#Biology Major - Need Help With Finding Some Private Targets and Reaches (Also BSMD SCHOOLS!!!)
26 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Major: Biology (Still deciding on this one; Might do either Neuro or Psychology). My end goal is to become a neurosurgeon.
GPA: 4.0 (UW), re-taking SAT on Oct 1st.
Curriculum: Honestly, I don't mind academic rigor. I already go to a school that is quite competitive and offers a variety of challenging courses; however, I would love to have a school that allows me to do other things outside of school (internships, social life, etc:).
Size: Small to medium. Would love to have a close relationship with my professors + individual attention (which can serve me well for residency applications). Some of the schools I have listed currently on my list do not satisfy these requirements; however, they are outliers and if I get into one of them, I will attend.
Costs: Will definitely need financial aid. Looking at schools that cover 50-100% demonstrated financial aid.
Additional Information:
- Would love to go to a school that is a feeder for t20 medical schools.
- Research programs are KEY for me. I would love to attend a college that has a lot of medical research opportunities, whether that be through researching in labs or other internships.
- Preferred but not required: Warm climate.
Schools You Are Currently Looking At:
Safeties:
Baruch College, Brooklyn College, City College of New York, Binghamton University, Stony Brook University + a bunch of other schools that I cannot list off the top of my head.
Target Schools:
- Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education (Definitely need more targets; Would love to know of some BSMD schools that satisfy my requirements above
Reaches:
Princeton, Duke, Yale, Columbia, Harvard, JHU (Would love to research some more reaches!).
Case Western has a strong premed program, i think like 60% of grads go to med school
They also have a special program where if ur accepted to it you are guaranteed a spot in their med school if you keep a high enough GPA
Wow! That's really cool. I will definitely look into it. Thank you for that.
Case also does have a lot of research opportunities from what I've seen
a lot of students engage in research
They meet 100% aid also
Its a few miles from downtown Cleveland as well
only thing is weather is not great probably
Georgetown has one of those guarantees into their med school if your gpa is high enough too
