#Caltech (2022-2023)
1 messages Ā· Page 5 of 1
did you submit the fine aid form?
apparently caltech has a student-run community garden lol
most of my stuff is astro/math/physics and the rest is just policy and arts
thatās very neat tbh
The flower is pretty though
do you mind sharing ur stats in dms if you want to :p im curious now
yess
the design of modern robots always makes me feel comfort in them for some odd reason
@fading harbor dude?
they're so friendly looking
ikr
like look at that thing with legs
esp the one veritasium covered on yt recently
lmao yes
i just want to be part of the caltech robosub team T_T
veritasium is so cool
i didnāt know who he was when i met him
i kind of regret that
Wait you met him?
When
Damn that's soo cool
veritasium not cool
so many mistakes in his videos. does like research solely to make a video on one topic lol
i think he majored in English
it was actually kinda funny. he had this graph on the stages of knowledge and confidence (childās hill, the valley, and then gaining more actual knowledge)
and he was kind of saying outlandish things
but i thought he was really cool
sure, he def seems like a charming guy
he said he really liked researching new things and didnāt want to be constricted to one so thatās why he did youtube
admirable
oh is that the pop science guy
Which form?
The CSS or something else?
Actually I didn't even submit the CSS as I got an email that said, "It is okay to wait until you hear from Admissions before submitting the CSS Profile. If you are admitted, we will be able to work closer with you."
Damn ssp is so cool
when are decisions going to / speculate to come out?
4th march
speculated or confirmed?
spec
I see
Guys please stopš
@inner pond
look internation aid page and deadlines
Ig it's only the CSS and Non-Tax Filer(if applicable)
ya so you aren't gonna fill that?
I didn't submit the CSS yet to Caltech because of that mail.
I thought I'd get to know earlier if I'm getting in if they ask for it before admission decision release.
haha
cool
what are yall gonna do after caltech decisions (i.ie how'll you guys cope with rejection / celebrate acceptance)
ib exams
spend my weekend coping and seething
̶l̶e̶t̶s̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶r̶e̶a̶l̶
if i get rejected i shal cope by getting laid, i get in i shall celebrate by getting laid
FRC Robotics competition. I'm considering just waiting until after to view my decision so it doesn't prove distracting, but I doubt I have the self-control to do that.
real answer is i'll prolly be focusing on other stuff like catching up in classes or considering where to go
when would the caltech email come out today if it did btw?
based as fuck
shashtag with the rizz
I've always wanted to do FRCš
after MIT rejection I'm going camping with some friends
caltech is looking like it won't be this weekend
Heck yeah rust
Also odds are itāll be the 11th
4th is def a bit early
Iirc, (e: when it's time for the decision to be released) the checklist thing disappears from the (e: everyone's) portal, and Caltech sends out an email 48-72h in advance (e: usually around the same time)
If you don't hear anything by like Thursday, it's def not happening
@floral silo no portal astrology pls, ty
i uploaded a resume, it's pretty late but i thought something more comprehensive might help if theyre still considering materials so w/e
i don't think it would hurt anyways
What does iirc mean?
iirc = "if i remember correctly"
thanks
18489203981th reason why I want to attend Caltech š
Caltech date yet?
You have prolly got it!
what?
Wait did you get that email from Caltech or it was a reply?
reply
I asked them
Ahh then nvm
wish it was this way all year round lol
Rule 5: Portal astrology/speculation: "A checklist disappeared on my portal! Does that mean I've been rejected?" Any discussion about whether or not material you've received or a change related to your college portal means you've been accepted/rejected/etc. is not allowed.
