#STEM Major College Search

I'm trying to look for some targets based on my stats, as those around me have unrealistic expectations for my college apps. Thank you for your time! ❤️

Location/Region: I come from a really big city on the West Coast (Cali), so I'm looking for either urban/suburban, but would really love to study on the East Coast or somewhere relatively far away due to some toxic family dynamics. I figure I will likely apply to most UCs, but would prefer something farther away.

Major: ChemE or MechE, or possibly physics or chem. I've taken, and done well in, some of the AP sciences (Chem, APPC:Mech) but further than that, applied science really excites me.

GPA/Test Scores: 4.0 UW (weighted at my school isn't standardized); APs: 5 on APPC:Mech, Chem, AB, BC (+AB subscore), Lang, and a 4 on Euro; 1560 SAT; 1510 PSAT. I got a 2 on E&M as I was forced to take it, but will not be reporting :)

Curriculum: Unrelated but I'm half-Arab, so I'd appreciate a school with some diversity and/or Middle Eastern studies courses, and might minor in that if possible.

Size: Looking for anything larger than my current school (625 total students). Class sizes don't matter much to me, as I have heard they will shrink as classes become more niche-specific.

Costs: No financial need, open to merit scholarships

Schools I'm Currently Looking At: My parents both went to Stanford and Yale each (UG/med school and law school), so I was thinking of REA to Stanford, and applying to most ivies (the pressure is insane ahhhh). To my point of trying to get far away, I've also nearly finalized my UK apps for Chem and engineering degrees there.

Additional: redacted sorry, relevance to major = professional research and lab experience

but anyways

#

it is not unrealistic to say that you have a legit shot at T20 schools

#

UChicago has a molecular engineering major that is basically what you would get with a Chemical Engineering major
RIT, RPI are good targets/borderline safeties for ur stats
Purdue is ranked pretty high and not as unnatinable
UIUC is really good as a target/bordeline safety
Cornell, Princeton are the two Ivy league schools that are good for engineering
Georgia Tech is a really good engineering school thats probably a reach
USC has a great engineering school (but ik u want to go away)
Northeastern, Boston University are two great STEM schools for ur major
UMD is one of my favorite schools but idk how they are specifically for ChemE

sorry, i saw not to list "extracurriculars if they are not relevant to what you’re looking for in a college" and assumed that meant irrelevant ecs, my apologies i can delete if needed

#

thank you so much for the recs, i will look into each

#

the reason why is so that this doesn't turn into chance me simulator

rain sage
#

#

why not scea yale if you want to get away

#

oh eh you’re stem

#

probably decent shot at cornell if you don’t write like an idiot

#

good engineering and it’s far from cali but it’s not urban

#

would suggest mit as well, your stats are basically the "norm" for them but still apply anyway cause you never know

#

izfeb reccs are solid

#

haven’t heard anything particularly bad about columbia engineering so maybe that too but it’s not a target

rain sage
lavish yoke
#

who said they don’t consider legacy

rain sage
#

common data set? I’ll check again though

#

tysm for the recs too, brb checking🤍

lavish yoke
#

idt they explicitly list it in the cds

rain sage
#

hmm nvm not in the pdf, i think I heard it from my brother’s private counselor

#

so ig hearsay

lavish yoke
#

they definitely consider it

#

they haven’t made any public announcement that they don’t consider it

rain sage
#

ty so so much for the info! sorry I was wrong abt that

lavish yoke
#

that being said

#

you prob have higher legacy boost at Stan cause parent + brother

#

but it’s in cali so uh yeah

sick jacinth
#

Apply to Penn please 🙂

rain sage
#

ty for the advice🙏

sick jacinth
#

Its urban, east coast, lots of diversity, middle eastern studies courses, great chem program and even better physics program, big school, and since you wanted to apply to most ivies its an ivy lmao

#

Good engineering school too if you decide to go that route

#

it checks all ur boxes

#

no such thing as an ivy school thats necessarily bad for engineering either

sick jacinth
#

I'd say its like a good target for you unless their engineering school is somehow way harder to get into and idk

#

but my bf was originally going to go there (he ended up switching for lehigh)

#

speaking of which lehigh is also a good target thats a great engineering school

#

its urban and in Bethlehem

#

in PA

rain sage
#

ty so so much!🫶

small moon
#

Here are some colleges in a pretty broad target range (25% to 55%):
RPI, URoch, UM College Park, Lehigh, UConnecticut, Lafayette College, Clemson U, Stony Brook, UIUC, NC State at Raleigh, UT Austin

sick jacinth
#

also if u ED Lehigh it is basically a safety cuz their ED acceptance rate is in the 70%s I think
