I heard UT Austin isnt bad for flute but not sure on that
what level are you at for perf
juilliard/curtis?
Check out Carleton or other liberal arts colleges
I’m not sure the band is at a high level though
I wouldn’t recommend lacs for music outside of oberlin and Laurence if he wants the conservatory experience
And Wheaton maybe, there’s some other ones too
Wesleyan too, to a lesser extent
Then go for Wesleyan
Or CMU
Juilliard? Berklee?
@analog sorrel also try to get as much financial&merit aid as possible 150K in loans for undergrad would be really really bad if you end up being full pay
At a private
where you apply is highly dependent (daresay, effectively solely) on your faculty preferences and rigor
top/great music schools off the top of my head, go vet them yourself:
USC, Colburn, UT Austin, UNT, Baylor, Rice, Northwestern, UMich, Juilliard, Eastman, Manhattan, Curtis (lol the uber-elite train), Berklee/NEC, CMU, Vanderbilt, UMiami, UNC, UIndiana
can look at some arbitrary rankings, though they have some valid reasons: e.g. https://musicschoolcentral.com/best-colleges-for-flute-performance-in-the-us/
UIndiana 😭 IU Jacobs is solid
To add on, look at JHU Peabody, Oberlin, and NYU as well
LOL
