#UNC-Chapel Hill (2023-2024)
1 messages · Page 6 of 1
is that bad indicator for other schools like gtech
Its not. Don't let these things upset u. There are a million other colleges u can go to, dont worry about it. U can always transfer as well. Keep ur head up
no
admissions are so fucking random
i would not take a rejection from here as a sign you'll get rejected from other schools
can't believe she got a full ride tho, huge w
ok lol im just happy i got in cause unc is the only school that knows i dropped a science class cause turns out taking like 4 science classes in one sem is not good idea
r u sure....
Bro I got deferred from my safety it’s joever for me Fr
Did anyone get the Blue Sky Scholars😩
it aint dawg
u need to chill
:3
got in but mo scholarships so 💔 dk how to feel
time 2 pray that thomas wolfe wants me so fucking bad
i got in
I GOT IN YESSSS
you gotta remember how random admissions are, especially for competitive schools. unc is competitive, they also have a strict percentage of students from nc that they have to meet. ik people who got rejected from very prestigious schools just to end up at an ivy
generally oos aid from publics is bad yes
i regreat not applying early but also my regular essays were WAY better
i know rejection sucks, it really does. but you gotta hold your head up & remember that you are an extremely talented student and applicant. if unc cant see that, thats on them, but some other amazing school will recognize that
got waitlisted oos
rejected oos lol
the oos tuition is too expensive so i would never go there (cope)
wiat on the acceptance letter do you see the major you were admitted for?
i didn’t for me
wait im hella confused i applied for cs but i hear that you dont get in automatically
can someone like briefly explain how it works cause im super confused
did i get into unc for cs or smth else
okay same
definitely wouldnt
the admit rate for oos was lower
so its like other ivies
where do i find
it's like kenan flagler at unc, u apply for the cs program
generally 70-80% acc rate
u'll get in if ur competent
nicee
What’s the acceptance rate for OOS
how do i know if i got into my program or any scholarships?
congrats yall!!
check the "decisions" tab
mine just says i got honors carolina but doesnt say my academic program or anything
upvote!!
gl 🩷🩷 just rmemeber u can never predict decisions. rooting for u!!
@candid scaffold i got in with 2.7, r u proud
What da fack
10%
😦
!!
How does UNC honors work? Would it have said it on my letter if I got in?
no option for waitlist? 😭
Me don’t wanna check
it should be in the decisions tab
Because I am lazier than a fish
no worries that's all good
u can still apply for the schools ur interested if/when u commit
dwdwdw
alr
congrats!!
Outright rejected damn
Stats?
Around 6-7%
me too!
I’m sorry Han 🫶🫂
Waitlist and rejection are basically same for unc
Uh 😭
😭😭😭😭😭😭
do you know what it is for internationals?
1%
Considering that unc intl student ratio is only 6 percent of total students
did anyone get waitlisted?
It should be lower than oos
Me
I don’t wanna check because I got rejected by Duke
as a legacy and early decision
same with my friend dont sweat
Guess just do defer 😭
he was a weapon but got fucked
Hey it’s ok!
dont worry dude, remember the decision was made some time ago
breathe!!
^^
I am 99.99% sure I got rejected by UNC
America is unc a top choice now?!!
You never know
Out of state I have no chance
I believe so :)
Oh man
Am I late to this chat
a bit 😭
I was driving home lmfao
dr. squirmy i have a question about double majoring at UNC
so i got assured enrollment to both the MEJO and Info Sci programs (yippee!!), can i apply for both schools at the same time when im a sophomore?? or would I have to work that out with each school and advisors and stuff
i mean it's gonna be convoluted regardless but i was js wondering how that would work
I think you should be able to apply to both. I would check with your advisors to make sure you can complete both majors in time but otherwise you should be fine :)
okayyy!! thank u sm :D
Congrats on MEJO/INLS!! I started getting involved with SILS last spring and havent regretted it one bit
I cant speak for Hussman/MEJO but INLS is so lovely
TYTY im so excited 😭 even if i don't end up committing i'm super happy to have the opportunities
Wait what does it mean if it doesnt say anything about my major i wanna study?
i don't think it says anything abt ur major in general
if u applied for special programs then it'll say smth but otherwise nah
Wait so if i just applied neuroscience on commonapp that means Im in already basically?
