Schools: CSUN vs UCSC
Intended major: Political Science
Similarities: Not many, but I have taken in-person tours of both campuses

CSUN

CSUN Pros:

  • 20 minutes from home
  • More affordable
  • Pretty good program for my major
  • I’m able to see my boyfriend
  • The dorms are far more livable than UCSC

CSUN Cons:

  • I haven’t received my financial aid package because they needed extra verification from me
  • I’m on the housing waitlist, which sucks because i wanted to dorm
  • The social life, from what i’ve heard, is pretty dead since it’s a commuter school
  • I don’t really like the campus’ look

UCSC

UCSC Pros:

  • Pretty decent for my major
  • BEAUTIFUL campus
  • I have gotten my financial aid + i have a college savings account with over 60k in it to help me pay, should i stay the 4 years
  • Job and internship opportunities are great because of proximity to silicon valley

UCSC Cons:

  • 5 hours from home
  • Would have to do long distance with my boyfriend which i dread since he’s staying in our hometown for college
  • The housing crisis is still pretty scary and the main reason i’m so hesitant to attend
  • I’m not a fan of the dorms (rooms look very cramped, even in triples or quads)

Any words of advice will help! I have to decide by tonight, tomorrow during the day by the latest and I’m so stressed 😓

i did long distance with my boyfriend for the whole school year when we were on opposite coasts and if it works through long distance, you can make it through anything! (i’m committing to the same school as him, he’s in the year ahead)

so, 5 hr drive when you’re in california is honestly not that bad because you guys could meet in monterey or something and hang out still