Except the thing I mentioned has zero to do with being accepted or rejected, just when the release date is
So this should be outside the definition of Rule 5
Arguably, the etc. covers this edge case, so in my further defense, this wasn't a statement about my (or anyone else's) specific portal, just the Caltech portal in general
And okay, while I did say iirc, this is the pattern that has legitimately held the past 5 years at least (if not longer, it was a known thing when I was applying in 2018), and I believe Caltech Admissions has confirmed that the disappearance from the portal is an indication that decisions are about to come out, although they have more recently been sending an email much closer to when the checklist disappears that confirms the release is imminent, usually by specifying a time the decisions will come out. If I need to cite my sources on this, I will, but the "iirc" I used is pretty near certainty for me given the amount of time I've spent 1) at Caltech and 2) on A2C
</rant>
it's funny because that's not even portal astrology š
Ya the mod messed up lol
this is gorgeous
Like decision date email
idt its out yet
it's not
what time did it come last year?
Noon pst, but occasionally admissions picks funny times like 6:28, 12:34, etc
They should tell you the exact time when they email about the date a few days before the release.
probably
I donāt get how ppl think Iām a mod when Ive literally been campaigning FOR mod. Lmao
Thanks for clarifying Simon. Itās not explicitly outlined in the rules but it is portal speculation that hints at decisions coming soon. Yea its not a sign of a reject or accept, but it is based off of data from past years.. The whole idea of portal astrology is making predictions off of what happened in the past, regardless of whether it's true or not.
what have i done to you?
you are an opp bro
you alr said this like 5 mins ago and someone deleted it (not me)
i think everyone agrees with me
@candid shale if you want to bust people for portal astrology you should be in the Yale thread, itās a 24/7 pity fest with finaid & portal speculation
imo I think simon is in the right here
it wasnāt speculative if it was affirmed by caltech
Calypso is my goat
Well I didnāt know that context before hand.
Iām not flaming anyone. If anything youāre the one doing most of the flaming.
Benz is that problematic ex
Notice how youāre replying to my same comment over and over again.
@candid shale ily but youāre not going to get anywhere arguing with people in this thread
so as an REA deferral, i'll say what happened before rea decisions
the email was sent on the Tuesday week of decisions (4 days prior)
the night before, for a few hours a "deferred FAQ" popped up, i assume it was a bug because it disappeared later (but everyone who got deferred had that bug)
checklist did not disappear iirc (they also switched portal design this year)
and they released 12/10 8:06am pst so if it's 3/11 it'll be some funny numbers for the time
hope that helps
i think 3/11 is probable but since they added REA this year, they will have a lot more RD applications that usual (those who didn't want to REA but still want to do RD, who would've EAed before)
and given recent trends of admissions numbers i think 3/18 is quite likely too
7 mins...
It probably wonāt be 3/18, since Caltech always has to beat MIT which is on 3/14 every year
..what?
Oh in possible reference to 6:28 pst
No thatās when the actual decisions might be released, admissions sends emails announcing things during pst business hours (9-5)
nah the date is 02/03 - dd/mm here
we have the whole day
where?
in India
haha i'm crossing my fingers for that, is it a rule that caltech admissions office set? or is it just tradition
but very very unlikely it's 3/4
imo
too many applications and they did say mid march
even with 8 essays and REA i wonder if their numbers still went up... gotta wait 3 years for the CDS to find out i suppose
I definitely think it wonāt be this week
I definitely think itāll be next weekend though
Hey guys, not portal astrology
But I am seeing some date changes in my Caltech portal. Is it only me, or does it happened to someone else too?
I know the final decision is the decision. I am just curious.
What dates changed?
English exam?
For the English thing yes even my dates are changed
But it is not indicative of anything
hmm intl
My application fee date changed
anyone else?
Ok this is actually some astrological looking discussion
nah nah
I am sorry if it felt like that I was just super curious and afraid
@candid shale trying his best to spot some astrology
š
haha lol
So since we didn't get an email from CalTech it's most likely 11th right?
Anyone else?
Benz be like
hahah
I paid benz a peanut
@steel falcon hey carly how are u? working on that portal?
But it's seriously troubling should I contact caltech about it
Also if anyone else facing it?
was it just your english test?
?