It'll only say if you got assured enrollment
Yes. Neurosci isnt a major you apply to
The only majors you have to worry abt "re-applying" for are pre-professional programs (business, journalism, info sci, ehs, biostat, nutrition, hpm) and CS
100 percent
And you should've been told on your decision if you got assured enrollment
Wait wait wait
doesnt say anywhere
America hater coming to UNC?
🤡
🙏 TYYYYYwait what about premed?
Premed isnt a major
Oh okokokok thats good !!
We have premed ppl across like 15 depts lol
Omg very exciting!!
Biggest premed majors are bio, chem, math, and phys iirc
What program did you apply for assured enrollment?
So basically im all good rn if I study neuro and wanna go into premed ? sry this is new to me lmao
What’s assured enrollment?
Yeah
Yeah. There are lots of premeds here and advising will help you get all the med school reqs for sure
i j got in
Yesss thank you !!!!!
bio stats and health policy, public policy was number 3
Do u also know anyone that is a Blue Sky Scholar? Trying to see what some of these mean
For certain majors (#1135726736525504632 message) you have to apply to the program as a sophomore usually. With assured enrollment they basically "save" you a spot during the app process
it didnt say what specific one i won it just said i was that
mk!
dyk if i got rejected from assured enrollment if its not on my portal?
CONGRATS EVERYONE!!!🎉
duke deferal --> unc acceptance
If you got assured enrollment it would've said it somewhere
if it's not under decisions -> special opportunities then yeah
great LOL
kinda funny
Its ok tho. Assured enrollment is just a reassurance thing more than anything
yeah thats ok !
I think the real competitive programs are busi and HPM I think
hi r there merit schollys for RD applicants
How competitive is honors oos
I would assume pretty competitive
Honors is generally competitive
But idk if they have to balance in state/OOS for honors or not
Mack Brown is older than saban and still isn’t retired. Buddy is washed all I’m gonna say. Peace out all and congrats to those who got in. Have fun on the hill
Also wht r these other programs yall r getting into like chancellors
Were there extra essays for those?
I’m clueless af
oh damn
i feel proud altho unfortunately the acceptance without a scholarship is useless unfortunately
I haven’t checked my status yet
international business accepted can you still apply for a scholarship
I’m scared as heck
Good luck
Worth it if your parents can afford it imo
Also I don't know where the 1% stat came from 💀
I guessed
SQUIRMY
my sis got into unc with a full ride
YOOOOOOOOOOO
HOLY SHIT CONGRATS TO HER
thats bonkers wtf
yes and honors carolina!!!!! so crazy
I'll be real, I don't think I've met a single person at UNC here on a full ride 😭
Dude that's exciting
I KNOW
girl who is ur sister, didjt u say she also got into mich or smth
Ohh
i dont even know what to say im so shocked
YOOOOO THATS INSANNEEEEE
MERIT FULLRIDE???
Roberston scholars?
KVD HOW DID UNICH GO
yes they got into umich ea and unc with an academic scholarship
i just realized it says "the better blue" here
i am so approving of this
(i got in 2 years ago)
WOWWW. that's so epic. tell them congrats!!!
congratssss
Deferred lol someone in my school who applied ross got both umich and unc happy for him bc he might actually go lmao
Did u get in?
aww I’m sorry gtown solos
Nah im fine lol
i didn't ea
IM SCAREEDDEE
they got some scholarship that would give them in-state rates for study abroad+other fees not covered in the full ride. no name in her letter tho
Holy hell
That's awesome
you cannot predict decisions. 100%. decisions are not linear— just bc you get into one doesn't mean you'll get into another, etc etc. gl on unc
UNC doesnt want them, UNC needs them
Athletes in a nutshell
exactly
mine is closer to linear for some reason I really don't know but my case is also distinctively not normal
if i cant make it to the chancellors science scholars thing in february for finalists is there another date they can accommodate? or should i just email them
Just email
ok ty
Accepted oos cs
Wtf
Accepted oos neuroscience
ahh me too! does it say neuroscience anywhere for u?
no it doesnt, that was my first choice on common app though
same ! congrats!!!
