but other than that not really any "disadvantages"

whats the difference between qb and commonapp?

so first you apply to QB to become a finalist (this year around 6k from 20k), and its based out of a few factors, financial + academic achievement, first gen etc. And then if you become a finalist you can rank up to 15 colleges.
application wise the difference is that QB, id say was much bigger than the common app, so it asked more questions and allowed you to show a side of yourself you really cant otherwise, trade offs is really the time and the small amount of people who get matched.

Here’s how I approached it. I applied REA to a school I was banking on getting in. Let my grades slip, didn’t plan on retaking test scores, and ended up deferred. Got rejected up until ivy day. This was my mindset (albeit I only had one safety I was accepted to).
If you’re applying to columbia, you’re likely smart and dedicated enough to succeed anywhere. Sure, name brand is nice, but you can find a supportive community, great academics, and great opportunities elsewhere, and college is ultimately what you make of it. What I did was took a nap before decisions, and fell in love with the school I had already gotten into. I was excited to check out housing, excited to look into research, etc. Prepared me to expect nothing, and I ended up not only not disappointed, but frankly way more appreciative in return
So TDLR; if you don’t get into columbia, it isn’t the end of the world. if you do, that’s great! there’s plenty of things to look forward to no matter where you end up because college is ultimately what you make of it :)
and good luck to everyone applying/waiting on decisions, don’t stress yourself out over the “could’ves”

if you think all of nyc is like times square you are very wrong; morningside is on the quieter side but there’s a lot of diversity (families, non-columbia communities, all diff ethnicities and genders) and is generally very welcoming
