No
Everyone does
😈 me omw to take cs classes
Ppl with more UNC hours get priority
im tryna apply to Kenan
so what if i dont get into all of those courses..
required for kenan
application
before soph spring
You will
Its not impossible its just hard to get exactly what you want your first 2 sems
You might have to... take an 8am 😲
Like I got into comp116/biol101/math232 my first sem which are all very high demand classes
actually maybe taking 8am will help me with my sleep schedule LMFAO
- Dont stress if you dont get the classes you want during summer registration or whenever the first/second waves of registration are for freshies
- Be patient, spots will open up for things you want, waitlist and coursicle are handy
- Do good research into what classes are being offered for the semester and have a fuck ton of backups. If you think you have enough, find 3 more
Yalls first class registration period is a literal bloodbath but people add/drop for the first 2 weeks ish (not including add/drop during open reg and whatever)
is there anyone for over the summer
like im gone
the entire summer
to China, Korea, and Japan and im pretty sure they got like firewalls
I'm not sure what the question is
copium
is 8am the earliest classes are
im gonna spend i think
or
ill probaly do comp 110
@ UNC
over summer i believe
might also do 210
we'll see
yes
Anyone know if I’ll get a package in the mail from UNC? 😁
If I got accepted I mean
U should ya
patiently waiting for mine as an intl
i got an acceptance letter mailed not sure if theyll send more im kinda hoping for stickers 🤞
i didn't haha
might have to wait
when unc scholars called you what did they talk about?
they sent stickers with my gift package :)
i think the actual goodies come once you commit
the guy asked me about myself and what im interested in/what other schools im applying to and then he sorta gave me a pitch abt honors carolina and some stuff about my scholarship and what it entails
he mightve just been part of the specific scholarshp program i got into
i think im in the carolina scholarship program(?) but its kinda confusing since it seems p small and i cant find much info about it online
OMG OK will wait for them excitedly
Guys can anyone access the connectcarolina page? im trying to see my financial aid award but everything on the website is coming up as error even though it says the website is stable
the same for me
yea
i can access ut
it
u need to set up
onyen
duo
^^ i can access it after setting up onyen and duo, but I don't see my financial aid award.
ye i set up my onyen and stuff and i have it on my duo but when i go to actually sign in and stuff the website acts all weird
yeah idk
yeah it doesn't look lik it should
i think we still may need to act commit
prob
i cant see my award
i think you have to wait a bit
I got an email saying aid offers were delayed
Hi shapel Hill
same
Fafsa shouldn’t have rolled it out if they were going to do this
How much of an Indian-American community does unc have?
omg hi
definitely present
A very significant one assuming your not referring to native american.
You mean native Indian or Asian indian
Asian Indian
Alr
from usnews
bro aint no way thats cap
wait okay bet
what kinda asian indians at unc
r they white washed orrrr
Have you been to Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Morrisville
no way
There are less whites and more indians lol
i see
just curious what type of indian are there
is it like mostly
north indians
south indians
no clue i am korean 😔
idrk north and south and stuff
i would think there's a good amount of both
are there a lot of korean people at unc
A good amt
Just stay away from frats and it wont feel like it 🧠
def will lol
but not for that reason
Many good reasons to avoid frats
So true
but also like 50%+ of unis donations come from them
A necessary evil
are frats racist and do smart (like intellectually smart) people rush
- I dont think they're inherently racist
- Tons of smart people rush
Just do your research on the frat first and you'll be fine
In this context are we thinking 10% is less or more
@inner quail NC state good for phy or unc
Both good
Look at their course offerings and maybe career outcomes if available
See which fits better
Got an email about Granville
Apartments
They look really good
what so funny is they wasted no time emailing us
Oh
What
Oh as in oh maybe ncsu is good for astrophy
Anyone know UNC OOS Reg decision ER?
They don't release acceptance rates split between regular and early iirc
why are they bad
well i mean
its not gonna be high regardless
Most are fine
I think there are 2 or 3 with histories of assault and other not good things
Academic frats are absolutely safe here afaik
Most social frats are still okay outside of the like
Man its bothering me that I forget the names
But there are lots of frats and sororities and most of the time they mind their business and have their own good time or whatever
Yeah
idk how bad sorrorities/frats are with hazing at UNC
I know they were bad at my mothers alma mater
Wow
?