Does anyone know where to find financial aid if it’s even out?
it’s not out cause fafsa hasn’t been sent yet i think
Aight thanks
Fwiw the major you put on your app will be your major UNLESS you want to do a pre-professional major (which neuro is not) @zenith girder @ancient valley
nah I don't think it's ou
OOS is so impossible man😭
they said they don't get fafsa till after jan 31
does anyone know if I can make my accounts and everything without binding myself to the school?
they don't lol I'm from a third world country
Yea :( without any aid I don't think UNC is worth the debt
Did anyone get in?!
Yes! Check pins
I don’t know how
But
3.7 GPA
1360
OOS
accepted with honors
Swear to Gos
God
12 APs
fr I was shocked too
I didn’t even get honors at my state school with a 70 percent ar
MY SIS DID RILEY
YESSS
yeah I got in!!!
👋 👋
Congrats to everyone !!
Im sorry to those who didnt get in, just know that a rejection is a redirection and not the end ❤️
is cs direct admit for unc?
For anyone who applied, do they have CS for assured enrollment?
Nvm checked and they don't
So no
Not direct admit for CS
But CS application is mostly "do you have the prereqs for CS? cool ur in"
i heard its rly overcrowded at unc for cs
umd/purdue vs unc which do u think is smarter? all oos
Has anyone gotten a merit scholarship from UNC? Do you know what they look for in students in giving those out?
- Which one has the program that fits your interests and career goals more?
- Which one is in a location that you like the best?
- What other aspects are most important to you in a college? Which school meets those the best?
but purdue/umd is objectively ranked higher for cs
Ranking doesn't mean anything
Like legit for employers they don't give one fuck
Especially in RTP
unc def best location
They see "UNC" on your resume and it's enough lmfao
yea i like the research triangle aspect
my only gripe with unc is that declare major pretty late
Wdym?
It's by soph year latest
But you can declare your first sem if you want
Oh wait CS
You can apply once you finish the prereqs
id rather go to a school where cs is direct admit tbh
I mean it's completely your choice
bevause im scared ab overcrowding
But I will say CS admissions are more of a formality
Kris (head of CS dept) really does not want to reject anyone who has genuine interest in completing the program
Which includes people without prior CS experience
The process is to basically weed out people who won't commit to the major lol
But again
If direct admit is something that's really important to you, there's no shame in picking another school
I'm obviously going to advocate for UNC bc (1) I love this school and (2) this is the UNC thread
But in the end there's no shame in whatever you choose
They're all fantastic choices
i rly rly like unc the most tbh
ill have to do more research once the rest of my results come in
Good choice :)
Has anyone gotten a merit scholarship from UNC OOS? Do you know what they look for in students in giving those out?
my twin did!
Do you know what they look for in students in giving those out? Or what strengths your twin's application had if you're comfortable with sharing
Yeah and I have no idea
if your comfortable sharing what do you think are the strengths of your app?
They aren't super transparent beyond what they give on the website ngl 💀
It's just like "do good 👍"
Oh probably my activities!! They related a lot to my major! Essays were kind of ok, not the best
And I didn’t have perfect grades or anything
i have no idea what they look for. my twin had a pretty high gpa, but also did a ton of community service work. we also live in a rural area so that might've given her an edge. i would say just be yourself in your essays and show your fit for UNC
(unrelated) I didn't realize my program had assured enrollment LOL
(Fwiw I'm doing fine and applying for the MSIS rn)
(So don't be bummed if you don't get assured enrollment)
Did you have to apply to the scholarship separately? or did they just give it to you?
