I mean, you pretty much got your decision along with the vast majority of the waitlist-- it's a rejection with honors. Even if by some miracle you get off the waitlist, don't expect aid. The waitlist is kinder to full-pays and the bulk of their financial aid went to the people they wanted more.

they’re infamously stingy w aid to begin with
the most important waitlist admission factors depend on non-financial institutional priorities incl. the quality of your waitlist essay, spots in the program(s) you applied to, your likelihood to participate in xyz extracurricular activity (i.e. if they need a specific instrument in their marching band and a person on the waitlist plays that instrument, they’re higher priority than someone who wouldn’t be interested in band)
it’s also emphasized on the waitlist website that availability of financial aid funds changes from year to year
iirc usually they have tentative financial aid offers ready for people on the waiting list but because of the fafsa that wasn’t possible this year

It actually seems like a pretty smart strategy-- underaccept during RD, only the candidates you think will give you the best yield. Leave some space and overwaitlist anyone who isn't an automatic reject. Once your yield starts to come clearer, cherry-pick off your waitlist only in the the areas you need (probably not SCS) and only the candidates who put in the effort to both accept and write the 300 word essay thing (signaling thirsty candidates and potentially better yield). Don't issue a waitlist offer until you've had a pre-interview with them and feel fairly confident they will accept. And while you are in there, you can put more weight on candidates needing less/no financial aid. It's more work maybe? But maybe not -- you're putting more effort into better candidates, just later in the process then usual. I dunno, all speculative at this point but I will be super curious to see their CDS for this year.
