#Purdue Engineering vs. UIUC LAS (aka should I become an engineer or a doctor?)

OOS for both
I just want money

Purdue
Pros:

  • Very well-known for engineering, lots of resources
  • Considerably cheaper
  • Engineers make hella money (if I ended up getting an engineering degree I probably wouldn't do med school, so I'd save money on med school as well)
    Cons:
  • I'm bad at math, worried I'll ruin my GPA only to transfer out and have no way of getting into med/grad school
  • Overenrollment/crowding concerns
  • Grade deflation

UIUC
Pros:

  • MUCH higher chance of getting a good GPA (I plan on doing HUM/social psych major, which is my strong suit academically)
  • I've seen less complaints about UIUC online, could just be me though
    Cons:
  • Med school is hella hard to get into
  • High chance of ending up with no med school acceptances + useless/low-salary major

Notes

  • Don't really care where I end up for college; mostly just concerned about what I'm going to do when I get there LMAO
  • Any opinions/advice is appreciated

Thank you!

To be honest, any good engineering degree from an R1 research university would pay dividends. Doesn't have to be some prestigious school to get employment.

If you can nail algebra well, easily Industrial Engineering; otherwise any other type of engineering if you want to make an impact

#

If you worry about passing engineering classes & nailing the math, business specialities don't kill either (talkin' to you logistics majors).

I would personally say Purdue > UIUC Humanities, unless you actually want to get a career related to the humanities (not just risking the biscuit/gravy for med school)

uhh it depends on what career u want fs

#

if u want to play it "safe"

#

engineering is a good choice if u can deal with the courseload

I would not do medicine unless you are incredibly passioante about it

#

GPA also doesn't matter as much as you think it does

Engineering is all applied math lol

#

Physics is applied math, and engineering is applied physics

#

So while you might touch on some theoretical stuff in some of the math prereqs (multivar, linalg, diffeq) past that it's most if not all applied math

Yep, engineering is just applied math