Oh yeah I figured I would offer it now
If any admits have questions about ANYTHING UNC, feel free to ping or send here and I'll do my best to answer <3
Majors, classes, campus, weather, local area, food, housing... whatever you can think of
Hi
they just gave me it lol
What is the Russian Language Flagship Program?
Read the page, but can't understand it at all.
i may take u up on this in the spring 🫡
where do i find scholarships if i got any?
How is the housing and dining halls??
click decision on ur portal, scroll down and it will tell u to click a button for ur scholarship
They should let you know somewhere in the portal
Any specific questions abt housing/dining halls?
Generally housing will vary mostly based on physical location and the people on your floor/in your suite
whats ur personal opinion of ehringhaus 💀
Living on South campus is pretty common esp for freshmen just because that's where most of the housing is on campus. It's much more suburban and spread out than North/Historic campus, and they're all suite style
I have only lived on North campus (Connor Community >>>>>>) but I have heard.... mixed things
THANK U
my ermmmm ex girlfriend lives in ehringhaus LOL it's a mess i visited once
thats all i js wanted to be validated 💀
LMFAO
wats the best food that they have on campus @inner quail
This is pretty tough! There's a ton of fantastic food options, especially since Franklin St is on the north border of campus
CHECK
Ooooo wats the best like sushi or korean food options
OOOH we've got good shit
Lenoir on North Campus has Bento Sushi, which is my usual go-to
OMG BENTO SUSHI⁉️ that sounds so bus
We've got a ton of stuff on Franklin too
bonchon is pretty good though i know there's better places
Spicy 9 has more sushi options but being on Franklin its more expensive
expensive 💔 it's good tho
HMMM got me twitching🤤
It's where I usually go for sushi, although Bento Sushi has some crunchy tempura rolls that I'll grab from time to time
lowk like if ur into asian food then ur gonna like UNC lol
there's a solid amt of places
Omg wait did UNC send u guys an acceptance letter in mandarin or the language u speak?its so cute

Honestly it's worth it to just go to Franklin and walk
i just got mine in english but that's bc i only marked english 💀 so
kbbq literally sounds like a dream
Honestly the greater RTP area has so much good food
I know we've got KBBQ and hotpot stuff closer to Raleigh/Durham/Cary
Wait btw are u committed to UNC or are u gonna wait for other decisions?
waiting for ivy week
it's my top choice rn tho
NOT TO SAY THERE ISNT THIS STUFF AT UNC
I'm just more familiar with RTP as a whole since I'm the only one of my friends at UNC (the rest are closer to north Raleigh)
And lived here my whole life
RTP is Research Triangle Park! It's technically a small area off of 40 (like just west of where 540-40 intersect) but generally people use "RTP area" to refer to the Triangle, which is like, Raleigh-Durham/Chapel Hill-Cary
This is good enough lol
I actually met with someone who works for the Research Triangle Foundation the other day. Talking about how over the next 20 or so years the actual RTP business park is going to be less corporate and more... friendly lol
Which is pretty exciting
Just are they good
Ah ok see they get
Vary*
Certain residence halls & dining locations are certainly better than others
And will vary a bit based on personal pref
Oh ok and opinions on chapel hill’s location, being in the south/coast
I love it here
Ngl
It does get pretty hot during the summer because yk south & humid
But for being city it's still very green (although the green-not green divide on campus is more east-west campus lmao)
(I'm working on a research project for the school on urban heat & trees rn)
omg slay
Here's some stuff from a field trip to Campus North (met with UNC foresters & the guy in charge of the Botanical Gardens)
loveee
Like it looks pretty lame but it's really cool to see the stuff they do up there with trees that fall/are removed around campus
Polk Place, in front of the Wilson Library
beautiful
franklin st
Davis Library, coming from Joyner Hall
That's roughly where I took [this picture](#1135726736525504632 message) LMAO
Right on the corner between Dey and Wilson
omg wait that checks out
Omg 😳
you got it w uw madison, it's in an hourish
a lil less
wait its confirmed?
i remember walking out of library around there LOL
when is admitted students day? Do they pay for admitted students to visit?
speculated (hoping)
Wilson scares me ngl
It's so fancy
I feel like if I walk in there in my tshirt and sweats I'm violating some sort of rule
!!!!