@floral silo can't argue
i think this kid is drunk
?
guys, please don't do any type of portal astrology, it's not a mentally healthy thing to do. When the day comes, it will come lol
Nothing financial aid impacts ur decision this early, stop speculating
financial aid? I asked about the date dude
changing dates in the portal similarly means nothing
What have i missed, i was too busy failing an abstract algebra exam
*nothing
bruh why wonāt my messages send
you have missed nothing other than portal astrology and simon getting accused
gollum and failing an abstract algebra exam don't go together
+1
nah I was just afraid lol
Like why did it change suddenly
who said it means something?
My professor just emailed me "Thank you, this course has been nice, I will get back to you with your scores later" š me probably scoring 4/30
If you scored 4/30, I might have got a -1 prolly.
I got a 23.5/30 on the pre exam test which was horrifying because you need to get 25 in order to pass
out of 30??? lol thatās insane
i smh choked on some problems, i had the right formula and my brain just stopped working š
my teacher whoās like 24 and i were talking about discrete math sincd she took the same class and she said it was a joke š
š
i know sheās rlly smart but sheās also my hs art teacher like..
lol no, i sent a thank u email to my professor and i hope he doesnt respond because i made weird jokes about discrete math
cds is strange
i didnāt know they put so much emphasis on recs
and test scores altho theyāre test blind
Ig this should be for last year
This year it won't be the same
Once they release cds
Yeah but it's strange
They put a lot of emphasis on test scores and then suddenly went test blind
this is 21-22
so last year
they went test blind in 2020
Ahh I didn't know that, mb
Does standardized test scores refer to AP exams or the SAT when it used to be considered
they donāt consider ap scores either
Are you sure? I never saw that anywhere
although its interesting how gpa and class rank arent in the most important category but rigor is
i think this emphasizes students challenge themselves as opposed to seeking the top gpa
makes sense
maybe they mean english proficiency
yep
mines been on that for weeks
That just says they arenāt required, not that they arenāt considered
Iām almost certain they consider AP Scores
But for some schools, it is hidden when you look at the submitted file. That doesnāt mean they donāt consider/didnāt receive it.
I see
yeah idk then
I barely took any APs because i did a bunch of dual enrollment and IB diploma program
so i just flat out didnāt submit scores
Is anyone here competing in the Mathworks Math Modeling Competition this weekend?
i think they only mean something for credit to almost every school
itās just proving math competence
Mhm
slate doesn't show caltech for me
idk whatās going on with caltech and slate
iād just leave it
people are being speculative on reddit too
Caltech
MIT be the first choice, but caltech do be the second
are you a prefrosh?
or is it just a pun in your name, it's probably that lol
Caltech and Yale portal astrology š
Ig its everywhere now lol
ya
just a pun haha
Idk but my slate for caltech has been like that since mid January
I highly doubt it means anything
what if they give you a waitlist instead
so that you have to wait even longer to move on
assume you won't get off cause no one got off the waitlist last year
š
just about how many people even manage to get off the waitlists in top schools?
More students appear to be waitlisted in 2022 from competitive colleges than ever before. But does that mean you have better odds of getting off that waitlist? Not necessarily. With test optional policies, data reveals that in 2021 (and 2022) students are applying in droves to competitive universities. More applicants means more rejections, and ...
this website has that data
Bumping this about portal astrology lol
Actually, a few people do get off the waitlist
that would be the years prior to last year.
By last year do you mean like for the people who are first year students now?
yea
If so yeah people did get off the waitlist last year
This is on Caltech's common data set, for last year
Wow so ~0% chance if you're on a waitlist.
