Location/Region

  • I don't have a preference about location, but I prefer going somewhere not too rural (but Williams and Dartmouth both provide great financial aid, so I'm not sure)
    Major
Biochemistry or Chemical engineering, but I'm still choosing among life science fields. The school has to have good outcomes/programs in these fields.
    GPA/Test Scores
    3.9 UW, 1540 SAT (790 Math)
    Curriculum
    Not big core.
    Size
Less than 14:1 Students:faculty. Preferably less than 10k undergrad
    Costs
    40-50k/year incl living expenses
    Schools You're Currently Looking At
JHU, Pomona, RIT, Purdue, WUSTL, UDelaware (ChemEng)

Any other factors that you want to mention?
I prefer a rigorous learning environment but not overly competitive. Diversity is important. I'm CPS so I get some fee waivers.

Not applying to Penn btw

#

Too cut throat I think

gentle star
#

wake forest is pretty good (for chem engineering i think)

#

it kinda fit u with the small school, below 10k undergrad and students:faculty is 11:1

#

im doing my transfer app research too

#

this is my list so far

#

(tho im looking into both bus, psych and chem engineering)

#

i think UVA, USC, prob give more aid

#

and northwestern

#

cornell is also great for engineering

#

UIUC is also a great choice but idk if they give aid to oos

lethal iron
#

I know that if you apply to USC early there is merit based aid if you qualify. You'll know as they will set up an interview and around 90% of these people who did the interview get merit based aid

#

But only if you apply ea

gentle star
#

ye

#

ea is

#

sad for usc haha

#

its like 9% or sth acp rate

#

but their stats look good enough for usc

#

mb pull the GPA up a bit would be amazing

lethal iron
#

I mean. I'm lowkey a dumbass, but somehow got in ea and got a scholarship. They have better stats than mine for the most part lol

I have like 1 B+ (3.333) UW in Calc BC 10th and 11th. The rest are As (4.0). My 9th grade is another system tho

#

I have 9.1/10 which is like 30% in a very competitive school (I think like top 5 in second world-ish country for US matriculation)

#

Wake Forest doesn't give out any aid to international students, only merit scholarships

past garnet
#

Don't even look at CMU, you won't receive a penny from them

tacit salmon
#

And no UCs too

past garnet
#

You sure you can afford UDel/RIT?

tacit salmon
#

Del is 50k

#

It's like t5 ChemE I think

past garnet
#

Ok, great choice for ChemE

#

Yup

tacit salmon
#

And I'll get merit aid and stuff

#

Hopefully

past garnet
#

Industry connections are crazy

tacit salmon
#

I think my profile is at least bearable cuz I got QuestBridge CPS lmao

past garnet
#

Oh didn't know international students were eligible

tacit salmon
past garnet
#

Got you

#

Just wondering, you say Penn is too "cut-throat" but what do you mean by that?

#

You have Purdue/JHU in your list wouldn't they fall under that category?

tacit salmon
#

It's too competitive I heard

#

It's fine if it's rigorous but I want a collaborative environment

past garnet
#

Eh, I personally think you can find your group of collaborative people wherever you go

#

But sure, if you want to spend your college years in a more laidback environment, maybe Penn isn't the best option

#

But wouldn't say JHU is either

#

You know what I mean

tacit salmon
#

I know it's difficult at JHU

#

But I like how it has interdisciplinary stuff

#

I wanna explore different things like cultural studies and linguistics

#

And double-majoring isn't big at schools like pton or Penn?

#

I don't think I wanna work white collar

gentle star
#

sadly my school sucks

past garnet
gentle star
#

but ur stats and stuff can prob earn u a merit scholarship

past garnet
gentle star
#

ye

#

i mean not yet

#

but i will pay soon

past garnet
#

Why are you thinking of transferring already?

#

Thought Wake Forest was a great school

gentle star
#

it is

#

but its psych is mid

#

chem engineering is decent

#

business is great tho

#

thats why im just preparing to transfer

#

not thinking abt transferring yet

#

i gotta see if business/chem eng/psych

#

which one fits me most

past garnet
#

Just curious, because I haven't seen many international transfer applicants

gentle star
#

sadly

#

tho i might try to improve my stats or apply for external scholarships

past garnet
#

Hope your transfer apps go well

gentle star
#

i dont see why not
