#UNC-Chapel Hill (2023-2024)
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
400 is gold
i think
but they gotta be recognized legally
at like t10-t20 i’d say a lot of kids have it
but it’s still a good award to spruce up ur resume
I’d also recommmed joining hosa fbla deca or skills USA
one of those and compete
they’re pretty easy to score awards and some are just testing
and make sure ur ECs are all catered to a specific theme or major - mine was catered to Health Policy and Economics
Like beta club and NHS?
Mine is mostly music and engineering
Is that bad?
no i think thats create
great*
could def write about music for ur community essays
and engineering for ur why us essays
focus on establishing those two!
Alright!
Hello chat
You’ve been given a proposal
#1135360044796477511 message
Lmk your decision
@candid scaffold @inner quail @bold rain @lethal wigeon @grand needle @tough fulcrum
i'm from il so i also don't have much of an opinion but i'm not opposed to it and an nc thread might be helpful for your ncssm questions
If this many of you aren’t from NC maybe we’ll separate it lol
Bc it sounds like it’d just add clutter
No squirmy woo sovietz and me are from nc
theres already lots of clutter in this chat 💀
There’s a difference
It’s actually pretty normal for 7-9 freshman to take Calc AB and sometimes AB/BC every year in my school
Well yeah you live in a densely Indian populated area..
None of them can get a 5 in AP world so ofc
It’s become somethjng common in wake county
thanks to that one middle school that lets you double up maths each yr
I don’t think so
Nope
Wake Forest University is in Winston Salem, which is
- 2 hours west of Wake Forest
- In Forsyth County
Random ahhh forest university
So expensive😐
I met some sophomores applying to ncssm from wake and literally every kid has taken calc ab and AP phy 1 already😐peer pressure apparently
Oh that girl is an Indian if you're wondering
Oh yeah it’s a common thing here in wake county
9/10 but too white
shit shes a sophomore
eh close enough
dont shittalk wake forest
my brother goes there now 💪
go demon deacons
(???)
That's some random kpop idol
💀💀
Dawg your rich
But you're Asian so expected tbf
Too white💀
i wouldnt stress over that
many ppl at my school take calc junior or senior year
they still make it into prestigous schools
and many ppl get Bs in calculus
even pre calulus
cuz its a tough class here.
Yeah I’m not really stressing over it
For the most part they come into calc and do really bad
yep what’s the point of saying “I took this many aps in freshman/sophomore year” but leave out the fact they got Bs and Cs 😭
srsly had a girl bragging she was taking multivariable calculus only to be secretly struggling with a C
I’m just leaving out the outliers
Like this one freshman finishing calc bc with close to a 100
Anyway
Can’t do much abt it
Me too
My school doesn't even do bc
Most of my HS didn't do higher than either precalc or math 4 (when it was introduced)
I and my teachers see no point in AP pre calc
But I'm in an accelerated course in school where you gotta do that yearlong
It's annoying af
that's not ironic
is wake forest in a good area
Everywhere in NC is good!
true it is a nice area
but i’ve heard where wake forest is isn’t really an urban area
WFU? Probably
I haven't been to WS in a while
Unc
Yeah I liked it a lot
oh nice
Cornelle
Cornylian
i wish wake forest had linguistics major
I wish wake Forest was cheaper
me too 😭

still gonna apply tho
im sure they have sometthing similar?
they got a minor but that's it
no majors similar to linguistics?