Caltech waitlist odds depends a lot on whether they estimated yield correctly
Some years weāve had like 15-20 off the waitlist, some years 0
One of the problems we have is limited amounts of space on campus bc small school, and every 3-4 years we get a bubble year, where we get like 250-260 people committed instead of the 235 target, and that makes a surprisingly large difference
Given that weāve changed to rea this year, I think our yield will be kinda wacky, so Iād hope admissions overestimates yield to not have problems with this, so this might be a waitlist heavy year
Iām also pretty sure they do consider AP scores. One of the things the prefrosh always stress about is having to do the AP tests end of senior year. Caltech sends some scary email thatās like āyouād better do as well as youāve been doing on your senior AP tests or weāll be upsetā and everyone freaks out over getting rescinded. Idt itās actually happened, but I think they might put you on academic probation or in a remedial writing course if you do bad on AP English
:( Is it bad if I didnāt submit AP scores? I will have IB scores in July (taking exams in may) but my school barely offers any stem APs so i wasnāt able to take any
I took 3 APs prior and am taking ap physics this yr (highest stem ap my school offers)
My teachers havenāt finished legitimizing predictions yet
i think i probably forgot to fill it out bc when i go to the section it doesn't show me as reporting any scores for some reason
Iād be 40+ but theyāre not in yet so I canāt say anything
so did it reset????
could be
Iām not entirely sure
if I did submit, I just submitted a 4 in human geo
and said that iām taking my ib exams + an ap physics exam this yr
If you didn't take the classes, then no
It's like adding an additional grade for the course basically
I think they won't count it against you if you don't submit them, but like, submitting a bunch of fives in addition to excellent grades should reenforce the academic qualifications
should I have submitted my dual enrollment transcripts?
most of my dual enrollments (all but one) are listed on my hs transcript
Great question
It's prob too late at this point
But I think generally you're supposed to
I'm sure they figured it out tho
I take them directly at a CC, although I took discrete math 2nd semester and my hs didnāt put it on my transcript. They also massively fucked up my midyear, which my counselor emailed all of my schools about, but it hasnāt been updated either RIP
I think my counselor only submitted my college transcripts to MIT
hopefully
my theory is that if they wanted them theyād ask
Do they even receive ap scores via common app?
Yeah ig it is in the application(check the pdf)
It doesnāt show any test scores there
I sent them in the STEM honors and awards section along with other awards cause Caltech was the only college which had an extra section for this stuff.
Other colleges acceptrd AP scores through the CommonApp directly.
i remember there's a section for it on common app but it didnt show for me either
just being weird
Yeah there's a section to add AP scores on CommonApp but I'm very sure Caltech doesn't receive them per their test blind policy
oh interesting
That's was more so meant for AMC and what not iirc
that makes a lot more sense honestly
it seems odd schools would consider AP test scores for anything other than credit + drastic drop in effort
thanks for clearing it up tbh i thought i fucked up on my ap scores section of the common app
Yeah no worries
Yeah along with my other scores I just put the AP scores as wellš
While submitting the common app, it said that AP scores, even if submitted won't be visible on the submitted pdf
Oh thatās Fall 2021 lol
Fall 2022 is last year
a) aren't out today
b) if they were they'd be coming to you the next day cuz time zones exist
Or maybe they forget?
not likely tbh
Haha jk
it would be funny if true though
Ya
hey everyone, do we know when caltech comes out
there's no date yet but it's predicted to be next saturday, caltech will release an email 48-72 hours about the date before decisions release
ah cool thanks
I hope they actually release in the 11th and not later like they 18th. I really donāt want to keep waiting.
Same
they will 99% be releasing next weekend
they never release after mit
ok
Anyone know what time next weekend?
6:28pm pst
I thought it was am?
it wonāt be out todayā¦?
they didnāt send an email
i donāt think it would be 6:28 EST
if anything it would be 9:28 EST
but i seriously doubt itās out today lol
my checklist is still in the portal
no pst cal tech is pst
it wonāt be out today
how do you know this info is real
i would legit have a heart attack if they came out today (but they wonāt)
There's no way it's today, that person was probably joking or something.
Just FYI, I don't think slate means anything. It still shows complete but not decided for an application where the admissions decisions were already released.
i've heard slate is just wrong for people
oh nvm you just said that i didn't read it
but yeah there's been people who have been accepted to colleges and it still shows as undone
Yeah, this is the second time this has happened to me. I had another one where slate said my application was still "in progress"(it still does).
