if your attacker is doing top left you block left and look up in that direction to move your shield
or your 2h which are much harder to use
you gotta make there weapon make contact with your weapon with movement

Blocking should be simple and transparent, not be a risk that you use the wrong directional block and get a free hit

thats how the game was designed i doubt there gonna change it to compensate a few who dont have the skill to utilize the melee combat unfortunatly
