#UIUC!!! (2022-2023)
1 messages Ā· Page 26 of 1
yeah
I got that from the general tour
i think they give it out for all the tours/sessions
90 min
90 mins
Are there nearby hotels to stay
Yea thereās a bunch u can find smthing
Mine was 10 mins away from campus but ik there r closer ones
omg the amount of different tours in incredible
wtf
theres a different tour for each major
and multiple program open houses
No I didnāt go yet
It was p nice I got sum pictures
yep
in the auditorium
donāt they change color
My parent said it was some lgbtq thing
When I went they were green
Who cares ur indoors already
And just sit in the same place where someone just sat if you really want heated seats lol
i actually really liked uiuc but the price for oos is crazy
True
Yeah 61k
its cool either way
i mean the other schools are all like 87k coa
I didnāt apply financial aid. They emailed me saying I would get a scholarship
the ones i applied to i mean
Those donāt look like wires
they emailed me saying I get $0
i got like $500
loans or like an actual scholarship
How much is in state?
37kish
Lol. Maybe they ware rolling them out.
Ik cs people who got the scholarship email last week
same
30k in loans
im not going to get anything both bcs CE is too competitive and cost of living in my area is really high
Oh so I got one cuz ee admissions is kinda chill?
ive no idea
Yeah ce is competitive. 20%
it probably has more to do with cost of living since no cs or engineering admit I know got a scholarship
or maybe something else
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
why would ur area's cost of living affect scholarships tho
i also live in a high cost area
arguably one of the most expensive places in the country
like I said idk what they are considering for this since basically everyone admitted should be similar academically
ec
yeah I donāt think oos people get merits unless you cured cancer
Anyone know whatās going on at Hopkins?
prolly someone got drunk from unofficial and did something stupid?
oh
nevermind then
shit
It looks kinda serious
plz dont be a gun threat
oh shoot let me check if im on illini alert
ah
what's the source?
bruh people with rifles tho??
i dont believe i get illini alerts bc im not student status atm
UIUC story
i mean police tends to overreact
No Illini alerts here yet
is everyone good?
not sure
hmm
I saw the story
indeed police officers are holding rifles
entering into hopkins
i only have the co25 story
uhhhh
i was just walking past there tf
noticed nothing
hope everyone is unharmed
not the cops just casually slinging a rifle
How safe is UIUC's campus?
I'm talking about not just around the university complexes but also the surrounding town area.
there's some concerning violent crime statistics in the champaign-urbana area but imo, nobody generally feels unsafe here. do verify the stats and judge carefully from other's impressions
@tired robin are you a current student?
yes
How good is the food
Honest opinion
Most people only stay on campus freshman year though right?
pretty repetitive and mediocre right now, was fine last year imo
no, but can be a very nice to have. buses are relatively reliable for the campus area
bc most have to
i thought you guys were talking about johns hopkins for a sec
idk your metric of "popular" but i see skateboards, bikes, scooters, etc. just bear in mind snow and theft
so what happened
thats cool
is there a lot to do around campus? do u ever take the drive to chicago or anythin
eh i dont, but a weekend chicago trip sounds like a vibe
but we busy ppl
i tend to study, hangout at apts, party at frats apartments, bars, eat out, etc.
graingers dont even have time to shower
lmao
im spitting fax tho
see if we were smack in a city
sure, we'd love to go to whatevers close by
but since we dont, time goes towards other activities
cs+gaming
i wish
yeah i was gonna say
georgia tech has that
computational media
man uiuc acm looks so cool
georgia tech and i are beefing
im joining the linux group at uiuc acm if i go
y
lmao
conditional
thats good man congrats
I'm in state with high sat and dual enrollment
u mean de math or cs?
won't work with me bc i was planning on a gap year
im doing distance math year 1
join the gnulag
gulag time
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
they even have an irc channel
unbelievably based
mental stuff I've barely done stuff in the class
ah okay, good luck
gonna talk to gregory mayer about it soon
hes the goat fr
true
nicest teacher ever. i met wit him
so sad he's not doing the vids anymore
no I've heard they're useless
i think theyre useful for the written assignments
and they don't fit my schedule
yeah same. none on wed is annoying
wed is coding club for me and i lead so i can't really miss
ru in cs 1301
im doing that rn
even tho i know python its so annoying. just tons of busy work for no reason
I'm not doing distance cs
i had already done apcsa so i didn't think it would be worth
Anyone know who hosting
wdym
?
