Lower tier metals are still useful when you are approaching the end game so why can the blast furnace not smelt lower tier metals?

Yeah they need to rethink workbenches. There is no point in having advance versions of workbenches that are not able to craft what their predecessor could

I mean i do get it. Blast furnace specifically would be to hot to smelt down the previous metals... like there are limits in metalurgy but thats bringing in rl logic.
The bigger thing is just they want you to have a large base eventually and have specific stations for specific goods rather than a 1 stop shop;
