#~15-40% schools for CS/STEM/overall

Look into Virginia Tech!
np! these schools have great name recognition regionally and even nationally, especially for their CS/engineering programs
imo it’s a little below umd but still t25 I think what really helps is that VT is a tech school right so alot of the career opportunities and fairs are tech forward
and the general exposure to all aspects of tech let’s say you decide to you want to lean more towards CE or the hardware aspects being at tech would put u in a good spot but generally tech at CS is a t25 program
What about UVA? Because I’m In a similar situation, but I’m instate for Virginia and I’m just kind of conflict like if I do apply and happen to get into both which one should I take? Because I saw on a list thag both tech and uva are good but do you prefer tech in this case?
I think you have a good list
Umass Amherst and UW Madison are targets id say
rest are reaches but with your scores you have a shot
chk app questions I’ll answer this there since this is someone else’s forum
Is this weighted
Case Western, University of Washington, University of Notre Dame (?)
Some suggestions -
Reaches: Wesleyan, Wake Forest, UVA, Vanderbilt, Carleton, Notre Dame, UC Berkeley, WUSTL, Harvey Mudd, UMich Ann Arbor
Targets: Oberlin, UFlorida, William & Mary, UC Santa Barbara UGeorgia
Safeties: WPI, Virginia Tech, Truman State, RPI, UW Madison, Rose-Hulman
some tech schools but a lot of other good ones too
Not sure if Virginia Tech is a safety
RD was down to 19% this year (in all fairness EA was like 40)
engineering is like half of that
CS is apart of VT Engineering so I'd only imagine Engineering is ~20% going into the next admissions year
how are Uflorida and U georgia targets and UW madison and Vtech safeties lol other way around
for cs it is
nevertheless i think ull get in to all of them
with his scores he has a very good shot
for cs they arent that competitive comparitively
Arent they still targets
UW Madison is a safety then?
or vtech
both are good cs schools
i think youre looking at overall acceptance which is misleading
Their CS acceptance rates would still probably both be higher than Ugeorgia and uflorida though
brother which uni are you in?
Virignia tech maybe a target but UGeorgia and UFlorida aren't safeties...
i really think this arguement is not worth it
truth is vtech and uw madiosn are btter cs schools
But wouldn't they still have higher acceptance rates?
What's the UW Madison and Vtech CS acceptance rates
I'd like to know if I miscategorized it so I can do it right in the future
Im not sure of the numbers and idt acceptance rate solely is the best factor of judging quality
Agreed, but reach/target/safety is measured by acceptance rate
You can have a safety school that is still really high quality
naturally since both are public schools they tend to have higher accpetence rates
but the average applicant applying to vtech or uw madison cs would be stronger than a ugeorgia or uflorida cs
if thats so ig you can keep the list as is
but id catgeorize them based on how hard the school is to get into, how good of a candidate i am
id say for this applicant 1490 SAT and good grades unless he flops ECs or essays he'll def get into Ugeorgia or uflorida cs
and even though rankings are bs and skewed you can see UW madison and vtech ranked much higher than the other two
ic
vt engineering as a whole is sub 20 percent acceptance rate
and CS is apart of that
so u can imagine arguably the most competitive applicant pool (CS) and one of the largest is even lower than that
13-15%
yeah so def not a safety then
but i think ull get in to t20 cs schools
it is very competitive but i think u have the stats an admitted applicant would have
i got into UW Madison and Umass waitlisted at Purdue w a 1450 SAT
and you said u wanted to get into the 'cs schools'
im sure you will