Frats lmao
oh I'm not doing greek
what was the deal with the rifles???
is anyone going out tn
I am
people meeting up at the a2c thread for their school is crazy
Meeting up?
lolol I'm chilling at an apt and prob will stay, but where u goin
Do you guys know if a class that satisfies three different gen Ed requirements counts for all 3?
Or do you just get to choose which requirement you want to use the class for
i believe so, at least ones that do 2 satisfy 2
but theres like 1 3-way class so i never tried it
whoever is taking ochem as an elective is a monster
Tke
You know anywhere I could get in lmao?
uhHHh
i noticed some of the smaller houses just having a fk ton of ppl
so no way they are checking ppl at an entrance
i remember a frat in a smaller house, i think it's delta something (a block or two west of insomnia cookies) where the guys was nice and just let us in. just vibe well
yeyeye
What are the odds of being accepted from an appeal or waitlist for cs+stats?
probably wont be the highest
I heard it was 0% last year
based on last years stats 0% bcs 0 people got admitted last year from waitlist
yea probably
Wait so how often do appeals work
you just submit like
extra info
if you dont have any
dont bother submitting it tbh
0% bcs no one has said it worked yet
Is it worth a shot if I try to elaborate more on my courses and ecās
Like on the common app I talked more about what I did in my activities and for some of them I donāt think I was clear enough about what the actual organization/club was
And then for courses like AP Gov and AP Physics I didnāt specify that gov is both us and comparative and physics is both mechanics and e&m
what ab math + cs
it was 0 people from the entire waitlist for the entire school š
at that point you might as well ask to be reconsidered for a different major lol
guys if you want to get tech jobs after college you dont really need a cs degree
all the stuff you do at these companies you never end up learning in class anyway
despite what random people on the internet tell you, you can find success without immediately getting a 6 figure job out of college
- random person on the internet
Wait the waitlist was zero last year š
Im on the waitlist this year, there goes my chances LMFAO
https://www.reddit.com/r/ApplyingToCollege/comments/11j1spa/its_kinda_hard_to_accept_that_competitive_school/
š cs be a slaughter house fr
Is it possible to transfer into cs+x from ece?
isnt the transfer into cs+x 80%
you just have to meet some requirements i think
Itās post like these that make me see why they donāt get accepted
They come off as cocky and entitled
Like thatās gotta show through their essays
Also someone claimed yield protection- THATS a BS excuse people need who canāt cope
Especially for public schools which donāt
hooonestly i am a little bummed i got rejected but also i felt like my essays were not very good because of such a small word count hahahah so its like š¤·āāļø
what the fuck
thats not too surprising tbh
cs is just competitve
Nah
It's gonna be hella low
This year
Cause this is the first year they banned CS transfers
So everyone guns for CS + x
yea its possible
why dont you just do CE if you wanna be a swe
Iām trying to figure out my options
you can easily transfer to ce
Yeah but with the course requirements it might take longer
no
ur already in ece
so i doubt you need to take everything that someone from outside of ece has to do
to transfer to ece
It is EXTREMELY easy to switch within ECE if you do well in ECE110 and ECE120 and keep a good GPA (which is pretty easy to do since 110 and 120 are very basic). The advisors told me that to switch, itās as simple as just filling out a form, getting it signed by the head of the department, and da-ta youāre in CE.