Discord moderator got me into UNC. Lol
pick three out of alpha beta gamma kappa theta mu phi and you get your name
I meant specifically the frats to avoid
Lol
whats the best dorm
Where’s my admit package 😭😭
prolly wont come in for another month
i got into purdue jan 15th
i just recieved my admit package today
flyers, a welcome letter, and a single sticker
i think they'll give more if/when i commit
A single sticker 😭 how sad
But cute
ikkk LMFAO
is it possible to be rejected from chapel because u are a non-immigrant rather than considering your application content?
idts
cuz me being a high achieving student got rejected, but my friends (plural) who are slightly less achieving than me (not to belittle them) got accepted and they are US citizens or permanent residents. a lot of ppl said its possible cuz of my citizenship status that i got rejected cuz of the cap on immigrant acceptances
It's possible that they viewed your application with more scrutiny due to the fact they do legally have to cap OOS acceptances
But the odds they reject you simply for your citizenship status is slim to none considering holistic admissions, and that there are a lot of people of varying citizenship statuses here
It seems they didn't think you were a good fit
¯_(ツ)_/¯
😭 i see
You can be in state without citizenship
the form you need to fill out to get a residency ID number doesn't ask about citizenship
Yeah, I didn't get that vibe from what they were saying abt their situation tho (since they didnt explicitly say they were considered in state)
unc is amazing awesome great for everything
check linkedin
based on linkedin ive seen unc purdue and umd roughly equal
ive been trying to justify to myself choosing unc over those other two 💀
why?
cuz the other 2 are technically better cs schools
but i like unc as a school much more
They don't feed anywhere near as well as NCSU, but if your a top student you'll have a shot no matter where you go
NCSU sends 329 to Snap, AirBnB, Meta, DocuSign, Stripe, Google, HubSpot, LinkedIn, Microsoft, SalesForce
UNC isn't listed and likely sends <100
Based on this list Purdue is the best option I have
But that has a little bit to do with UNC having a smaller population than NC State
Since I'm citing the non adjusted for undergraduate enrollment rankings
Again take everything with a grain of salt
And don't make bigtech your dream man
It isn't the only option and often isn't even the best option
- I hate them all, but that is personal and unrelated
I got it today haha
The sticker was even sadder than what I thought it was going to be
yeah ur def right
im mainly focused on going to a school that leaves as many windows open as possible
Are you in state?
nah im from NJ
You applied out of state to UNC for CS?
Purdue is by far the best name on that list, but I'd definetly tour the schools in person to see which you like most if you can
yea purdue the only one i havent been to yet
People at UNC are very friendly, charismatic and outgoing. I kinda get a warm bubbly feeling from being on UNC campus, because the people seem genuinely happy. Definitely not what I've heard about purdue.
yeah thats the main reason why I was considering UNC over purdue
i really really liked the environment and campus when i visited, the most out of all schools ive been to
and i like the location in research triangle too
i also feel like unc as a university is much more prestigious lol
#22 vs 40 something for purdue/umd
UNC is nowhere close to the rep purdue has for STEM
When I think purdue, I think of former astronauts and heads of the department of energy, etc
i was considering umd cuz i got honors college for that so prolly better dorms and opportunity access
I'd pick UNC over Purdue, but that is because I have instate tuition
not sure it'd be so clear for me out of state
purdue unc about 10k diff
i think
but i havent received fin aid offers so idk
i should prolly wait until rd results but i kinda want closure knowing where im going worst case scenario
i also think unc offers a more traditional and complete college experience than purdue
I haven’t gotten it yet but that’s so sad 😞 all I wanted was the sticker fr
is this for UNC CS?
