#Need to narrow down my list from 30 schools

Why 5 safeties π
They want you so bad
is that too much or too little π
Basic stats: 3.9 UW, 9 APs and 2 DE by graduation, 1540 SAT (790 M)
I would narrow down based on how many scholarships they're willing to pay to international students.
You dont need 5 safeties
ok I just cut down 3
3 most
Yeah
Esp if u want to shorten ur list
What do the colors mean
Red is expensive?
Or
RIT and UDelaware is good enough lol
Yeah rit is like 70% ar ur fine
light red is considering to remove
Delaware is like #5 in ChemE cuz company connections
Why not remove all the light red ones
Emory is rlly solid tho for ur majors
Esp if u do the engineering program w gatech
Or even if u just do bio cuz of all the premeds
Could be too premed tho
I mean their prog for biochem is solid even when not counting pre-med
erm RIT vs WPI or should I consider both?
Yea 3 is good
Ur safeties should be schools u can afford that you absolutely know you will love
I personally like ohio state for most of their programs, it's also such a big school that there's always something for everybody
Ive done no research an wpi
On
But rit has good cs funding
I was looking at cs majors at rit
Not bio
They do have some like
Bme masters accelerated program tho
Didnt spark excitement in me as a premed but it exists
Also have good labs and facilities to build stuff
Again, unsure abt the actual bio side though
non-bme premed?
π
cuz you said cs
I assumed you did EE or CompE
5 safeties is fine y'all
not everyone needs to shotgun
i mean op is applying to 30 anyways but still
@warm snow you have a shit ton of colleges in the middle of nowhere for someone who wants an urban-ish location
unfortunately gotta do my job and recommend rice since it fits every one of your criteria. consider cutting some of those maine schools though
My counselor told me to consider Dartmouth for aid

Cuz intl
Where you applying from?
Yeah I asked my school counselor for how to thin the list and he just recommended more schools. Haven't added them.
counselors are all like that
i mean if you're applying intl and need aid then i'd recommend applying to more schools than a domestic student would
Cuz Maine or smth?
yeah i mean they're all in the middle of buttfuck nowhere and you said you want city proximity
Vietnamese studying at a US boarding school on financial aid
even schools like tufts tbh, you may not like. medford n somerville have promixity-ish to boston but you're really not gonna be going into the city as much as you expect
I think I'm "domestic" for Pomona admission-wise and just don't qualify for fed aid I think
It has a train directly to Boston no?
That's why I removed Brandeis btw lol
to an extent i'd also say lehigh and uroch are the same
idk i don't go to tufts but general rule is if you have to go out of your way to do something/go somewhere, as a college kid you usually won't
yeah brandeis is 5x than tufts in that regard so good call
that's fair that was just one thing you mentioned that contrasted with a lot of your schools
Just access to opportunities for internship and stuff.
access to internships is super vague
you'll get that at literally any school on your list
actually all of your must-haves are pretty vague
And like I'll want to go to the city every once in a while
consider narrowing it down but also as an intl you may have to cast a wider net anyways
If it's much better than my current school (like 2hr by train to the city lol) then it's good enough
What should I consider?
I'd be happy going to literally any school on my list if it's affordable lol π
hahaha so definitely cost for thing
you have nothing on student life
just academics
i think most a2cers get really wrapped up in the academics and forget that they're choosing their next home for several years
consider what you might want that to look like
i mean tbh most unis do anyways
Wdym other facets of students life?
I heard Emory has bad weekend activities schedule so that's somewhat of a no for me
Cornell seems to fit all ur nonlocation criteria
weather? proximity to home, ease of travel? size? social scene? diversity?
Just, yeah, cornell its hard to leave campus or ctown during the academic periods
would you prefer res. colleges, greek life, or no social structure at all? things like that
yeah consider ease of transportation, walkability, especially if you plan on exiting campus
and again even if you have to apply to a bunch of colleges, keeping these preferences in mind will make it easier when you eventually have to choose one
Prefer warmer but I survived NE weather for 2 years alr so ig just not northern Maine, Texas or Florida, decent distance to any airport, don't like a school that is too serious on greek life.
Ok I'll remove Bates lol
all fair enough
idrk which schools have greek life but consider if it affects student body at all
big reason i chose rice is no greek life, for example
WFU greek is kinda serious for me but I heard they're trying to increase diversity and stuff. Also have lots of merit aid and solid ChemE prog
wfu greek is very. yeah
Is cornell just CWRU but further from a city, more northern, and ranked higher lol
Not at all
CWRU is my fav out of the matches
prolly cuz I attended like 4 of their info sess
But from what i gather its a lot a lot of premed
So much so that they give easy schollys to humanities students
Or some shit
To make them come
Cornell not so great for premed stuff, hard chem department
But good if ur into bio eng, bme, cheme
Cheme is strong
How many do u want it at
I think like 20-22 and I might add some later too lolll
Also I got in a t180 with the biggest school-wide merit scholarship and being considered for the department ones

Considering Amherst (for the money somewhat), Carleton and maybe UF
oh viet gang π
You're the 80k WFU person?
anyways saw chemE (im also thinking of doing chemE and transferring)
oh ye πΏ
Yeah the other day I asked for school recs and now I kinda went overboard
cant rmb lol
anyways
some good engineering schools i thoguht of are
reaches:umich
u alr have most of the great engineering schools so i can't add much
scholarship :>
Idt Mich gives good schollies
they do
i have 2 friends there
also cost isn't too high (72k)
if u can apply for external scholarship or other types
that'd prob bring it down to 40k or less
A LendingTree study looks at the 50 U.S. colleges that provide the largest financial aid packages. See where college students get more money for college.
think about these schools also
cuz they're known to give good aids :>
some schools in there are also great for eng stuff
some UCs should also be considered
like UCberk
No scholarships and I'm not gonna get Regents

fair lol
theres no scholarship for intl at UCs?
thats news
never knew
they do tho
they're like a few thousands only
oh welp