I found this on the transfer page
Imma call the ece office tomorrow and figure it out
thats eems legit
thats like
alot of stuff tho
thats weird
i think that stuff is just what you would take anyway tho
those are just the base CE requirements
you have to do them regardless transfer or not
I found this as the transfer requirements for non ee majors
idk where you are looking but those arent the requirements for CE
the first img you showed are the requirements
bro thats actulaly the dumbest shit ever
Itās on the grainger transfer page
they should have u just take cs173 and 225 and transfer cuz you would have to take everything else anyway
yep
theres no extra courses you are takiing by doing ee -> CE
it looks like they are trying to dissuade people from doing it
anyone here got the acceptance rate of people who got waitlisted here in 2022? I can only find the ones from 2018
please @ me when you find it
someone said it was 0 last year
that was last last year
last year's cds is not out yet
they tried to get 8k enrolled in the past few years
so 2020 they took in like 400 from waitlist
17% in 2020 https://www.collegekickstart.com/blog/item/class-of-2025-waitlist-notification-dates-and-stats
looking at the previous years it changes a lot
so you shouldnt bet an acceptance on it
you the goat no cap
I mean yea you have a point, but im a gambler and I like my chances even if its low low
It was 0% this past cycle, but it's really just - how well did UIUC do in calculating yield rate? If they did badly in either direction it could be 0% or 30%,
My friend got off waitlist last year
So it def wasnāt 0
It wasnāt for CS thoufg
it was last last year that had 0 waitlist acceptances
last year's cds is not out
Good thing im not cs im civil eng š¤
Nice
general?
Civil my b
still nice
I hope UIUC messed up their yield rate (totally not biased by any means lmao)
does uiuc give stickers and stuff?
do u know how long it takes
bc i wanna see my fin aid stuff too
i think i pay sub 15k
fin aid is not mailed to you
idk about fin aid
didnt apply
zamn
Subtle flex
hi
if u get the korean bbq chicken next to tenko
think twice before getting spicy
it tastes great but tummy would beg to differ
you aren't a real one until you've been on the toilet begging for forgiveness from god @tired robin
dew it
eat it
Shaquille O' Neal rapping about one of his favourite subjects BARBECUE CHICKEN.
huh I need to try this place
I literally found out a week ago
there were restaurants there
lmao
never knew there was stuff in east side
whats good restaurants near uiuc
I eat a lot of chinese food LOL so most of my recs will be chinese food
but lemme make a list
chinese food is always good
what types of food do they serve in the dining halls
im an asian i cant eat sandwiches and pizza everyday
panda express š»
authentic chinese food lets go
id eat that up
i only eat it when im on vacation
i never eat it when im home
cuz there is better stuff
nice what types
idk i just heard that there are a bunch of food options
bjz is making a list
so you will know soon
marked for spam
stupid bot
can u like split the list in half?
In order of how good they are to bad (on campus only)

Other restaurants we have (chains):
- Subway
- Raising Canes

- Chipotle
- Taco Bell
- Papa Johns
- Dominos
- Vinny's Pizza

- Insomnia Cookies (a staple tbh)
canes lets go
canes kinda mid
the sauce š
not worth the hype tbh
list is making me hungry
I dont think I've been to half
depends what you eat
I ate a huge bowl with 3 types of sides for 15 today
there is a bowl with 2 sides for 7 dollars here
only lunch
I havent tried to high end restaurants here yet
like the sushi
how do u get it like this
the font
3 hi 3
like
triple
like this
it good for code writing
yeah
System.out.println("Hello World");
the most generic line in the existence of coding
import java.util.*;
SELECT * FROM UIUC;
theres a bunch of text format things on discord
this the java format
System.out.println("Hello World");
they have it a for a bunch of languages
ok apparently I'm touring uiuc thursday any suggestions
no way š
and also did u just get ur decision
wait
what about
.ORIG x3000
LEA R0, PRINTING
PUTS
HALT
PRINTING .STRINGZ "Hello World!"