Yep
Tree
from a distance it looks like there's a trash can in the middle
Lol
For those who are unaware- thats a fountain:)
Take a drink on FDOC for a 4.0
Translation the chapel looking thing is a water fountain and there is a UNC tradition to drink from it on the first day of classes in order to get a 4.0
i bet ppl pee in it
It has probably happened at least once, but I don't think it is common
August 2021, someone shit in it :)
Doesnt matter too much bc I don't think the out goes back into the well 💀
so real but for here its drink from the lion fountain to pass your exams
Hey guys
Hello :)
got my honors letter in the mail with the sticker🎊
did anyone else get a book from the honors program?
book?
i got like a packet
i got something called "UNC A to Z" by nicholas graham and ceclia moore
with a bookmark from honors carolina
plus the regular other stuff
@inner quail do yk the dates for new student orientation
Last year or the previous years
were there any sessions in may or august?
I'm sorry I have no idea :(
can anyone that got robertson semifinalist too send me the group interview information?
i already scheduled my group interview but now i cant see the paragraph of information about what to expect and bring. i think it was aobut some object? but i would love to see the original text
how many people got robertson semi
and if you got it, did you get into UNC honors?
yes!
i got into unc honors but havent heard back from the robertson
its nbd
no big deal
robertson
Oh
yeah its not the end of the world
i like other schools better than duke
It’s my only shot at paying for a top 20 😭
Robertson is cool but it's not a huge deal if you don't get it
UNC has interinstitutional enrollment with Duke and other nearby colleges
Duke is also not that much better than UNC
At least considering a significant amount of the student body at each school will attend both schools at some point
Beyond Robertson
There are a ton of ppl who do undergrad at one and grad/med at the other
is that a likely letter
i don’t associate with the likes of you
shit is getting real in the unc chapel hill (2023-2024) discord thread
Hahahaha
I’m here waiting for my Robertson rejection 🥹🤭
but is it actually a likely letter?
No
It’s just saying you moved on to the next phase
i didnt apply for robertson but looking back i sorta regret that it seems cool
nah i didn’t apply but i got an email from an admissions officer saying that the admissions team referred me to and strongly recommends me to apply
i also automatically get an interview
damn what thats crazy 😭😭 congrats
yep 100% a likely
i agree
FOMOs a bitch but having one less decision to worry about is always nice
For me it’s less about the fomo for anything than getting an unfavorable decision
I haven’t heard from them at all so I’m assuming I didn’t get it and that’s ok 😂
I need it
Anyone received any emails yesterday/today from Robertson? I heard they're sending out both rejections and acceptances
nope 🤩
i got an email from them
saying that they're sending out notifications still until the 20th
i thought so too...
like so odd
just reject us omg
ikr
like why make it rolling
i was checking the previous few years' classes
like max 5 internationals per class
really playing my luck with this
aw 😭
btw where on the portal did you see the 12th-19th notifications?
if you scroll to the robertson selection timeline
but now they keep changing the date
like the myvideointerview site or the main site?
main site
mannnn they hurting my soul
btw anyone know if honors carolina boosts odds of getting the robertson?
Idk but I need to know
Can people who got Robertson pm me their stats 😭
The invitation for Robertson scholarship will go out on Feb 18th.
But people are saying they have their interviews before that 💀
Not sure. I received an email from Robertson that my invitation will be sent on the 18th.
Got it, thanks for the insight I'm just a lil stressed
they didnt say this
its BY the 18th
it be may be specific to my case then
I got the same email. It’s not.
Ah yikes, so we're all getting them on the 18th?
Frrr it's killing me atm lmao
Just nonstop checking my email
Me too^^
Wait so it’s coming out then? Or you got accepted and they told you?
No..they said it’s coming out by the 18th as in it’s rolling still
Bruhhhhh ahhhhh
Did you apply to Robertson directly or were you referred by the college?
Directly
I was referred by the college
so the timelines could a little skewed
oos?
did you apply to UNC and/or Duke ?
same here - business major
did u get robertson?
Got selected to semifinal round
did you get UNC honors are assured enrollment?
wait so are yall getting sf notifications and then getting interview invitations?
also, are people getting rejected already? so both sf and rejection notifs are coming out?
Yes people are getting rejected
So
It’s weird
Did u apply ea
@steel gazelle yes, they provide me a link to schedule an interview today.
yes, i did get assured enrollment
and honors as well
Wait really
Aye congrats
ty
So there have been rejectionsv
is there a specific decision date for RD or can 'late march' be any day
Likely during the last full week of March
Possibly the last Friday
whens rd comin out?