i mean probably "[insert language family] languages and literatures" but that's lame
not worth it tbh
whats the difference 😭
those majors study specific languages with a much heavier focus on literature, linguistics studies the basic makeup of all languages
oh i see
cool
what do u wanna do post college
indeed
i refuse to enter the corrupt business world or the corrupt government world so i will instead enter the corrupt academic world
💀
LMAOO
Besides Greensboro it is very suburban
But not entirely rural
Kinda like chapel
unc has a linguistics major
(and minor)
this is pog
very cool
our anthro dept rocks
what day does this shit come out for ea
late january
what date
Last year it was January 25 iirc
what time est does this shit come out ea
unsure specifically for unc but usually 5-6pm est is a good bet
its not a specific date
its late january
so likely after january 14
closer to the 20-30th range
i did indeed apply
epic good to know
okay thanks
ah okay
they should just do 12 am like normal people
Wild
Midnight is nice
That's what they did for JEE
Puts more psychological pressure on the kids
Makes them stay awake the whole night in anxiety
Unc was 3pm cst for me
facts
website says jan 31st
Yeah
nice
oh
I love UNC why do they have to be so hard to get into OOS. Like boi why are u harder to get into than Georgetown 🫠
UNC is NC’s flag school so they try and make it exclusive for in state kids
We don’t want no Californians in our school
based tbh
what about illinoisans?

it's probably unconstitutional but they should admit by state
Maybe if uiuc stops cucking😭🙏

me when the is schools don’t want me and the oos schools don’t want me
If you're a Californian isnt it like guaranteed that you'll get in some UC
bruh people living in nc/cali/michigan/tx/va cannot complain about in-state schools 💀
Real
Illinois
sure il too
Ny?
:(
Bro forgot to mention GA
eh
okay yeah ga is good
University of Florida, FSU, university of Miami, Florida central, south florida
mid
No
There’s still minimum requirements
And even then it gets more competitive per major
No like the CC transfer thingy
TAG still has reqs
I see
We have a law that limits the amount of OOS students that can be in an incoming class. If a school goes over this amount they get a huge fine
Its not limited to UNC; its all public schools in NC
Which makes sense, considering that public schools are funded by state taxes
Somewhat
i believe that number is 18%
That's very high tbf
i don't think it's good for a school to be comprised with that many in state students
if they drop that number down, the quality of students will def drop
I disagree for the most part
I think it should be limited to closer to 30% oos tho
But I think it’s good for a state to prioritize the education of their own students
well i mean this was the ratio i was thinking too
I think the ratio should be focused based around how much tax money goes towards the school
California when
so many of my friends never get into a UC despite being in state
or a good UC rather
If a school is largely funded by tax money, why should a large percentage of OOS students take the place of students from families who have been paying for the school
I think 18% is fair enough, considering that there are privates in state that arent held to the same standard
is it that hard to get top 9% in gpa?
i agree
Oh okay then I agree with you
girl im literally struggling with. 3.4 and I have adhd don’t ask me
I can only speak from my schools experience but we’re a pretty competitive school
Also, 9% only means you get into Merced most of the time and not many people I know want to go there
we can complain because it's so gotdang expensive compared every single other state school
i mean oos other schools are more expensive
but i reserve the right to complain
What's the tuition for uiuc
too expensive 😭
Was umich very expensive
but i mean for the first year, i'm not pay much. next year tho...
about 20000 instate
17k first year but it's gonan go up bc family income is up too
Well UVA tuition is like 24k
I think only NC has cheap tuition
unc has cheap oos tuition
on the cheap side
True
wait it was like 32k last year wtf
good to know we are not alone
Wait so you're not applying to uiuc?
😔
prez ur done man
when u apply to unc
ill make sure ur not getting in
no matter what school u go to
funny you say that
If I get in ncssm I'm autoadmit
🤠
i'll change that lil guy dont u worry
ill make sure u never enter ncssm too

N-noooooooo
ur done kid
i have the entire great state of nc on my side
Then the #1135740521571156079 peeps are my homies
no
I have virginians on my side..
