Location/Region: Close to or, preferably IN a city. (Preferably LA) Far from home (IL). Warm year round weather.
Major: Computer Science and Biomedical engineering double major OR majors that cross the two (bioinf/biotech/computational biomedicine, though majors like CBM are very niche and not offered at many schools) OR Comp sci major with some kind of biomed/bioinf minor
GPA/Test Scores (optional): 3.47 UW (probably worst part of my app, though it should be a bit higher after this semester and 1st sem year) 4.24 W. Just took the SAT but got a 1490 on psat so hopefully will have an SAT 1560+
Curriculum: Rigorous and high quality education, but not the environment of something like CMU.
Size: Not a huge factor for me but pref larger colleges over smaller ones. Class size is also negligible.
Costs: Doesn’t matter for the most part but if the tuition is high it should be worth it (not paying 50k+ for a no name instate school)
Schools you're currently looking at (if any): Every UC except Merced, Caltech, UWash, USC, Cal Poly, Stanford. Less research done but still considering: Harvey Mudd, GA Tech, Emory, UTAustin, UIUC, Illinois Wesleyan. UChicago for fun because of legacy
Additional: Major BONUS if a university has a very good and well developed esports team (even better if they offer scholarships) as I intend to play collegiate overwatch and already have experience in the path-to-pro scene. I am around top 3%-top 1% of players. Also want to be able to be a pioneer for girls in esports :). Irvine is at the top of my list because of this.
Universities with a lot of greek life and football and party culture are a decent turn off but if they have other redeeming qualities (USC) it doesn’t matter.
Love modern architecture with lots of natural light and windows. Walkable campus also great quality. Colleges with good campus food and housing are also ofc great.