Read up immediately above your message :)
lol
has anyone been rejected from robertson?
someone mentioned on reddit that they did i think
hey guys some positive news for everyone from unc regarding robertson
i called and they said the decisions from robertson still aren't finalized, it's still ongoing on a rolling basis
thanks for calling!!!1
they really took their time
i thought they were ready thats why they released
hoping you get good news
Hoping for the best
I asked if honors carolina had any impact, the lady said she's not 100% sure so she couldn't say anything
Did say though that the Robertson application had the biggest impact in any scenario
The people who decide and manage Honors Carolina & Robertson are different so they'll be looking for different things
Features that may be appealing for the honors app may not mean as much for Robertson bc they're evaluated differently by different people with different goals
they just select you for honors college tho there is no application
is information science competitive at unc?
Oos yes v
anyone get a physical mail from UNC saying thankyou for applying
i got the book and then an honors college mail but i didn’t get my general letter yet😭
No
Wait what was the verdict on the Robertson selections?
Did someone contact
I got the book too
Like dang
The book is such nice quality
Idk what I’ll use it for but ok
Not really
Can I tell UNC that I want assured admission to KF or I’ll go to UMich Ross ?
id like to go
But not being assured doesn’t sit right with me
bro 😭
I guess I should do this with Umich but for health policy
I’m still lost
How could they give me a scholarship and honors and reject me from my top two choices for a major
Can I appeal?
Esp bc I want to graduate in two years and saw you have to apply as a first year if you want to be done in 3
Same, honors here too. Oos
I dont know maybe i want to try because no assured for KF is such a deal breaker
I wanna see others thoughts on this
I get this sm
Same for my major
U got a full ride?
We’re in it together 😢
If this is to me, no. I prefer UNC cuz it’s cheaper and I like the school more. But if I can’t do what I wanna do I’ll have to go to Ross
Did any of u guys get a letter from unc in the mail saying something along the lines of “expressing our gratitude for applying and reviewing all applications submitted” ect
Yea I did
did u aplly rd
Yea
Let me go check my mail
They will not give it to you lol
Assured enrollment is given to like 5-6 kids per major
It sounds like UMich's guaranteed major is a better fit for you
Although I'm pretty sure KF has a 50% AR-ish and you can apply a few times if you dont get in on your first app?
At least that's how it is with CS
I think KF is also expanding the major +100 with the physical expansion and such
are you fr
Yeah? Lol
Like assured enrollment is VERY uncommon
Dare I say very rare lol
I know that 3-4 people got assured enrollment for enviro health sci in my year (applied 2020-2021)
I think it’s a bit more common for KF
But you would know more
I'm sure it's more than EHS but definitely not by much
do you know what they look for for assured enrollment?
i didnt know it was that selective
yea
hopefully its for ppl who got in
No
It's not random but there aren't certain types of people who get in either
It's also up to the individual major departments to decide who they give assured enrollment so each dept will admit diff people for diff reasons
hi, question
for ppl applying, does anyone have a mid year report tab on their application page where it asks to submit it
or did anyone have mid years requested
for RD
wait guys how is the process of transferring to UNC like
like is it that hard
I got into the global launch but I dont rlly wanna go to that and I could potentially transfer in the future
What is that
where you go tlike a nother uni in another country and then transfer to UNC
💀
my parents wont letme do that
Oh so like guranteed transfer?
yes but I have to go to like Costa Rica
my parents are not chill with that
What other schools did u get into?
like UW Madison, Northeastern, Purdue, etc.
I am waiting on the UC's and shit
What major?
CS
What’s ur state school
did u get in?
im exploring options rn
I’d choose that over everything
but I just want to know how hard it is to transfe rin
i aint guaranteed to get in though
I mean your already in if you do that program
bro I dont count being accepted into their yield protection program as being "accepted"
but sure
bro theres no way my parentsr gonna let mego though
and since I didn't apply for aid
they kinda control itlol
they kinda want me to just stay in the us so that wont rlly be an option, hence I would prefer transfer since its direct
LMFAO 😭
yeah its kinda dumb
but I have no control over that
since I need their money
fair enough
What is wrong with umass?