.END
OR
hmu
ill give you a better tour
dont actually hmu
im gonna be home
Na I applied Ea
I got Uc riverside back a couple days ago
They gave my second major which was math lol
if i put ece in my resume would i be able to get into swe clubs/internships as an ee major
yea ur fine
ees donāt rly have issues getting into swe
u can work towards the cs minor
before transferring to ce
minor has 124 128 173 224 374
all that enoguj for swe
do cs lol
cs more useful
but maybe u can do both
idk how that works with EE courseload
I imagine it would be lots of work
yeah probably
u got a lot of ap credits?
idk if its a lot but i got a 5 in calc bc and a 5 in ap stats, im retaking cs a this year cuz i got a 3 when i took the class, and then im taking both tests for physics c and gov this year. i also have the composition I requirement complete through the SAT and im taking math 241 through netmath rn
hey guys did anyone apply to the uiuc business school, if you did, what major?
donāt bother taking the cs exam
uiuc doesnāt give anything
for it
actually it could b useful if you get into better schools
Ik but Iām gonna try to prof out of cs124/125 and 128 so Iām taking it for practice
Iām trying to transfer to CompE asap so I gotta take care of prerecs
I might also try for cs+physics if itās open for ict next year
Do you think itāll be competitive or would it be easier since itās a new major
Iām getting destroyed in e&m rn ngl
Same lolol
everything will be competitive
I have a 75% in e&m rn š
and the class is heavily curved
š
Whatās your curve like
For me the tests are curved but those are the only things that go in the gradebook
24/30 is 10/10
20/30 is 9/10
15/30 is 8/10
11/30 is 7/10
9/30 is 6/10
8/30 is 5/10
tests are 20% for us
quizzes are 20%
hw 20%
group quiz 20%
labs 2%
20%
on tests we usually get a 10-20% curve and itās all mc
itās heavily curved lmao
what was UIUC's data sci acceptance rate this year
no clue
This page provides coursework for the BSIS+DS degree program.
this shit is literally a social science degree
u canāt tell me otherwise
Lmfao bro
You donāt even take the same classes CS majors take
I donāt get why people apply for EE/CE just to transfer to Cs
Itās kinda rude tbh
My friend is at data science here, and he says itās fine
Heās gotten far in interviews from Motorola and other companies as a freshmen
And heās in DS*IS
I can also confirm this isnāt true, theyāre similar enough to where it doesnāt matter
Grainger
For the first few classes yes, but the later on ones are far different in technical
i got in for arts and sciences though
Because the graduate DS rank is good, these rankings look at graduate schools
How dead is campus during spring break? Thatās the only chance Iāll have to visit
Our DS program launched this year
There's no way it instantly becomes top 5
It's based on our graduate rankings
Probably similar to the IS acceptance rate, which was 68%
Tbh if you wanna get the best DS foundation at uiuc I highly recommend CS + stats or just a stat major with a CS minor
Because it's very rigorous
At least you take calc 3 in this path
DS majors are uiuc don't even take calc 2
So it can only be applied DS never any theoretical knowledge
It's pretty dead
Altho I'm gonna be on campus cuz I'm intl student š
Touring the area around there is good
Cause you got into CS + x
Also ur CS + ling right?
alright i only have like an hour outside of my tour before i fly home
Tour the FLB
yea
A lot of ling classes in FLB
It shouldn't be locked
Maybe try Beckman too
They have some linguistic research going on there
Obviously tour the siebel center of computer science
And the electric computer engineer building
stole my friends uiuc hat
Wdym prof out
Proficiency tests
I dont recomend proffing outta 128
not only is it hard
but it teaches some really important stuff
124 is just apcsa
that you can skip
How hard are they
fr it was so random man
Idk but Iād assume it varies course to course
They donāt need to take the full course though I do t think thatās a big deal
The DS+IS program isnāt bad by any means itās very strong
Itās new but not bad
Which CS + X is the easiest to get into ?
