NROTC ISR scholarship has a lot more weight than a normal scholarship. Good relation with the unit and spoke to admissions in meetings with the commanding officer of the Navy NROTC. They gave me an "unofficial" likely letter and even said they look forward to seeing me on campus. Got lion goodies and waited until today for the decision

But it's OK because Cornell was my #1 for engineering but I just didn't expect they'd actually admit me so I tried to bring my expectations down 😭

100% agree with this actually. EVERY SINGLE IVY (i got Accepted 4 , WLed at 2, and rejected at 1) I did the essays DAY it was due usually close to 11:59. Yet my dream school (MIT) I spent over 3 months on it + paid for outside essay consulting for 3 sessions

I think the rawer the essay, the more genuine it is tbh