If your not a veteran it is pretty close to impossible
they don't release stats for out of state transfer
in state it is like 40% iirc
Not a top 10 school in the state
Not a top 30 public school
Which umass?
Amherst
That is top 10 in the sate
No it isn’t
Harvard, MIT, BU, BC, Babson, Tufts, Northeastern, Amherst, Williams, Wellesley
Are all better
Okay? None, of those are public.
Yeah, it’s still not a top 10 school in state
I think Massachusetts is the only state where it is like that
Which colleges on these list are below umass?
idk where you are pulling your rankings from, because Wellesley, Amherst and Williams
And babson
Those 3 are all better schools than UMass
They are very different schools
They are all LACs except babson
as far as I am aware babson isn't ranked
Babson is not ranked
And Wellesley, Amherts and Williams are ranked in LACs
You can check yourself
Your not right about this and even if you were it wouldn't matter much
I am right
UMass Amherst is a phenomenal school
No, you are not. What is your source?
Yes, and US News is the ranking 90% of people use
That ranking is objectively flawed
All rankings are objectively flawed
no it literally is objectively flawed cause it doesn’t take into account the LAC’s
Well we can both agree that umass amherst is borderline top 10 maybe not even top 10
in the state
it kinda does cause of the private/public designations
What?
When the supposed public ‘flagship’ of the most educated state in the world isn’t top 10 in its own state that’s a problem
Not really
Every college above it is 100% need iirc
it’s the middle class who are going to these colleges overwhelmingly
I'm really struggling to understand the point your trying to make
People are going in to more debt, because according to rankings umass isn't as good as private colleges with billion dollar endowments?
Massachusetts needs to put more money into the public school system
Is what I’m saying
And as a result these downstream effects are happening
Private schools shouldn’t lap your public schools like this
which is ultimately hurting people who are taking on more debt to go to a private school rather than umass
Proof?
Harvard, MIT, etc are not really comparable with UMass
Massachusetts just happens to be home to the best private colleges in the country
Are they not undergrad universities that people can have a choice in between if they were accepted to both?
I bet there’s a lot of people who were accepted to both and took harvard/mit despite the cost
does unc give any aid or scholarships for oos?
This disproves your point
the percent of graduates with debt from MIT/Harvard is much less than UMass
Harvard/MIT will be much cheaper than UMass for that majority of people
Yes, they are universities which someone could choose between. (What the hell do you mean by this?)
Yes
They will cover up to your EFC and most of there merit based scholarships are available for OOS
You guys see the robertson reddit post? Someone apparently got selected like an hour ago
can you link the reddit
Yea this weird
Guess they have a second round
Copium is up again
everyone will be notified by the 20th
iirc you spend your first semester abroad, then start attending UNC that spring
Didnt read context but based opinion
What if my reasoning is that there’s a major at UNC I want to do that I am not able to do at my college
I dont think transferring is impossible but it's definitely easier in state
I think you'd write about this in your essays, like how UNC will help you meet your future goals
The transfer rate is like 20%, but almost all of those are in state or military
Definitely not, I mean plenty of us apply to things with worse odds
any more robertson notifs?
Still haven't heard anything
Same
UNC sent me SEEDS 🥺
Gotta save them until the snow is clear cause I wanna see what is grown 😭
Has anyone heard?
yo i haven’t gotten anything yet 🥲
We are all getting it?
have you gotten anything?
it's midnight here, wish i could
It’s 6…
if you're intl
fyi american colleges come out a lot earlier/later in your local time
so expect anything at any time
yeah i've gotten accustomed to the timezone difference
got a pretty nasty cold keeping me up, so just expecting anything tonight
yea maybe… have yall gotten any emails or notifs outside of the sf and rejections? i only got one when ed results from duke came out
Did you get in?