Thinkin of appealing for a diff major
Applied to Cs onlyā¦
I agree its not bad
its just there are better alternatives at UIUC for the goal
like a stat major will be stronger imo
has anyone appealed and successfully gotten into CS
It depends what you wanna do with industry
yea
yea
if you get a masters its good
but most masters in DS
require you to take calc 3
as an undergrad
which IS+DS does not do
personally I like Astro+DS
because they take some heavy classes
I like Astro + CS
not only calc3 but also quantum physics etc
Astronomy right?
Iām meeting with an advisor today to ask about a double major in astronomy š
damn wait so
All astronomy core counts as compE tech electives
No
aight thats cool then
basically ur actually in both colleges then?
LAS + Grainger
yea thats gonna be cool
Yes
I wanna see the difference in difficulty lmao
Astronomy courses have a kinda low gpa too
hey does anyone know if maths + cs and stat + cs is considered as cs + x
But my friends said different types of people are taking the courses
Math + CS is not
yea its physics
Stats + cs I donāt think so
maths cs is so 7% acceptance rate?
yea stats&CS is not cs+x
and stats cs is 20smth?
no
ah
its about the same for both
so only stuff listed on cs + x r cs + x
Not really
idk what they count statcs and mathcs as
Thatās astrophysics
okok thx
ahhh
Lemme pull up courses
oh we have an astrophyiscs major???
I didnt even know that lol
oh you guys do take the 4 physics sequence
oh huh the astro major is quite short
Both my majors do
like most LAS majors
Yep
I just gotta hope I can graduate in 4 years
Thatās what Iām meeting with an advisor for
Also
My advisor told me I only need a 3.25 for an masters in engineering at uiuc lol
Not auto admit
But a solid chance
Iām also in state
And am doing school at uiuc for undergrad so
Even for intl??
No
š
oh does instate matter for grad?
yea thats true
Either neutral or helpful
Iām sssuming neutral but
Public schools are meant to serve their states
yea
What is the grade system in UIUC; do u all have like a final exam each semester which determines ur whole GPA?
no
depends on the class
Meh
I mean
Yeah what BJZ said
I have some clssses where a final is worth 5-10%
And then one where itās worth 25%
yea
And tests are 65%
I think there was a class where a final is 60%
but there wont be a class with 100% final
but just read the syllabus and map out what you need to emphasize
oh ye
theres that
some classes just dont have a final
namely the first few cs classes
yea thers a few here and there
So um
Uiuc just randomly threw 20k/year at me
This "Roy Mercer Young" scholarship thing
One sec
did u just get the mail and is it in ur portal
I just received the mail, then I noticed it was in my portal
theyāre all filled up by now
Under what section?
The financial aid one
I donāt see mine yet
I didnāt apply for financial aid but they still gave me a scholarship so the amount will come later ig
hi sorry to bother again, just wondering if they mean all the blended cs majors for this
Yes
It says in the fjrst 6 words
yea so like in their first paragraph they mention abt cs+x being 25.4% so technically they mean all blended cs majors? idk
they use different terms everywhere
Yes
okok thx
@tender matrix I called admissions and they said they didnāt accept me for cs+stats cuz in my second essay I talked about interest in the field of cs+stats rather than the major
Yet I literally talked about classes in the major I wanted to take and a club I wanted to join
blended means cs+x and stat and cs and math and cs
oh shit
wait they actually told you???
