uiuc struggle to get jobs let alone internships so just keep grinding those internship applications when you attend wherever you want to go

#

but both schools regardless will get you the same amount of opportunities

#

also about the rent thing:
from my college freshmen kids who go to Purdue they said rent was higher than Amherst but take it with a grain of salt

Got any proof

#

As a uiuc student a bunch of CS majors have gotten internships for summer

#

At least recently

I mean finding a job depends on if you have the skill too

#

Uiuc offers a lot of opportunities to get to a stage where you can demonstrate skill to company

#

But if you mess it up it's your fault

#

I got at least 20 interviews for internships this year

#

But yea I know people who came in with no coding experience and are interning at google

#

So yea it's def possible to get internships