Related, there's a table in the South Building that the UNC foresters made for the chancellor that has 3 bullet holes in it
I feel like I have to mention it because the woman we talked to said "it's okay, you can walk through the South Building"
jesus 😭
It's just "fancy important building is intimidating to just hang out in"
If they didn't want people in there, they would make sure of it LOL
yea true 💀
womp womp
omg i’m literally from north carolina i should know this lmao

Happens to the best of us. Try not to sweat it
W
congrat
comp lit and bio!!!
mejo and info sci ^_^
That's so exciting!!! I love the CMPL department & BIOL has been great too <3
INLS is super fun too
I'm taking INLS 161 right now and finishing up a certificate in the department
If Dr. Bergquist is still teaching INLS 161 and you come here, I absolutely recommend taking it with him
medical anthro and bio :)
Man, was really hoping id get into unc
:(
I suppose it was ecs since my academics were above the median
College admissions sure are hard
Ooh very exciting!! I know someone who graduated last year doing med anth <3 super fun!
Absolutely. Try not to let them get you down too much<3

For any bio majors - I am a bio major, so I can answer a lot of questions, particularly with electives and BIOL 101 (since they did change the core for CO26 onward lol)
I wanna study Econ & Public Policy
neuro
@inner quail hi do they pay for admitted students to visit campus??
Not sure tbh
HI IS ANYONE HONORS COLLEGE
i got in! idk if ur asking for a current honors student tho
did any one get global scholars prgoram?
i got rejected
its fine i am international anyways
I got in, I am out of state but got an in state merit scholarship and the honors college ✔️
idk what the acceptance rate is for unc chapel hill for international students
8% acceptance (out of state) 10% honors college
yes very low indeed
Bro is going to ignore a UNC acceptance bc they're convinced they're rejected
8% is crazy 💀
Last year, the UNC out of state acceptance rate was 8% compared to an in-state rate of 43% (2023)
guys has anybody does C Step
no lol
c step its UNC's
transfer pathway program and shit
Oh nvm
dirty minded
does anyone know what residence hall chancellor science scholars get
they gave me merit aid (almost full financial aid for 4 years)
is aid out yet?
how do I check
i got accepted today
AYE
have u been able to get onyen to work
How do you see this
I’m in Carolina connect
But idk how to make an email
I was accepted today also and I got a separate email with the information about the merit aid
So you just got the email?
was it a scholarship?
I just can’t figure out how to make my Carolina email
same
i dont even know if aid is even out yet
i think we are supposed to wait for an email
@inner quail real i made it
Told you :) welcome aboard
Congrats!!
neuro@unc lets goo!!!!
10 percent of them got honors that’s crazy
@inner quail do you have any reviews/feedback abt neuro 👀
Ayeeee neuro too!!!
congrats!!
It's solid. Definitely a degree that sets you up for grad school well. Pretty chem heavy (for additional reqs) , so be prepared for that :)
Thanks you too!🎊🎉
(Or med school)
Omgggg wait it’s chem heavy😭i cant deal with chem again
jkjk
(what if you want to work in industry after instead 👀, like deepmind sorta thing)
istg organic chem💀
Orgo 1&2
Might be worth considering a double major then methinks
STOP I dont wanna think about that😭
Bio/quant bio might be good for that
Is it good idea to double major in bio and neuro or no?
yea sounds life-sucking tbh
I mean, I think it depends on your career goals
And what you're willing to put up with lol
btw is there a startup/entrepreneurship scene at unc
i’m thinking of going into premed but i wanna study neuro as well
But I'm not involved so I wouldn't know details
gpa go brrrr
Tbh for premed you don't have to be a bio major. You'll be taking BIOL 101+L, BIOL 103, and BIOL 220 anyways as NSCI (not sure how it fits with premed reqs tho)
Chem reqs for NSCI will have you prepped for biochem
And that should cover prereqs in terms of chem
@ancient valley omg congrats
squirmy btw what are your plans after graduation
merit scholarships, giving me in state prices for out of state… - 8K a year.