Nothing changes when I do that
If a decision has been made and said decision has been updated on Slate (notice the and operator), then it'll say something like "decided" or "decision made" it seems
Like "completed" here recently changed to "decision made" for one of my Unis
I can't see the decision tho since it hasn't been posted to my portal yet
fr no one from my school has ever even applied much less gotten accepted
But like how everyone's saying, it's clear that a lot of schools aren't updating application statuses on Slate so tbh dw about what Slate says. Just wait a bit more for the decision to be released on portal :)
but I'm gonna be a trail blazer and be the first one to be rejected š
lol imagine if a school made a trolling decision letter
like they would go did you get in? click to find out
and when you click it, it says LMAO no
LOL
and then rick rolls you
whats your stats if you dont mind me asking?
sat doesnāt matter for caltech
but yeah
mine is decided too, iām 4.0 UW 4.7 W with 14 natl awards, a few regional, and 1-2 intl
i still donāt think it means anything
did you get rural & small town scholar from collegeboard?
your school should also be listed as āruralā or ārural fringeā
if so, then ur rural
š
so youāre not rural
Me: Worst they can do is reject me
Shashtag: We've got better plans
Iām trying to figure out why some people are in the decided section while others are in the completed section on slate (Iām in decided). Lmao
Iām probably overthinking this we will know in a week lol
nope. just no.
@empty summit you sure it's out today?
I did, it says complete
hey has anyone's toefl and application fee date changed? i submitted it way earlier, should i contact Caltech if they hadn't received them earlier?
Yeah drop them an email. My status changed the day I submitted my Duolingo score.
huh wait what status ? but yes shall drop email , thank you
The date
yh its odd, i definitely checked if they had gotten it way back in jan
but it suddenly shows 18 feb
dont worry, my duolingo dates changed too, its fine
It might be because they reviewed the scores then.
Just chillš„¶
ok so its everyone
not everyone, but some yeah,
its nothing tho dw
i have 0 anxiety cuz i have accepted my eventual rejection as intl needing aid
Yeah but you could drop an email if it calms your nerves. Anyways Caltech is pretty chill

caltech orz
***Caltech is a myth!! It does not exist. ***
so decisions is most likely the 11th, meaning that we'll get an email on Wednesday or Thursday
it also means it is less than a week!
not 10?
cuz friday
the faqs do mention it being a saturday
so true bestie
guys so umm i went back to 2021 texts
and they did release it the next day
without any notification
Ahh man I want to get over with this rejection already.
xd soon
Does anyone know what time (PST) caltech releases RD decisions/
6:28 pm
isn't that MIT?
why 1:59???
3.14159
oh i see
Definitely pi digits
Ik REA was at 8:06AM PST
I'm really starting to regret procrastinating/being too lazy to submit a research portfolio despite research being a huge portion of my application. They will certainly think I fabricated or exaggerated things without it and Caltech is my 'dream' school.
I thought itās AM from past releases
rlly? wouldnt that be too early? i mean the Admissions office is closed at that time
oh shit
caltech email
saturday march 11th 2023
it's at 8:31 PST
to match the R in PV = nRT
Oh ty
Yeah I saw the pic didnāt know the answer
8:31
@lament dew
yeah
wouldnt usethe other one
universal gas constant right
ya
Probably 8:31am š
chem moment
R = 8:31 L atm / mol * k
so likely 8:31am
they're releasing during my calc class
a(t)m
oh wait
good luck
senior pictures
this is the gas constant
i mean it depends
what if they used diff units like in terms of atm it is 0.082 ryt? but ya 8:31 makes most sense
what if its all of them
no i bet its pm
plus est or pst ?
bro its 8:31
Its probably 8.31 coz SI unit
I'm assuming AM, PST?
L atm / mol K is the one we always used anyway lol
what is caltech
i applied REA and my decision didnt come out yet
fr?