I am 99% sure they do
Bro where is this email
I think they only do "silent rejections" (e.g. not extending the offer) for things that get decided upon admission to UNC (honors, assured enrollment, global launch, etc.)
i think that’s when all ed decisions were coming out so they were telling ppl to withdraw their app if they got in somewhere else
wait what?
Oh yess
Like they only tell you if you don’t get it if it’s not a specific application
So if you didn’t get honors UNC they don’t explicitly say hello we cannot offer you the honors college
^ Things like acceptance to honors college, assured enrollment, etc. reject by not giving you the offer, rather than saying outright "you did not get X"
But for application based opportunities they should send a letter regardless of decision#
Cmon 7
yea i mean morehead cain sent rejections as a whole official portal letter so idk what’s up with robertson
is it possible there are still sf notifs coming out? or should i lose all hope
Idk
They should email with a rejection tho bc some people have already been emailed a rejection
I’m going to contact if it doesn’t come out by tmr
Yes
yea idk bc i haven’t gotten any updates since the ed email
How do you know
they got me thinking i didn’t even apply to begin with 😭
SAME
I had to go check LOL
Because I applied to scholarships here and went through the process and know that they send out rejection/acceptance letters explicitly for Robertson
okay awesome thank you
Wait are you actually a doctor?
No lol
Oh LOL
3rd year undergrad bio/envsci
At UNC?
Mhm
In state?
Yeah
eastern, piedmont, or mountain area (if you’re comfortable) i love finding nc folks
yasss slay!! i’m eastern so like 2 hrs!
Nice!!
i have a few friends from that area who go to those schools and i wonder what it must be like going to school where you grew up
piedmont
😢
I’m in meck wbu
ouu you’re far i’m in craven
Tbh it wasn't anything special I guess? I went to a big public school and it kinda just felt... normal lol. Most of my academic pressure was from my parents; school was really chill, especially with orchestra
I loved my HS orchestra lol
But some people have gotten it
We can't know why it's not released yet
But it's not past the date where they said they would release it
So I wouldn't stress it
Wow a logical and reasonable thought in A2C?
I try 💔
Yeah lol
I assumed UNC and NCSU were closer since they are both in the UNC system
We also have a lot of faculty and students who go between the schools
Like the UNC harpist is the Duke harpist, lots of faculty swap between the two
And then ofc Robertsons & grad/med school for students
Guys it still has not come out
Today is the last day tho
It’s supposed to come out before the 19th
No
Todays the last day
“All applicants will hear back from us by the 19th of February”
go for a walk
take a nap
watch tv
just get your mind off it
I have done all of these and play Fortnite and finish all my homework
I thought someone here said the 20th, mb
My relatives keep calling me asking oh my god
Someone else mentioned technical issues
😛😛😛😛😛
turn your phone off
Like this is not worth the stress you're putting into this
It is 8 LOL
Yes?
He's just giving you suggestions on things to do to get you to stop obsessing over this 😭
It is just so important 🙁
Yes
why the fuck do you have a curfew at 17/18
It's important and I understand the anxiety, and worrying about it won't make it come out any faster
☹️
Idk I didn’t ask for one
that sounds whack af to me
My parents are 67 so they like me home
Idk
Hopefully I can go to college to have no cerfew 😃
It is spelled curfew btw
Word of advice, don't overdo it once you do have the freedom
Oh sorry thank you
It's exciting to have control and like
It is not worth staying up until 4am for any reason 😭
lol yes I got arrested when I was in 8th grade I know not to go crazy
This tbh
Not actually but like handcuffed
Reminding me of my brother, lol
I had a crazy comeback tho
In middle school (probably 7th grade) he got arrested and caused a lot of issues for no good reason lmao
He's fine now tho
Just drinks and parties a bit
Yes this was me
Yeah that’s me but I never do anything now
I have never been to a party in high school
I've never been arrested
I am an only child
And my parents are retired
Micromanage everything I do
Argh
So excited to go to college
Hopefully you'll get some much-needed room to figure things out on your own in a few months :)
Also where should I live in UNC
my mom is willing to do Granville but I got into honors so I could live at Cobb
Cobb sweeps Granville any day
Why
Granville is dogshit
Why
Oh my
Cobb also has a much better location
What if I am a cheerleader and sorority girl
Cobb is literally insane, my friend was an RA there last year and it's fucking wonderful
They have a huge lounge/game room in the basement and the laundry room is peak
They've got study rooms n shit
When I went to register for housing at Granville the desk lady wouldn’t let me when I told her I got into honors dorms at Cobb LOL
I think some classes can reserve rooms in there but not sure
Yeah there's not really a good reason to go with Granville unless you like spending money
Cobb is close to the pit & Franklin St too
i might rush do you think I will be okay in Cobb
I was in Alexander and we had 3-4 girls rush on my floor iirc
Of course! Anytime
I need parking tho
That sounds so bad
But I am willing to pay for parking
Bc my dad is in and out of hospital so I need to be able to come home fast
Do you think I can find parking somewhere?