Grad school, since I'm in a dual degree program :) I'll be getting my MSIS at UNC if everything works out. After I'll likely work in some sort of quantitative position, probably looking at EPA or energy jobs, but also open to agtech/biotech :)
cool!
Most of my envsci work is in energy, most of my bio work is quantitative bio and genetics (hoping to do more work on plant genetics)
So we will see how it goes :)
How did you find your chem classes? My APchem teacher told me to avoid UNC but I've gotten mixed reviews from others
If youre premed I would advise taking chem at UNC. Med schools will see that you avoided taking them at UNC and will hold that against you compared to similar applicants who took them at UNC.
That being said... I've been doing my chem reqs at CC and NCSU
Idk for other grad programs but I just know from talking to Dr. Shemer, premeds should try taking them here if possible
(Pretend I didnt shit on unc chem bc I dont want to scare the kids)
Not premed, want to go to grad school (bad idea right
) and seriously considering NCSU for chem major
BTW you're scaring the kids (I am the kids)
NCSU will probably be easier on your soul for chem ngl
Our chem is really rigorous and has that rep but it also means we have great chem graduates
Not that NCSU has worse chem students its just different
Is it rigorous in a good way or in a stupid way? (if you know what I mean)
I also got into CWRU if that matters
Depends on who you ask and which profs you get lol
It gets a lot better once you get through the premed weeders tho (101, 102, 241, 261)
Honestly if you like chem and put in the effort it's not going to kill you
So you would recommend I still go to UNC over state?
The other thing is I think I would like living in Raleigh more but UNC technically is more prestigious
What’s ur major?
I am BME and pre med and I am choosing UNC bc looks better for med school, especially w honors program
I think anyway
is getting into the honors program vs regular a big deal
like would not getting into the honors program make chapel hill not worth it
Definitely not
Chem but not premed
But it is very nice for the additional resources and getting to choose classes early
Ahhhhhhhhh hmmm
Idk but I would go chapel hill unless you think it would be too rigorous
Also I have no idea what ur preferences are or ur life is like
Thx for your help BTW:)
Honors kids get to choose classes earlier so you could maybe get those better profs?
I heard housing is diff for honors kids does anyone know if that is true?
I heard they have to take random classes though
Yeahhhh idk
Idk if it’s worth it I need to look more into it
Wonder if it would be worth it for med school applications
I’m also a pre-med, the people I’ve asked said it doesn’t really but its just a convenience thing to pick classes early and all
and bragging rights I suppose
Some of the honors versions of classes suck tbh
I know that's how it was for BIOL 101H
I'm a junior at unc
My display name was a troll lol
im better than u
Figured I would change it back for a while to not confuse ppl lol
Fwiw you can graduate with honors distinction without being in honors. I would look at the requirements for honors and consider if you're okay with the additional work rather than impact on med school apps
UNCP kinda goated
whats a good stem premed major at unc
unc alums is the honors carolina experience noticeably different from that of the average student?
Any of them work tbh. I've seen med students who did med anth
The major itself doesnt matter as much as getting the prereqs that med schools look for
And experience
time for me to make the ncsu or unc cs decision (unless uw Madison or umd cost changes)
unc cs has better name recognition but ncsu cs has better program
my friend did land a job at amazon from unc cs though
Interesting..
unc cs also isn’t guaranteed
Also is it normal to not have looked at my decision for UNC yet?
IM STILL SCARED AF
Nah but unc lowk
So like
….
Not even confetti
every other college gave me confetti
Unc was just like congrats!