Do u think theyāre still finalising decisions like the mail says
definitely are
slate says decided for me
not for caltech
yes
prolly final committee
my slate's been on decided since like january 10th
my slate does NOT show caltech at all š
yeah mineās been decided since jan 22
Same for me
i donāt think it means anything
i think it's just weird and random
slate is just wonky as hell
slate is cracked tbh
it says my fsu is "complete" but not decided...
its really good at stitching together application stuff
it was decided like a month+ ago
half the colleges i have decisions from are still awaiting/completed lol
I mean, we may be able to figure out if it meant something after decisions are released.
doubt but idk
this week is exciting and nauseating because i hope some star aligns in the heavens for caltech to begin to consider me š
it still doesn't show me all my colleges
i've heard from UIC, Xavier, Oklahoma, and Tulsa
Huh, I wonder why it doesn;t show up on mine.
slate is just wonky
Did everyone get that email? For the release time?
yep
yes
got email from caltech
Weird because I didn't
@tall fable only good candidates
šæ
I emailed the AO asking if Slate meant anything, but she ignored my email lol(it was from an account not associated with my application obviously).
šš
it would be 7.22 IG
donāt listen to him
8:31
dude why the fuck would u email
wait listen
so what time is caltech coming, they did not mention it
8:31 am
was it wrong?
Bruh whag
damn
bro what
what is that math
lol
someone send this to his AO
I got it somewhere
8-9AM ig
The math isn't mathing
my brain hurts, why would you do that
just enjoy your saturday and donāt speculate
the math aint mathing
Those arent ratios its the time lmao
shit u made the joke first
no
with what?
lol itās a time
i think it's probably just 8:31
The ideal gas law is: pV = nRT, where n is the number of moles, and R is universal gas constant. The value of R depends on the units involved, but is usually stated with S.I. units as: R = 8.314 J/molĀ·K. This means that for air, you can use the value R = 287 J/kgĀ·K.
8.31 is the most common unit
ya but check this "?:??"
nah anah i just saw it twi question marks either they messed up or huh
istfg caltech AOs are out rthere laughing saying hahahah watch those nerds nerd out over this
we've gone down the overthinking road
Any deferred applicants who received that email?
caltech nerds nerding out in the nerd channel
ong guys it says april 11th
no it doesn't it is proably 8:31
plot twist:
AOs still havent made decisions on some apps and an undercover ao is observing this channel, anyone who cracks the code gets in
11th marck
So @inner pond is getting in?
stil dont get where the 60 pop from ?
itās simon

that's hour to minutes
hmmmm
dude
But why divideš
cuz they gave ratio ?:?? where ?=8.314
idk, imo its just 8:31 and we're a bunch of overly anxious 17 year olds
tell me first
Please save me lord
guys stop
we will see
annoyed beaver noises intensify
dude are u stupid?
please just relax
why?
bro doesnt know time
lol i stikk think it is 8:31 was just explaining what some think it might mean
that's a math
to calculate the time
they didn't just said "?:??" as time
we can replace "?" with the value of R
pls relax
If u wanna go down that road⦠a question mark isnt considered a variable š
But they use it in place of R
we will see
Oh and am vs pm too
Its like a fill in the blank
ya
no they didnt, its literally a simple "fill in the blanks with these values" intended as a 5 second science joke and we managed to...
not a math symbol
I am going for 7.22 you guys come I hours later
Is Caltech decided for you?
am since itās not specified (24h)
Yeah I was just being sarcastic
it's like, either way, regardless of the time, i'm still gonna have a stroke over this š
probably not gonna open it until i'm done with my senior pics, need these instagram photos to pop anyways š
yeah
itās ok
i expect 3 rejections within the next week
expect the worst hope for the best
gonna get the mit mail tomorrow too.. (probably)
just curious, how many of you guys would rather want a WL over a rejection
(may we all get in but anyways)
Ig I don't care about the decision relase cause I'm gonna be rejected anyways.
i donāt want hope but iāll take it over a rejection
Nope that's just pain
especially because caltech will probably be wacky with yield this year
Don't want false hope so I'll go with a rejection
me
everyone from my school's been rejected so it'd be a slight W?
