Hi all, I'm an international student considering applying to some American (and Canadian + British) colleges for either international relations or history in 2025 (I have two years of military service starting next year so I'm not applying EA). I'm an IB student, haven't received my predicted grades yet but I'm not expecting the best. I'm a pretty average student. My school yields an average IB score of 38 and with hard work leading up to my exams in November, hopefully, I can achieve a score in that range. I have some extracurriculars (no awards though) but certainly nothing comparable to the folks at r/chanceme with their varsity sports and internships at labs lol.
I understand that my stats are unspectacular and I'm an international student competing with thousands of immensely qualified Americans, so is it worth applying to these schools (of course, further consideration will be applied after I receive my final IB score and I understand that I may need to take the SATs)? I was looking at UIUC, Stonybrook, Rutgers, Wisconsin-Madison, Massachusetts-Amherst and Maryland College-Park but would be open to more suggestions (including Canadian unis). My budget for four years of tuition and living expenses is 200-250k USD (I can supplement this with earnings from a part time job while studying); I probably won't qualify for aid. Any insight would be greatly appreciated π