wtf thats a first
bro they are just assholes
they said the same thing to me
like "your writing doesn't convey the major well"
bruh I literally put in what clubs I wanna do and what future direction I had
I dont know what the heck they are looking for in that tbh
I literally had 3 people who got into uiuc cs look at my essays too
yeah they tell u everything
i asked the counselor i was talking to why i got denied and he started reading the notes
and i asked why UIUC didnt download the common app school profile and he kinda avoided the question
i think my appeal could work
Is it worth it to call back and ask them to reconsider my application because I think they misread my essay
sure u can call
LOLLL
their office is closing soon tho
no way š
yeah
go for it
you have maybe until 4 before they close
so call asap
its kinda crazy
See but the thing is I called them 15 minutes ago
the dude just said
"u clearly spent some time with ur essays"
@timid island i dont think the essay was what got u denied
its fine
yeah @tender matrix i was initially just calling to get a counselor's name for the appeal form, but i ended up getting info about my app as a whole
kinda crazy
They said they found academic strength in my application and the only note for why I was denied was that I demonstrated interest in the field of cs+stats rather than the major
damnnn
thats so stupid
especially since you put in clubs and all
what does that even mean
interest in the field
rather than the major
that literally makes no sense
what does that even mean yeah
Idfk
why didnt u clarify?
I talked about specific classes and clubs at uiuc I wanna do
@tender matrix u think the phone call req for appeal is to weed out the insular kids who cant talk to people
š¤£
LMAOOO
watch me get in
got denied stat+cs, appealing grainger cs šÆ
i had a pretty funny explanation
@tender matrix do you think theyād let me talk to the AO that actually reviewed my application
no
hmmm maybe
dude
damn
nah
it might be easier to appeal for that
I just did that like 20 minutes ago
cause grainger cs is packed as fuck
Should I keep EE or be risky and appeal to CS+X
u got denied ECE?
No I got in
oh
yeah i wouldnt even appeal that
hmm
do u have good stats @timid island
if u want
but im pretty sure uiuc mainly looks at stats
so if nothing changed
i dont see how they would accept u
GPA: 4.27 W / 3.91 UW
No rank but I think top 15-25%
SAT: 1510 composite, 790 Math, 740 English
Classes: AP CS A, AP Stats, AP Calc BC, AP Physics C, AP Gov, UIUC NetMath Calc 3 administered by my school, Advanced Orchestra at my school, Teaching a Freshman Advisory Class
ECās: SWE Internship, State Chapter President for Senior Citizen Tech Education nonprofit, National Curriculum Director for youth STEM education nonprofit, Mu Alpha Theta Exec Board, Youth and Government VP, published statistical and mathematical computing algorithms on a top GitHub repository, Computing Team, Math Team, Youth Advisory Council for Local Representative
Awards: ACSL Finalist, National Merit Commended, AP Scholar, Youth and Government State Officer, Top 50 Contributor on aforementioned GitHub repository
Common app essay about overcoming struggles in public speaking
I feel like my ECās are strong but everything else is average
you had better stats than me
my ECs are about the same maybe as yous?
altho i had stronger awards
you were definetly on the line
Should I keep EE and switch to CompE when I can or try applying to another CS + X
Yeah
Iād prefer cs+x but idk if itās worth risking ece
And Id have nothing to say in my appeal for cs+stats
Besides āyou misinterpreted my essayā
bruh what does that even mean š
My guess is it would like saying āI want to be a software engineerā rather than āI want to study computer scienceā but I genuinely donāt fucking know
lmfao
If anyone is willing to read my essays and offer some insight feel free to take a look
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MXO8ld1-yq-_AscHNyKEVmqRHHx84rs8el14mtrGX7I/edit
Explain, in detail, an experience you've had in the past 3 to 4 years related to your first-choice major. This can be an experience from an extracurricular activity, in a class youāve taken, or through something else (150 words) After logging off my 10:00 am team meetings, my mind raced with CRU...