Kinda depends on the other decisions too tbh... If u prefer the WL college over your best acceptance
i would want a WL because personally i think i am close to one of the first people ever to apply to caltech from my school in the past ~8 yrs
my harvard interviewer
said that when he applied to caltech for undergrad
he had a nasa internship and practically nothing else
so iām hoping my research clutches
but it probably wonāt clutch that hard
when did they apply?
š
ignore the one acceptance, counselor confirmed that no one's gotten in yet lmao
LOL so someone just lied
ig so
i think i tried asking my ao a question a few days ago and no response but i expected it š
Me
can i read people's essays i haven't read yet š i need an idea of what other people were like!
Isnāt it 8:31? The 6:18 thing doesnāt work because it isnāt the gas constant
it's def 8:31
8:31 just fits very well
XD
and the decimal point separates it
Yee
8.31 pm?
maybe
AM
prolly am
Ok
Does anyone else have this on their portal?
I have 'Accepted' lol
congrats on your 'acceptance'
"Thanks"
Acceptance into the rejected students club
Does anyone's portal shows incomplete app?
I mailed them for English proficiency waiver and they said they would review my app without that but they didn't updated my portal with that waive sign
what if the R is for 'rejected' and not the gas constant
Call them prolly
Ok
I love how they release the decision time this way
ikr
Statistically, only 4 people in this channel are gonna get accepted
i thought iād get fucked over but apparently 8 people (4 of which were from my campus last year) got into caltech
probably less than 1
just that nobody matriculates
does caltech consider the school's previous stats in application
i.e how many ppl were accepted b4
i hope tf not
57% of ppl who applied to caltech from my campus got in last year
so i shall be on slight copium
this is literally astronomical chances again š
i HAVE nothing to cope with because my school has no t20 people
My school has never had a single person go/get into to Caltech or any other top school for that matter. I live in a relatively uncompetitive state, but there is a nationally ranked school nearby that sends ~3-5 kids to Caltech per year, 5-10 per year to MIT, 5-15 per year to Stanford, and a lot to the Ivys. I wonder if this will impact my chances.
except one stanford
since weāve had 0 acceptances to caltech so far š
Wouldnāt that be part of a consideration to your context?
same
1 MIT
1 Yale
1 Harvard
my school has had one dartmouth and thatās it
iām looking at other metrics
ofc my school is rural title I hs
so weāre not gonna send everyone to a t20
My school had 2 Stanfords this year, and 1 Harvard last year
Thats wild
My school out in Iowa manages to send at least one person every year to mit, no oneās gotten into Caltech ever though
my school is a private catholic school but we have nobody going to elite schools
My school has had 2 to MIT 5 and 9 years ago but none to Caltech
same
if i got into caltech id be curled up in a ball crying ab the opportunity š
cause of how great it would be
unfortunately the vast majority of us will be rejected by nature
caltech for astrophysics + EAPS š
we'll just know in like ~5 days
i'll probably have just woken up
or been awake for a few hrs
depends on if i stay up late saturday
Me too
getting into caltech is cool, but the mental burden will be insane. You're gonna have to work twice as hard as someone from Stanford or Harvard would
at the same time i really love learning so i wouldn't mind if I got Cs or Bs
it's not an issue if other people do better cause in the end we'll all end up where we want to be and deserve to be
not stanford
successful stanford entrepreneurs probs work the hardest
fine by me ššš
wait, my portal just looks like it did yesterday
throw me in the pit iād gladly be in there with a bunch of sharks whoāll turn me into JPL material
̶i̶s̶n̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶g̶o̶a̶l̶
ig it is inspected
actually I think if I went to caltech I would be the first completely deaf student to attend caltech
i'm trying to look up if there were any others but there doesn't seem to be
decisions is just a cover up for caltech to study anthropological effects of cross species metamorphosis
yes but sometimes trying to reach that goal can seriously scar your mental and physical health. For example, the exam curve will be harsh since there's gonna be these math prodigies in your class, so passing will become harder too.