Yeah, RR lot
Okay I will look into that
You'll probably have to bus to get there in a reasonable time but
What’s ur major?
Yes expected
You'll have to apply for it as a freshman
Since they're pretty strict abt no freshmen having cars
But for something like family medical needs I'm sure they won't fight you on it
I'm biology BS, environmental science quantitative energy systems BS :)
No lol
I'm interested in agtech (plant genetics, GMOs, sustainable agriculture), biotech (biofuels, precision fermentation), and energy (data, stats, and sci comm)
I'm doing a dual degree with the envsci major and the MSIS in environmental informatics at UNC
I'm about to finish my certificate in applied data science and have loved doing classes through the School of Information and Library Science so I'm pretty excited for the MSIS :)
I am looking at alternative programs in case something goes wrong with the MSIS though lol
Like maybe Crop Science at NCSU
@inner quail btw forgot to update but rejected from morehead-cain finalist round 💔 👹 it's okay tho we move to better things
Aw damn :( gg go next bb <3
You made it to semifinalist tho that's crazy
frfr 🫡
Be proud of yourself :D
mhmm
the interviews were actually like insane
because for finalists they had like a group round and a solo round for interviews (spread out) and it was
idk probably the coolest interview i've been a part of
even if i didn't get it i'm still super honored to have been a finalist and to have met many cool ppl
Did you apply for Robertson?
nope
Ah
did anyone else get mail from unc
that they recieved your application
it means nothing lol
this school loves to thank their applicants for some reason
they just recieved it
was it something like this
https://imgur.com/a/ixumRyB
yeah
oh ok
yeah it's probably nothing, like that person said above
Is it possible to get good dorms as a non-honors student
Yes
But it depends on what you mean by "good" as well
Some dorms only suck because the people on your floor/in your suite suck
Guys I am losing it
why
Bc I did not get it
sorry for their loss
You are the best
Robertson is TOUGH; remember that y'all have made it so far, and that in itself is a great accomplishment 💕
@inner quail how difficult is it to be placed in a residential learning program
I’m interested in the BLUE one
I'm not sure, I'll ask around
manifesting unc acceptance day 1 🤞
ill join you 🤝
ill join you as well
it worked for UF so might as well
manifesting is a scam
its so out of ur hands
I won't complain abt more activity here though :)
If anyone, whether admitted or waiting for a decision, has questions about UNC, please don't hesitate to ping!!!
hahah ofc
i talked to the unc health care policy major director about how i shld apply to major in that since i want to be out in 2 years due to my aa
and they said the deadline passed 😭
so basically im screwed and have to stick with public policy
Were they addressing it as if you were a transfer applicant tho?
I don't know if you could grind out HPM reqs in a year but you could def still grad early and do HPM
Public policy is still a great major tho
I'm wondering this bc you mentioned being done in 2 years and having an AA, which could've made them think like "oh this is a transfer student" and not first year
HPM is super inflexible too compared to public policy what on earth
Not to shit on HPM but from a perspective of doing the stuff you want and personalizing a major
HPM has none of that 💀
Pub policy has a lot of cool electives for the major (these ones are health related but they have stuff from BUSI, ECON, POLI, SOCI, etc. as well):
- ANTH 312: From the Equator to the Poles: Case Studies in Global Environmental Change
- ANTH 318: Human Growth and Development
- ANTH 319: Global Health
- ANTH 441: The Anthropology of Gender, Health, and Illness
- ANTH 470: Medicine and Anthropology
- GEOG 541: GIS in Public Health
- GEOG 542: Neighborhoods and Health
(I love major mapping & planning)
yess i forgot to add but they thought i was a transfer student when i recieved a response. i responded saying im a high schooler and they didnt reply ever since 😭
woah omg
these classes seem so cool!!!!