Yes and yes
Except I only wanna go to uiuc if it means I can land a high paying job in swe
those essays should b good enough
I would stick with EE
you can still do SWE with EE
worst case
EE with cs minor
Yeah
still worth it
I also emailed the ece advising office and they said I could hypothetically transfer after my first year with my current credits
But also that cs225 is almost impossible to take in my first year bc of prerecs
thatās not true
you can prof 124
take 128 173 in first sem
Then 225 second sem
Itās gonna take some work tho
what should u say in ur appeal form
if u can't put like new activities and stuff
and can't demonstrate ur interest
Yea probably
For cs majors 128 and 173 are the prereq for 225
i'd say 225 is really difficult to get first semester as that tends to be first sem for sophs
Yea Iām saying second semester tho
if i want a ds related minor should i minor in stats or cs
Yo join the stats club
Sigaida is rly dry
you should say double it and give it to the next person (me) when I hopefully get off the waitlist
Yea
gulag
anyone done cs 125
124 or 125? 125 is phasing out, if not already
they support arm and x86
What
for formatting I mean
yeah im saying ones they have
yeaht thats what i meant sorry
is it hard?
depends how comfortable you are; but imo it's OOP fundamentals taught fast
we have a public near-clone of the course, see https://www.learncs.online/
An introduction to computer science
content:
nice
looks kind of hard if its in java
not terrrible tho
i heard the prof is famous or something
uhh
how close is kotlin and java. I heard they are similar but dont know the specifics
kotlin is a "successor" in some respects; imo, a mondernized rendition of the language and somewhat meant to replace it
also the "primary" lang for android development, replacing java
much better null handling, no "everything is a class lmao", etc.
i remember him mentioning that zuck asked him to work on facebook during its harvard days so in an alternate universe he could be hella rich lol
bro thats wild LMAO
uiuc reddit is so cool
much less dead than georgia tech reddit
class avg is a 90? (though thats misleading, again very leniently graded != you are fully comfortable with everything it teaches)
it's meant to be for CS majors, minors, etc. (though not to be confused with out CS 101, which is poorly taught imo)
it has a whole page on proffing out, but imo AP CS A is not enough
for cs 101?
124
isnt that class like python?
yeah
oh yeah definitely not from looking at what it covers
csa has 3 units on types of arrays only
motivated/accel ppl can prob test out of 124
which i shouldve considered doing more
but i outweighted it with the hell that 128+173 brings
yeah you'll need a (fairly) basic understanding of common DS
scary fr
i sometimes regret not trying to prof out of 124 but it most likely woulda killed my schedule and hope in life for semester 1, at the benefit of completing 225 in 2nd sem (which is really nice)
128+173 is no joke, though theres a handful that prof all the way to starting with 374 lmao
i remember us just nuking the difficulty of 128 prof exam in the past tho
im gonna grind teh whole summer and test out of physics 1 2 hopefully
if i bomb the ap
a big emphasis im hearing from the intro course profs is to get you to code a fk ton, regardless how experienced you are. we used to run a 125+126 sequence but that didnt fit well with the CS+X or minor sequence, so 125 -> 124 and 126 (where u code to hell) -> 128 (C++ hell) + 222 (semester group proj)
that makes sense
this sem im taking intro to cs at georgia tech and even tho i know python, the psets are just so much coding
yeah, thats probably somewhat by design
unfortunately not all code you write will be interesting
yeah its always simple stuff just like...hella problems
should easily get an A but not fun
i assume ur going for cs minor, so if so, you got hella time. if anything, mind might change as you go
imo it is a phenomenally tough minor as we chuck you through most of the CS intro sequence, so i wish employers respected it more (at least those in our local research park might)
yes i am. maybe stats since im particularly interested in ds but well see
cools
remember you're not gonna learn everything (you want) in courses so decide what's best to do or have from here
good point! def something to think about
uiuc cs is better
they are pretty similiar
id choose gt though
cs @ gtech
uiuc slightly better but cost more important
but if its just cs then uiuc
Hopefully I get in Georgia tech so I get to make this decision lol
i think it depends. uiuc better for quant
but gt has cs threads which are really cool and better location
is it possible to become a quant/consultant with an ece degree from uiuc
what can i do to get ahead
as a cs major at uiuc
and get a's in all my first-year classes
any tips anyone
Proficiency tests to get out of low level cs classes
Other than that just put in a shit ton of time
Which is better for CE UIUC UMich or Gt
