listen the uc system is a little scuffed, i know kids with ib 34/45 that got into ucla. I have no idea how. I know their EC list. Absolute garbage. but at the same time: me, some cool fellas here and about 8 of my other pals with 43/45+ got waitlisted
for schools like UCLA "luck" as you call it is a big factor
they have a lot more applicants than other schools, and hence they have a larger amount of AO
and hence you get more personal bias, we all have it unfortunately its in our human nature