virginia is mine too
fight fight fight fight fight fight
fight again
Ok

cali is still ass
bro collecting states like pokemon
ut austin got that 6% rule for in state applicants
so unfair
as long as ur top 6% of ur class u get guaranteed admission. I wishchapel hill did that
i think thats bullshit honestly lol
people need to learn that being "the best" sometimes isnt enough
failure is part of life and doesnt mean that you yourself are a failure or weak
or unqualified or anything
rejections happen
yk
6% of your state I thought
Well even if you're not 6% you can apply lol
i am very well aware 😭
instead of just auto admitting maybe they could idk give scholarships as a reward
i know tons of people in the top 6% of my class who would love to have used some scholly money on CC
infinity stones ong 😭💀
eh what unc does is better than autoadmit imo
it’s more fair to judge applications overall
😭 still would be nice to just get in
i mean
if you're applying to UNC you can easily get autoadmit to any number of CCs here
autoadmit would take out a lot of the stress of applying but idk
i dont think that stress is bad
i think people need better coping skills & less societal pressures to stress abt college
Absolutely
I think generally we need to emphasize stress management and coping skills, not just for school, because the world we live in is so full of stress
There's also, funnily, a lack of education on what it takes to be "successful"
Because there's a high focus on meeting other people's ideas of "success" rather than defining your values and success for yourself
And I dont mean that to blame kids and say "its all your fault that youre stressed, just focus on values and youll be fine" bc I can guarantee most of this comes from either obsessive parents or the internet
And thats not the fault of the kid yk
i agree man
Oct 15 is a really early deadline for a school that releases decisions Jan 31
Many high caliber applicants from NC get rejected from chapel
For many students it’s their reach school
Who all are applying to chapel hill from here this year
also a lot of not so high-caliber students in state get into top publics schools.
goes both ways
wake county 😂
They take kids county wise?
ONG it made me so mad
Pls like why do I have to wait several months before I get my decision????
It's because most of the UNC system schools deadlines are in the mid Octobers
Idk while chapel hill is the most famous there are other uncs too and they all need to work together I suppose
Yeah
Guys how hard is it to get a merit scholarship as an out of state student?
Very hard👍
The Morehead-Cain Scholarship for Out-of-State Residents offers merit-based scholarships for students from out-of-state who are nominated by their high school counselor/administrative staff or applied to UNC early action and referred by the office of undergraduate admissions
very difficult
merit scholarships at UNC in general are very very difficult
since yknow, there are a lot of people coming in who could easily earn it with grades alone, both in and OOS
What about aid
Carolina Covenant does some good aid for students who can't afford UNC
And by "cant afford" I mean like 200% or less poverty level or w/e
they compare you to ur school
or "area"
its harder to get into UNC from the wake area and from mecklenburg i believe from the charlotte area
4.6 GPA lands you barely within the top 10% at my school whereas a 4.2 GPA could be the valedictorian in a more rural area. Depends tho cuz theres also more opportunities here for ECs but its up for grabs for those that use connections.
lol like all my school's leadership positions for the clubs are like dominated by one friend group
i think (complete speculation) the reason why mecklenburg/wake seem competitive is just that there are a higher volume of applicants bc they're dense urban areas
so of course more people -> more applicants -> more rejections
and UNC does make an effort to reach out to high achieving students in rural areas because they often dont have the same opportunities as these high concentration urban areas
so outreach encourages kids who wouldnt usually apply to apply
which decreases available seats
not literally but
i hope that made sense
Can I get a tl;dr
County def taken into consideration
Luckily my county is considered rural but we also have really good schools 💪
I thought you were wake
Clipped sending that to your AO
Jealous of NCSSM kids until I become one myself☠️ 💯
💔
also bc most students in wake have parents in STEM there’s also hella asians here so everyone’s kinda pressured to try harder
there’s more opportunities but honestly the classes are also more known to be rigorous. APES is supposed to be one of the easier APs but at mine they go all extra have us do two ecostudy papers that are 30-40 pages long each, tests have u needing to read the sub notes and irrelevant parts of a textbook and we have to literally go fishing and wheelbarrow mulch for a grade of 12 volunteer hours💀
