as someone who has not opened results from either school, i think i agree with this. this doesn't mean the undergrad experience is necessarily better (as berkeley is very crowded), but berkeley has a lot of prestige from its research output, especially with older people. cornell is prob the strongest eng/cs in the ivies, but berkeley is a known as stem-oriented research place where lots of prominent researchers are in-residence