Yeah
I only had one school with confetti
How hard is it to declare cs
ncsu
Like if u finish ur prereq r u guaranteed cs?
not sure but unc doesn’t admit by major
kinda annoying but I don’t think it’s super hard (yet)
It’s like 70% chance
for a spot
Bruh that’s lowkey messed up
before u apply into their cs program u have to take specific classes
Usually those r the ones everyone fights for
Imo if you indicated interest in ur application for cs u should have priority
For those classes
yeah I think u do have priority
Wait rly
I’m not sure
I’m honestly considering state just because of their whole cs situation
Otherwise unc would’ve been the choice
Why doesn’t unc do direct admit lile everyone else
idk
Liberal arts school
I applied economics major
But I plan to switch to business
So i can go into kenan flagler
I see
No confetti is what scares me
No confetti = rejection
3/4 of my acceptances today had no confetti
idk I heard it’s really easy to switch
at unc
They give u a chance to at orientation too
one of the schools I didn’t even realize I got accepted and thought I was deferred
BRUH ME WITH UMICH
until I looked at it again
WTF IS THEIR LIKE you’ve been selected
I didn’t even check UNC status because I’m a scared cat
Bruh umich was a bloodbath for my school
I just assumed I got rejected
Because this years 6.4% acceptance rate OOS is ludicrous
I got in umich and idek how
Source?
💀
damn
worse than Cornell
oos for umich but in state for unc
I got “postponed”
umich really think they special using their own terms
I prolly won’t end up going to umich
I’d rather go unc but the other two r ranked higher
One lucky wiatlisted person will get a spot
Umich is way too expensive oos
Nah that’s robbery
Add 15-20k to the tuition
Might as well go to an ivy at that point
wait tf tuition is 70k??
Lowkey if u got umich oos u can prob bag an ivy
unc is 9k tuition for me but after all the boarding and textbooks and stuff it’s around 20k
20-25k
per year
also no aid
Yeah
Bc family makes “high income”
that sounds like a good deal to me
bc they’re kinda poor
I mean the full ride ones
like the park
like park
ye
I did both
but i don’t think i got park
yeah that’s what it was
I didn’t get past semi for park
Did u get into unc
yea
r u oos
Instate
Yeah
cheap + semi prestigious
I would consider it for sure
But if I got any sort of scholarship for either id pick that one
otherwise it’d be a choice of is it worth it
same
😭
pros of Purdue: literally like 100k engineering/cs graduate salaries
Cons: can i make it out alive
ngl purdue isn’t horribly expensive for a oos school
the only thing that stops me from unc is that cs isnt direct admit
but yea that the problem
Purdue is notorious for weeding out
Are you oos
yes
hmm
the location seems kinda depressing too
I won’t be able to make it
unc ch has the perfect location
how about umd vs unc?
i got umd hc but i still lowkey prefer unc
both r similar price
wait similar price?
yea im oos for both
both total to 60k for everything
Ah
is ur whole school going
I mean career wise I feel umd would be more tempting than unc
but other stuff unc 100%
i mean unc probably has good career opportunities too
bruh i loved it
i mean yea if ur local its diff
for me it checks every single box
except for the damn cs stuff
cuz i dont want to take a risk of not getting the major
never had canes before
I went recently p good
might have to try it
All I eat at is like

So fr
All the more reason I wanna get acce- slapped for being racist
Tbh the faster you check the faster you can recover or celebrate
Real
I don’t wanna spoil my sleep
Good luck 🔥🔥
Thank you!!
whats the chance of getting off waitlist for UNC
Ehhh low
rippppp
unc’ 2028’s insta looks concerning, there were no people of color
Any current students know how diverse the school is
You would be surprised how little you're going to see people you knew in HS
It's worth considering but these HSers don't know shit about how it is rn post application introduction lmao
CS situation is MUCH better now
Ok that makes things a lot better
ig now I’ll just wait to see if I get the ncsu full scholarship (goodnight)
Not. If you have the prereqs and don't half ass the application you're fine lol
alright good thank you
Yeah np
I understand people being worried about CS since it's not direct admit and like
It's so much better now
I also want to add- while I understand a lot of people would prefer CS direct admit, there's a reason why UNC doesnt have any direct admit programs for majors
They want ppl to explore in their gen eds and figure out with experience what major they want to pursue
I feel like saying that I should add that assured enrollment is not direct admit
If you get assured enrollment and change your mind on the major, you are not obligated to continue with that major
Yeah makes sense
I think the whole thing a bit worrying for people at unc is that there’s a chance you don’t even get into cs after being there for a year
Following up on this
I think there's a little bit of a sampling bias since more fratty/outgoing types are the ones to usually post on their college ig page 1st
idk if that sounds fucked up or not
fwiw, i think it's decently diverse as an asian male
Something like 30-40% of the undergrads are POC
30 percent???
