so i got rejected by Cornell by ED1, and im considering to apply to CMU ED2 for CS or ECE. My ECs r balanced between the two as I have experience with firmware and driver modification as well as reverse-engineering Windows 10's registry. I also have decent experience in C, Java, Javascript, Python, CSS, and HTML. However, my stats honestly ain't the best w 1410 SAT(740M 670RW) and 4.63/5.0 weighted GPA.
I have a couple of questions.
Is there really no point in applying ED2?
And how does the likelyhood of getting into ECE compare w CS?

Here's the deal: you're applying to a lot of places and even if you get into only one or two, you deserve the opportunity to consider them. If you ED CMU, then you commit to it even though the odds of getting in aren't higher versus RD

From experience top places where you can just chill and meet people:

• diversity center in university center basement, mixed study/lounge area with food you meet tons of people there and they host events very often
• a couple of freshman dorms every year become big friend groups and their lounges become places to meet people, if you hear about one of these from someone just visit
• at kgb easy to meet people especially beginning of the year attendance for their events is very high
• there’s a list of clubs every year and a club fair where everyone goes to the lawn and advertises their club
• tons of orgs post bonding events like mixers on Instagram

i think u have to be a really particular kind of person to enjoy cmu

essentially the only good thing about cmu is that the classes are very interesting

probably far more interesting than most other colleges' curriculums, especially for cs/ece/math

there's also 4 years masters programs but im pretty sure a non-zero amount of colleges have those

and then everything else is either shit or matched by other colleges

anyways im not aware of any other colleges that ask you to implement an entire kernel from scratch, especially by yourself

the computational biology course here is also super computationally intensive and at times it almost feels like dsa 2 X probability in cs, very cool stuff, seems unique to cmu as far as im aware

is cmu a good fit for someone who doesnt wanna go to a school where a TON of studying is required to get good grades in classes

cuz like im from the bay area and ive heard a lot abt how some uc's coursework (even in majors like cs, bio, etc) feel easier than bay area high schools and not a lot of studying is needed

CMU is known for being academically intensive and difficult

They have a reputation of having a depressed student body

So no it’s not a good fit I’d say lol

But ultimately it’ll depend on the individual I guess

I don't go here yet, but from what I've heard you should expect to have to work all day every day at CMU
