Intended major: not sure yet but will be premed
Similarities: both have a smaller undergrad population, which is what I’m looking for so my classes won’t be too crowded

TCNJ
School 1 Pros:

  • closer to home
  • 31k with dorm
  • got offer to be Bonner Scholar(got a half-tuition scholarship; around 20% acceptance rate; 300 hrs non-clinical volunteering per year, social Justice stuff, etc)
  • can easily land a research opportunity and do meaningful research

School 1 Cons:

  • not that well known
  • bad food

CWRU
School 2 Pros:

  • has many hospitals surrounding it
  • amazing for research
  • connections
  • better premed advising

School 2 Cons:

  • really far from home/ unfamiliar location
    -56k/yr

I’m pretty much set on being premed, but I’m also worried that there may be a point where I might wanna switch professions. This is why I’m also undecided on my major too. CWRU does have more prestige compared to TCNJ, so if I end up going into a profession where prestige matters, CWRU would be a good fallback option for me. Also, cost isn’t too much of an issue since my parents will help me, but then again, I wanna be able to keep the costs at a minimum so I don’t overburden them.

I think either seems like a good choice
I’m not super familiar w the college of nj so would consider more how many pre-med resources and research opportunities are available for you there.

#

Especially since you got the Scholars program, you might be able to have priority access to certain research positions, internships, opportunities etc that you would have to compete more for at CWRU

#

if you aren’t as set on pre-med though, I would also look at what opportunities are available for you in other careers that may interest you at both schools

#

good luck w your decision!

I would pick CWRU personally (biased lol). Cleveland clinic is literally right across the street, profs are basically begging for ugs to do research in their labs (smth like 95% of profs do research so there’s an abundance of opportunities). There’s no +- system so you only need a 90 to get a 4.0, but if you get an 89 it is a 3.0 unfortunately. I would say CWRU is hands down better for pre med, but if you rly care about cost then it’s a tough decision.

#

the med school is also right next to campus and you can do research and stuff there if you land it

if cost is an issue tcnj

#

if not easily cwru

#

pre med at cwru is rly good

#

and freedom to double/triple major if pre med potentially doesnt work
