Okay, so here's the thing: I don't intend to be an expert; hence, I chose the word coach, not "counselor" or "expert". I had 2 freshmen as my college counselor, 1 at Yale & 1 at Stanford, and 1 UChicago alumni as my college counselor. Their expertise is in another area (Stanford and UChicago are CS, and Yale is writing, I think—I'm not super close to Yale person).

They only got in (I think the Stanford one applied REA and then got in, withdrew the other applications, so respect, but for me, because I want to truly find out if I got lucky or not—maybe yeah—so I applied to all ivies and some T20s cause Common App limit but will withdraw as soon as they're out though. Only evidence could truly speak and I might get lucky 🤷).

Are my college counselors expert? No. Did they help? Def. I honestly 1000% couldn't get in without their help. I like Ali Abdaal's (or at least I learned that from him): Be a guide, not a guru. I'm literally just one step ahead, which is finishing my college application not too long ago, and obviously, I don't have decades of experience. I did get help from 4 college counselors (another one is from the College Essay Guy Matchlighters program), so I somewhat know the process.

Plus, I've been literally helping with other people's essays A LOT (like maybe 10-ish people already for about a month and I'm helping one person's entire Stanford transfer application—not on this server though) without charging anything. Honestly I hate charging people, I just love helping with this college application process because I genuinely enjoy it, it's just Stanford's tuition is crazy and after I have that covered somehow, I have no problem with help people for free.

My point is if you want my full support for everything college-related, then I can only do it with somewhat of a fee because it wouldn't be realistic to do that plus all the work at Stanford. But for now with my current senioritis, I can help people for free no problem, I just can't do it for the entire application or in-depth if that makes sense. And a ton of Stanford people doing the same thing so I'll go ask them how they do it this might not be the best way to do this cause people often misunderstand my intention (which is my fault for not making it clear but idk how)

Even if I got 3’s and a 4 (which is good in my area as AP passing rate is hella low)

Would it have been better to withhold them or just send the 3’s and 4’s I received

Some told me that withholding them would have led them to believe I got 2’s or lower

While others said it was unnecessary because the AP scores I received, credit wasn’t offered by Stanford for them

Idk if other schools do this, but for Stanford, before the decision, they were super quiet, but when I got in REA, they were super active with communications: they sent everyone a personalized note from your Admission Officer, one phone call with a current Stanford student and one Zoom call with another current Stanford student so they can answer any questions that you have. So yeah before decisions they were really quiet, though they don't send anything 😕
