Yea see the thing is us news doesn't work the way u think. Basically the schools that want to pay more from their specific programs to USNEWS will get a higher ranking thats how it works. So for purdue they've since the past 150+ years have built a really strong reputation for engineering they want to keep that legacy with Usnews so they continue to give money for their engineering programs to remain in the T5-T10. Not saying they're paying their way to rankings but they're actually top in engineering and they want to maintain that with usnews which is why they gotta pay them. However, with any engineering core foundations of math and physics are VITAL and if a school has a good engineering then you know that their related departments must be goood. Not saying purdue is like caltech at all but im saying like itd be similar to programs you'd get at other state schools like umd and umich even though their "rank" on usnews may not be the same. So in general take that ranking with a pinch of salt because what really matters is the brand name and how potential industry partners would think about the university, and purdue has def built up a lot for that. Also since purdue is like top 3 in aero they must have a good physics department they just dont give money to places like niche and usnews to increase the rank