honestly made the class so much harder than the actual AP and was definitely unnecessary. It comes with its pros and cons ig
It's like a really competitive stem school in Raleigh
Apparently it's on par and even better than ncssm in some ways
It's so competitive that almost every kid from that school applies to Duke and chapel hill
Also they have a really huge superiority complex apparently
The freshmen in enloe take calc ab/bc and the sophomores take differential equations/mv calc
Schools like enloe is one of the best in the state but there's also a lot of competition NGL
In ncssm there's not really any competition as you already have UNC safeties and it's more like a chill haven
north carolina discourse is so funny
i wish the uiuc thread had illinois discourse
nc lore is crazy
My FRC team completely hates NCSSM kids
They're hard to work with and snobby apparently
true
NC lore is wild bc Ive lived here my entire life and I had NO fucking idea there was high school drama
Like inter-HS drama
I know Panther Creek exists and I've heard the name Enloe once before
I was aware of NCSSM but that was peripheral
I enjoyed my HS
Yeah mostly in competitions
Wild
its a magnet school with an IB program
Yes
but every "top public school" in wake sends around 60-70 kids to UNC every year
the other 70 ish go to NCSU
and the rest scatters usually to Charlotte or other UNCs or OOS schools
Green Hope, Green Level, Panther Creek, Enloe G, Raleigh Charter, NCSSM & Cary Academy (these two are ivy feeders)
CA isn't a public its a private but still
i go to one of those, and everyone is so snobby
in AP courses u have the same loop of people in ur classes and even ppl in friend groups compete with one another gatekeeping tests and material
Where do you go to
💀 that's crazy
in illinois everyone knows imsa and that's pretty much it
my gov teacher hates stevenson high school and i don't particularly like them either but most people do not care
Are these schools free for everyone to join or is there a
Application you gotta get accepted to
Raleigh Charter is lottery
Cary Academy is 30k + application
NCSSM well ig u know already
the rest are just by area
where u live
Definitely because of all the indians in the area
Competitive af
But a city only a few hours away has like mostly indians
Ah
Did you apply to ncssm too
Ncssm connect?
no
i didnt get into ncssm
for junior and senior year i just did dual enrollment through NCSU and Wake
Wait you took online freshmen and soph year?
yeah
Damn
kind of a blessing...
damn is that normal
yeah
a lot of kids do dual enrollment
also stack up on APs
At NC state?
my friend is taking 7 APs this year + 5 extra dual enrollment
Crazy💀💀💀💀
yeah theres an application process
thats a lot more strict than wake
since wake is a cc
and NCSU is well a pretty prestigious college for NC ppl esp for engineering
Yes
but if ur from a rural area
i wouldnt worry that much
just take what ur school has the most to offer
in my situation, I don't take the courses to get ahead i take it so i dont fall behind my peers
😭
Nah not really I'm Wilmington
You wont be if I get accepted 😭
To where
i mean theres a lot of things i wish i did
throghout HS
that i didnt do
probably wouldve made me feel better abt chapel applications
I am assuming you live in NC?
You'll get in
Yes
im not that confident on my chapel hill application
Yeah to UNC
Nah I mean there are a shit ton of indians in wake county
Not many in Wilmington
😭 my friends and I are making bets
How many $
we all think we arent getting in but the other are
$100
per person
and if we all get in its mutual
Why does UNC take so much time with their decisions when their EA is oct 15 💀
Damn if one doesnt atleast they get a few hundred bucks
UNC system schools all have the same submission date that's why
that too
Ah
honestly even if u dont get into NCSSM theres tons of stuff u can do. I'd try to graduate top of ur class
my college counselor was a past AO for unc
and she told me some parts about the application process
UNC cares a lot about ur class rank, they esp look for top 10%
Test scores are also important
lmao we dont have class rank here
if u dont have class rank they'll take that into consideration
depends rlly on the school
I'm trying I'm like 23rd of 500
But since I moved here 2 years ago and didn't do middle school, I had to repeat tons of stuff and I'm lagging behind rn
thats more than enough
top 5%
ur fine
Ah
My test scores are good but hopefully good enough for UNC
I got a 89% in math 1 eoc💀
not that test score
Same lmao
i meant like
SATs
ACTs
they dont rlly look at that.