Do you know if there’s a decent black population, is the administration not nice towards POC
i mean it's not great
yeah 😭
Admin's meh
Thanks for letting me know they all looked like they were in a frat or sorority 💀
yea lol
felt like an outsider looking at that insta
i'd prolly post on the unc reddit page to get the pov from black students if i were u
Thanks
also what’s ur fav thing about the school
i'd say the relatively fun atmosphere (as a non premed ) and the amount of activities in and around the area. Rushing Franklin after beating Duke is always a blast. The wlb as a cs major is decent. There's a lot of opportunities in around Research Triangle. Most of my friend's internships are in the area
I think the lack of an engineering school makes the uni less "nerdy" than it's peers. You can consider that good or bad
Yea fwiw, only like 16% of UNC is in greek life which is far lower than Duke
It's just that hella ppl look like they are
Very very good
Amazing news
idk if I’d fit in bc I don’t like sports
yea i'd def tour if u can
I love working out and playing them but not like basketball or watching them yk?
see if u vibe w it or not
Def will
I’m sure you’ll like it
I’ve been there a few times and it’s a great place
I saw a few photos of the campus and it’s so pretty omg 🥰🥰
yeah it’s a fun place
I got a few friends there and they love it
not yet want to see all my options
but based on EA this is looking like my best choice
not the best school I got into but the most reasonable for the price
100 percent the same, I already know I can’t afford umich
what’s the best school u got into
👀
Oh wow congrats!!
ty! Congrats on umich!
For sure
It is PWI but will vary based on who you surround yourself with
Certain courses/majors might lean certain ways bc of demographic interests (ex. I found that not a lot of white people take AAAD courses)
I know you weren't asking me, but I love the green spaces and natural features
Also North campus is super walkable and almost every professor I've had has been super kind and understanding<3
For those considering UNC vs other schools, or those who want a head start on major planning
Please check out the UNC Catalog to see what your major requirements are!! It's really important (imo) that you have an understanding of the courses you have to take for your degree, especially when comparing between schools
If anyone needs help understanding the current gen ed curriculum, I can do my best to explain it as well :)
No problem at all! Question was geared towards all students
I love green space that’s amazing
One of my favorite spots (Forest Theatre)
Me when I was looking at umass’s co28 💀 no way am I going to seriously majority white school again
Seriously I spent so much time in hs complaining about the diversity and now I would purposely put myself through that again??? I think not
EXACTLY manifesting my college has diversity fr 😭
Is financial aid offer out yet?
Prob not till fafsa right
i got in for cs, are there any current students here?
i dont know much about the program and have some questions if anyones alright with that :)
wait
what
they dont admit by major tho
idk like im interested in cs
thats what i put on my application idk if it makes a difference 😭🙏
yeah same
i think u n eed to apply to get in once there
(congrats btw)
You apply cs after first yr
i also wanna do buisness too
Oh ur chilling then
whats assured enrollment
oh nvm
and i think it helps me with cs? im confsued
that one you’re just being assured admission for 25-26
woah thats cool
wait so its not like this? https://admissions.unc.edu/apply/special-opportunities/
i should probably just ask them
but i remember checking something on the app about assured enorllment
The assured enrollment in this isnt for a major
Its enrollment at UNC after the semester abroad
that’s what I figured since it doesn’t say assured enrollment in X major
does unc give merit aid to oos? admissions nominated me for morehead cain which i thought was a good sign for other merit aid, and i got nothing 😭🙏
mmm
Sometimes, but theyd tell you on your portal