i have to do more research
pub pol isnt bad either but i really really liked hpm
Yeah
You've got some time
I'm sure you already have the HPM prereqs so itd be pretty easy to apply as soon as apps open methinks
next year 😭
Yeah
That's still pretty solid tho
Eh
Well
I was going to say "biggest issue is getting all the other degree reqs/gen eds out of the way for early grad" but idk if you've looked at what you'd have to do
Since you'll have the AA
(This means I'd be willing to help anyone with creating a course map if admitted students are interested)
@inner quail your time to shine /hj https://www.instagram.com/stories/uncadmissions/3311360970697267938
I was looking at their admissions ambassadors thing
Might consider this but then anyone who sees uncadmissions knowing my discord will know me
Maybe it’s diff bc you’re active in more parts of the server but we have someone in the UF thread who works in admissions as a student
If you have qs maybe they could help
Forgot to send earlier but sunset at dinner (~5:30)
manifesting unc acceptance day 2 🤞
where is that
also do any freshman get 4 person suites (2 doubles)
I’m guessing most freshmen will get 8 person suites with 4 doubles right
also which of the three is “better”
Craig, eringhaus or hinton James
All the suites are mid-south campus but I'm sure we have hall styles aside from Cobb
I know Alexander was a first year dorm but idk about now
This whole quad is first year only
Very nice location
@inner quail how does the honors college housing work? like what are the benefits and size and stuff like that?
honors college housing is in cobb i believe. it's a super nice dorm building, hall style iirc, has a lot of very nice amenities
i never livedin cobb but my friend was an RA there last year and gave me a tour
laundry room is very nice, study rooms, big lounges
i think there's an upright piano in one of the study rooms
When does rd normally come out?
manifesting unc acceptance day 3 🤞
i don’t know if i asked yet but are roommates required in dorms or not?
wdym?
singles are very hard to come across (and i dont think there would be any singles in cobb except for the RA) but you dont need to have a roommate in mind already
okkk ty! just wondering 😭
if I'm a us citizen do I need to even fill out the english proficiency waiver
no lol
Yeah I’m p sure they’re all south campus (main ones at least)
I saw eringhaus is right next to stadiums
Yeah
All the good dorms are north campus 💪
All suites are south & mid campus
Mid campus being stuff like Carmichael iirc?
manifesting unc acceptance day 4 🤞
manifesting ur UNC acceptance day 1
manifesting unc acceptance day 5 🤞
are there even any north campus freshman dorms
Yeah
There's the quad adjacent to Coker Arboretum thats entirely first year
And Cobb
does unc give good aid to families that make like 140k
You should run a net price calculator
manifesting unc acceptance day 6🤞
manifesting ur unc acceptance day 2 (missed one 😫 )
Yes
UNC will give you CoA minus EFC
in aid
you can see that on their calculator
ur good manifesting ur yale acceptance day 1
yes it'd be fun
idk what advice to offer
bc nobody asks
HOWEVER!
i love giving advice
so like literally if yall have ANY questions i beg
omg ok i love asking questions
@inner quail do u think an info sci major - stats minor combo would give me enough technical skills for a data analysis type position?
i think so! i know pure IS majors tend to do pretty okay with landing data analysis positions, and my advisor recommended i take more stats courses in prep for my MSIS (since the stats classes will help w marketability iirc)
i think IS/stats double major may also be beneficial for data analysis
that sounds good 👍 is there a limit to classes overlapping btwn major and minor since it seems like a stats minor would be mostly covered under the infosci electives at least at first glance
which would be nice for getting more elective slots lol
For minors I remember that over 50% of the classes have to be exclusive to the minor (so if a minor is 5 classes, 3 must be unique to the minor)