EOC
i mean maybe
but if its in middle school
What was the the general SAT range for UNC again?
what about international?
in competitive counties
their avg is like a 1430
for in state
oos is much higher
international would def be harder
oof
1550+
I got a 1560
im not kidding
Hats good
Should be enough
My grades on the other hand…
i mean
Completely fucked up lmao
if its upward trend
its good
even if u get like 6-7 Bs u still can get a 7/10
on the performance score
Nah I have all As but we have a /100 system here
i mean like i said, they'll know the context of ur school
And I messed up a few physics exams in junior
ur being compared to ur peers
but yeah
it would be totalyl unfair to compare someone who came from a rural county to a competitive one
yk
Yeah
It makes me laugh to not see my HS in this list bc we stomped in sports, I always thought we were bigger LOL
I mean tbh
Sports and stem are way different
They didnt specify stem tho they just said "top public schools"
We werent full of sweats tho so ig that may be why
We actually had a somewhat balanced student body kekw
I do think a cool fact abt my HS is that its more diverse than UNC
athens apex friendship cary?
LOL idk
i was just kinda referring to those like competitive academic ones but even still i mightve left some out
its just my own opinion from my own experienecs
That's fair
I don't think mine was "competitive" at least academically
I felt like we were kinda rounded out
Like we sent a few kids to "elite" privates (Harvard, Yale, Duke) but most people went to UNC system schools, UTN, UofSC, or just CC
I think we had 20-30 go to UNC
ngl thats also with my school. By competitive I meant like maybe 1/4 of the school but those 1/4 ppl kinda "generalize" the stats of the school
the rest do what every other hs does
Gotcha gotcha
There was one kid last year from my school
Who went to USC
I think it was because of the money
That he got in
Weighted GPA in NC is so stupid
Some people like myself can’t take certain AP’s cuz of prerequisites and school limits
- IB, all their classes are 5.0’s so AP kids will never succeed
Tbf schools don't view GPA the way high schoolers do
Even if they don't recalculate GPA, they still take every part of your application into consideration
Including where you went to high school and what was available to you
They will not fault you for being limited
Wait what tf
Ncssm acceptances for class of 2020,21,22
They included people going to Durham Tech and Guilford Tech but no Wake Tech 🧐
?
They included 2 smaller CCs (afaik) but not a really well known high quality CC in Wake
Which makes me sus
Maybe no one went there
Lmaooo o
But this is crazy
Deep springs accepts only like 20kids
13 attending harvard???
Wtf
ohhhhh i think there's a kid at my school that's trying to get in there
i remember him talking about a random ranch school out west that only accepts like 25 kids
whats the benefit of going there
sounds like something out of a steinbeck book
idk but it sounds awesome
you're not allowed to leave
32000 acre ranch
that's just the whole gimmick
oh it's free too
13 in 3 years yeah
It's completely free and you work in an actual ranch + study with like the best professors. And it's a 2 yr college so after the 2 years are over
You transfer to Ivies
@sovietz bro what he left💀
man now i wanna go to deep springs college
wait huh
bruh💀
he left for deep springs college
😭
Well which unc is the question🤔
they're at chapel hill
freshman
i cant blame them tho
with the lockdowns n shit
also freshman year is awful
i almost dropped out after my first semester
partially because i made poor decisions in my scheduling, but also largely in part because the intro level STEM courses are insane for no reason
Lmao💀
Wait so do the AP courses count in UNC or do you gotta retake
For any advanced tests that you’ve taken during high school, such as AP, IB, or A-Levels, learn what course credit you’ll be awarded at Carolina.
