Deciding between these schools for MS in mechanical engineering, except for NYU which is a M.S. Mechatronics and robotics. For sheer online rankings, it seems UCSD > USC > UW > NYU. For what I want to do academically (medical robotics specializing in prosthesis and exoskeletons), UW > NYU > UCSD > USC.

I’d worry far less about which is best, and go with the advisor you think fits best. Your advisor will have FAR more impact on your academic career than ranking will.
