REPOST! but i added a lot of new stuff

Current List:
Reaches: BU, Cal Poly, Harvey Mudd, Cornell, Duke
Target: UMass Amherst, Worcester Polytechnic, Case Western, Rochester Institute of Technology
Safeties: Rose Hulman(?)

Location/Region

From NJ, looking into anywhere that isn’t a red state unless I’m super into the school. Arab and gay (closeted, but still). I love cold weather. New England/East Coast > West Coast. Preferably the college would be in some proximity to a large-ish hospital for chemo treatment, but not necessary tbh I think I won't need it soon.

Major

Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering, ME is fine but I would prefer a school with an aero major or specialization. Not sure about minor. CS?

GPA

3.4 UW, no idea weighted. Mostly down because of humanities.

Tests

ACT: 35 comp 36 SS
SAT: 1590 (790R 800M)

Curriculum

I prefer more open, but I’m not opposed to structure. Looking for rigor though; I’m bored very easily.

Size

I prefer small. I’m not good with many people and I am vehemently opposed to the idea of lecture halls and impersonal teaching. I need to be hands-on.

Costs

Money is no issue for me.

Interests

Almost all of my ECs are major-related and I am very solid in my decision to pursue aero[fill in the blank]. I would consider them the strongest part of my app considering my sub-par GPA. Nonetheless I would like to be somewhere like that where I can research and learn on my own, but also access a larger support network. I have also done research in ML with a professor and would like to continue doing, maybe somewhere with a strong CS programs as well? But aerospace comes first.

Additional

I would love a good maker space and collaborative environment since I’m a big tinkerer and like messing with old hardware

These are schools with really outstanding aero programs or are great schools in general: Cornell University (earth & atmospheric sciences in their school of engineering, you would also learn a lot about what you'd need aero wise as a meche major, generally cornell has great aerospace studies and stargazing opportunities), Arizona State, University of Colorado Boulder, Case Western (close to NASA's Glenn Research center, so lots of opps to network with them), University of Minnesota, Purdue University (awesome at engineering), UIUC, Duke University (has aerospace concentration and fits your makerspace/collaborative criteria to the tea, it's also where I go currently so you're welcome to DM me if you have any questions).

Other safeties wise, I might look into Rochester Institute of Tech and Arizona State also has a high acceptance rate, which is nice.

So, I know that a good chunk of these are in red states, however, most are in metropolis areas and I've visited all of these schools and I'm from Ohio and I promise that the culture is SO SO different than when you get out into the rural areas. I go to school in a red state right now but it doesn't feel like that at all because of the campus environment. I will say no matter where you go to school, you're going to have students on campus with different political beliefs which can be frustrating, but you're always going to have the support from your university and will be able to pretty instantly find your people (at least with the schools that I listed here).

ty so much for this write up i am researching now 🫶 honestly a lot of my opinions could be considered more conservative its not rlly a political thing, its kind of more of a "i hate hot weather" + it's getting a bit crazy with laws rn (the drag queen shit is scaring me lol), tbh if i love a school i will prolly go no matter what. i was already looking at some of these so it's good to know other ppl r associating them with me