I guess for more info:
I took APES, AP Lit, AP Stats, AP Chem, AP Calc AB, AP Lang, AP Drawing, and AP 2D Art
I got test credit for ENEC 202, MATH 231, STOR 155, and CHEM 101/L. I got I think 9 generic credit hours for the other courses, and only 3 hours for both Drawing and 2D (since it was a "duplicate credit").
Ahh okay thanks
Number one advice ** TEST OUT OF THE LANGUAGE CREDIT REQUIREMENT** AP score, IB, placement tests ANYTHING
UNC language sucks BALLS
oh boy! something to look forward to as a linguistics major
yeah but i'm gonna have to take language classes
so that's gonna be fun
maybe if i take like cherokee or something
Cherokee?
Is it weird that I think Cherokee people are cute/handsome cuz I read a fictional book where a Cherokee descendant was portrayed as a hot character
Piper from pjo btw
yeah that's weird
There are some good language courses
I enjoyed Japanese
(101 & 203)
But if you have no interest in language, try and test out
last week of january
id say jan 29th-31st for this year
last year I think it was the 28th
i see. thanks
youre probably right just not for that reason
the last three years have been the 27th
but its on a saturday this year
FUCK
unc could release on a saturday
its not unheard of
but usually states dont
its more privates that do
specifically LACs
is it usually 7 pm est
and techie schools
for al
it was 4 pm last year too
oh that sucks
i think that's good compared to being 7
u don't have to wait as long after getting off school
but if it's a rejection you're like all sad for so much longer
and its unc so it probably is a rejection 💀
this is unc thread 💀
but umich will be earlier at 3
mb
the sad feeling carries longer than just a day
same for unc tho 💀
that's tough
lowkey i'm still kinda sad about one of my rejection til this day
nyu, me no apply to any ivies
Arguably umich better than nyu
i third that
so i'm gonna find out immediately after school
same day as uiuc
Alot of unis will be releasing around that day afaik
OOS*
It will be more competition for you cuz you're oos
and u apply to that school i’ve like never heard of twins getting advantage
also in this case ur twin would be ur competition if anything 😭
And if she is valedictorian, you should probably consider applying to atleast 1-2 safeties where your sibling isnt applying 💀
also it depends on how many siblings u have
1 sibling? not rlly
5 siblings? a good hook
💀😭
How's that a hook
6 kids in a family is a lot
think abt it thats like so much money right there just on kids and all the time and effort to raise them coming from a family with 5-6 kids is different from just having 1-2 siblings
I mean having 5 kids in a country like USA is a lot of financial burden
Bad parental decisions
If she is test optional, you have no scores to be better at… And well essays matter a lot too
Ah I guess you will be fine then
Hello
Do y'all think asking advice from too many people on my essays would jeopardize it
Cuz I'm already asking 2 teachers, counselor, and accepted students
To a certain point, yes
I mean nothing wrong with asking a lot of ppl, just make sure that the essay still reflects “you”
Ask yourself if it’s still your voice
Like my unc essays were very unique to the way I write
Oh
Does Grammar and word choice include in this @west galleon @austere merlin
Yeah
Grammar not as much as word choice
Like fixing your grammar is less likely to make it sound less like you than changing word choice
advice is fine
but never change it when they suggest you rewrite it to some way and copy it word for word
as long as you listen to their suggestions but YOU do the rewriting on parts they said were iffy, it's still your geniune voice. I also wouldn't worry that much about it. Im ngl, most application essays are pretty medicore and "average", generic sounding even
the ones you see online or posted on tiktok go viral for a reason - they are actually superb, but thats like a small percent of every application pool. I wouldnt worry too much about trying to please ur admissions officers for ncssm or college, just focus on ur own writing style but dont make it sound too bland
also been seeing a lot of my friends use chatgpt to curate their essays
dont even think about that
it drains every single personal tone out of u
Ahh tysm
Bmed Eng 🤞
I applied to early assurance health care management/policy and biostatistics
linguistics
business
economics
neuro
HPM & biostats (gillings in general) are super cool :)
i do want to say, do not be discouraged if you dont get assured enrollment!!
it's not a rejection; you can still apply to gillings (or any other prof school) for any of the majors without assured enrollment
and of course if any of yall have questions please dont hesitate to ping me!!