me this weekend
not lime lips š
alright buddy
give meh mah lime ;-;
this is like my good luck charm for getting in. whatever i do will be decided by this thing
if i donāt pull either caltech or mit life is rigged
being fr odds are about 50/50 at both
if i donāt get one i should have a higher chance of getting the other because i said so
dude shut up
source: me
im just joking
i hope you have to choose between both of them tbh
monkey see
50/50 because you either get rejected or accepted
50/50 because you either get rejected or accepted
š
50/50 because you either get rejected or accepted50/50 because you either get rejected or accepted50/50 because you either get rejected or accepted
why did it send again
thanks @inland bane
you should pin this @inland bane š„°
also yeah same
gl to everyone
its technically a 33.3333333/33.3333333/33.3333333
caltech is a 50/50 chance: 50 you get in, 50 you don't
Schrodinger's college decisions
indeed
Will find out on Saturday š
the wave function
After Caltech chose R over Ļ, Math felt bad and left the chat
when does mit release
š©āš¬
because people are still in school
They'll officially announce it tmr tbf
when mit will come out?
Yeah
I hope MIT gives a fun math problem to solve for the release time too, like finding the derivative at x=13
Derivative of (6.28/26)x^2 at x=13
Haha
Don't care going to get rejected either way
Itās gonna be am
8:31pm pt is too late latest Iāve ever seen is 6pm pt
Plus they have a history of earlier in the day releases
coolio
finally a decision I get to see on time without ruining my sleep schedule lol
10:01pm to burn my dreams :D
am*
Maybe 6:24 (mmHg*L/Mol*k) idk
10:01pm IST = 8:31am PST
oh wtf
i did not consider how big of a time gap that was for you
sorry for trying to correct you š
thats why I mentioned "without ruining my sleep schedule"
most decisions come out at 3:30 or 4:30am for me š
š
(including the shift in day light saving saving time that occurs soon, incase it looks off by 1 hour)
Oh yeah bc for some reason India decided to move their time zone to the half hour
actually can you explain that is there a reason
the same reason every time zone is different?
Its not just india, a significant amount of locations have time differences in multiples of 30's rather than one hour
No like most time zones are exactly a round number of hours off of GMT
Just cause I guess
I get to set my alarm early to wake up on saturday to what will likely be a rejection
No sleepy for me
Just want one acceptance thats not Utah and not conditional
11:31am for me
I don't even care which school anymore š
all da best
if you get rejected, whats the new name
and if you get accepted, ggs
mitypso
ofc
every universitypso
manifesting
northeasternypso

neuypso
@lament dew what if you get rejected by all of them
UAzypso
nah Iāll just be
wait when does UA stop rolling admissions even
i need to apply still
Calypso - UofA ā27
my parents were like
"fine you can apply i guess but if you don't get good aid/scholarship money š"
april? i think
Cal(state dominguez hills)ypso
I want to travel around for admitted students days (i canāt do uofa since itās $700 per person to fly out)
Viijt - Caltech '27??
so iām hoping i bag an east coast school or two and if i get into caltech ill 99.9% fly out for their admitted students day
YEAHH WE'RE ALL GOING THERE BABYYY
3% acceptance rate? NAH
I'm not delusional you are
itās 50/50
If I get into caltech I am immidiately withdrawing any application below the 4th ranking
you get in or you donāt
like not even waiting a singular minute
bruh if i get into caltech iāll have to restrain myself
shrodingers decision
someone will have to hold me back
bro how is cal that high
i donāt want to withdraw my apps
but like if i get into caltech iāll probably impulsively withdraw
like NO wait for finaid offers
me personally cal would be in the 16 puddle
diff. preferences, I really like the school and it fits most of everything I look for in a school ā except less tudents = kinda ded vibes
true
but other than that, it fits everything I would want
stanford is the true fit of everything I want āĀ but I doubt I am even slightly a fit for them though
how do you put those icons
MIT on top cuz I stan MIT