If UNC has ten fans I’m one of them. If UNC has one fan it’s me. If UNC has no fans I’m dead.
Plz accept me plzzzzz
same
tysm !!!! i know i def won't id be happy that im admitted. ensured enrollment would be amazing though
Don’t come to UNC we have no dorms 💀
tf
1100 students on the waitlist for next year
Rip
at unc, upperclassmen gets priority over incoming freshmens?
I believe so
They do a shit job at making sure they don't over enroll 🥰 public school moment
I rescind this
Upperclassmen get priority over underclassmen I believe
But freshmen have their own dorms
Separate from non-freshman housing
So there is a seniority priority for returning students
But for incoming students, its different
how do upperclassmen even bare to stay in the dorms 😭 u can get cheaper prices for apartments and u get to avoid the nasty dining hall food
^that doesn't include ucla, umass, and yale
Ngl, some of the dorms are really nice
Joyner (the one I'm in) is fantastic
Cheaper and walkable are not really that common
It's hard to beat the location of the dorms on campus
Plus transportation is a mess since parking is super limited
i forget chapel hill isn't really a college town sometimes
every public school ever
I mean it is a college town, it's just not hella urban
It's not a city
then y'all should have like 15-20+ apartments nearby, no?
Define "nearby"
I also want to add not everyone who lives in Chapel Hill is a student, since there is still a ton of business here (and faculty)
thru apartments.com
this is where 90% of campus is btw, south campus is mostly dorms (+ KF)
the one right over "chapel hill" starts at $1,500/month
within college town so no more than 10 min from campus
10min drive, walk, bus, bike?
walk
man 1.5 k is expensive 😭 i already signed a lease for my apartment next yr, 1 min walk from campus and it's only 1.2k
Yeah 1.5k is gnarly
If you can get a parking spot tho you can get a decent place 15min drive away tho
I found a place for me & my friends, it's like 1.6k for 2 or 3 bed
my driving skills is gonna be so rusty from not driving during school year in college
1.6k for double isn't bad
imma be in a 4-bed
It comes back easy, takes a bit
Might be 1.6 for a triple, I can't remember what we were looking at, but either way it's cheaper than on campus :P
fr. they be ripping us off on room and board
public schools man
I fully believe most if not all colleges are businesses first
😭ikr yet they call themselves "non profits"🤓
yes we can
where do u dorm then
a hotel
Oh I got lucky
But if you don’t get off the waitlisted ur just fucked
UNC won’t put you anywhere lolol
YOURE IN JOYNER??!
Lucky bastard
I got a Morrison super suite for next year tho
Lucky bastard
wait so just off campus?
😎
I earned it
(Not rly)
First year was in Alexander, second in Connor
Connor is great but I wanted to try out the Joyner bathrooms
They're wonderful btw
Haha 😈
Morrison is goated too
Yeah but the problem is most of the leases are taken by the time UNC pranked us so ur options are basically wait and hope OR pay $4000 for an off campus apt
Real I love Morrison
..
Are the bathrooms that special
Wtf that's a whole ass room
I could sleep in it
oh wtf
how much is the dorm
compared to that 4000
A double is like $3.8/sem I think
okay so not outrageous
wait a SOLO OFF-CAMPUS APARTMENT IS JUST $200 MORE EXPENSIVE than A TINY DORM WITH TWO PEOPLE
4000/sem seems cheap for a single/studio
It would depend on proximity to campus
I know one of the closest apartments to campus is $2000/month for a studio
@inner quail which dorm would u say is the best?
it depends on your personal wants/needs out of a dorm, but in my experience its been joyner
fantastic location & the bathrooms are sooooo nice
thats so good
can second years live off campus
i assume first years are guaranteed housing
OoOoO
do they have singular dorms
for one person?
if i get accepted i plan to get a one person dorm bc i hate sharing space with others
They do, but they're reserved for students with accommodations first, and then its pretty hard to get one since there are few left
Its also very difficult to get an accommodation for a single since they're very high demand
I hate sharing my space with other people but its a bit of a trade off ig
I wish UNC and Public ivys or whatev had ED
How am I supposed to show my true commitment 😔
They’ll never know
Well for starters
You can be a state resident for said college
:)
40% acceptance rate instate:
😩
felt
im in state tho
🙏
Not for UNC💀
Well damn guess I have to purchase a domicile in NC
Ohh
well tbf it doesn’t tell the whole story
as most of the school doesn’t apply for unc here
But they tend to take 40ish percent of those who actually apply
People usually have stats in the general range if they’re applying
so definitely significantly easier to get in easier but not like insanely easy to get in if ur instate
its actually rlly hard to get into if ur from the charlotte or wake counties
Yeah that’s what I’m saying
Competitive districts make it a lot more difficult that it seems
😀 wake county applicant here!
Same
are you applying to wake forest
UNC my love my spirit my everything…… you are golden.
G
I love unc so much hope they accept us EA
I would give up my left toe to get in EA
So true
It’s also so underrated by how cheap it is like…. For a t30 or whatever school UNC by far has the most value per dollar pent
No literally
The value for cost is insane
And it’s not even close
In terms of prestige and money the closest is like MAYBE the UC schools but even that is a huge leap in cost
8%

dayum
8% is not "chances of getting in OOS"
that is just the acceptance rate
nobody knows "the chances" because it varies from person to person
This sounds dumb but do u guys think it’s a little bit easier than it looks befause not as competitive people apply?
Wdym?
I would say it's "easier than it looks" for in-state students because the OOS acceptance rate is significantly lower (like 9% vs 40%)
But not generally speaking
See by chances of getting in
He was asking about acceptance rate
Because no one knows about his chances
Was Durham actually that bad a few years ago? Some friends told me it was always filled with shady people and it was unsafe until a few years ago
It's always had a rep for being more dangerous/shady than like, Raleigh
At least in my memory
im done for
I LOVE YOU CARLY!!!!!!
I love the cat carly
Chloe I thought our thread was special.. But you sent one to Penn too :(
But they were all personalized!
true
hi how r we feeling
hello unc megathread!!!!
hello squirmy!
unc is one of the threads i babysit
when the boss gives u a "thank you [name]" email
my rejection letter was personalized!! (they called me by my name)
!northeastern
wrong thread for that 😭
LOL its all good, its not a huge deal i was assuming you probably didnt realize you were in the unc thread
i do believe northeastern came out already though,
Pro tip: do not take ENEC201 with Gangi
Dr Gangi is a fantastic person with great industry connections
But his class SUCKS
anyone here get referred by morehead through the admission referral?
Did they email u?
I just got an info thing for honors Carolina lol but that’s prob sent to everyone 😔
no, but i saw on reddit someone get semis by the admission referral
they said if not notified by mid dec, we arnet referred
oh well
Does this mean anything
does what ?
oh everyone got that if you hit interested in honors
I wish, hoping I get one as a sign 🫶
Did you apply to morehead Cain?
i did not apply direct, my school is not eligible, so i applied early and prayed for admission referral
Damn
but, ig my app wasnt strong enough, so now im sad
Same
You probably have to be cracked to get referral
fr, thats why im looking for someone who got referred so i can compare stats
im severely doubting my capabilities.
same I think today and uchicago Monday will show me that I really have to work on revising my apps before rd 😅
Don’t worry guys!
ellie get off this discord and join the call.
Did you apply to the Robertson? It’s a similar program
