#Trying to avoid rotations during f2l

[Average 25]

I have done an ao5 for this very purpose, because of how much I wanna avoid the rotations, as it is slowing me down a lot. I have been told to learn EO, and I can't really get the basics (making me do this because I might be doing something wrong)

Anyways

@fast halo this might help you see my case I think

L U' L' or L U L' (different cases) for insertion to the left, and R' U R or R' U' R (different cases) for the right

#

two other cases where it's paired up but can't be solved using any of those are r' U' R U M' for the right and l U L' U' M' for the left

#

let me know if I need to send a video

don't do y2 rotations. Remember that good edges can be turned bad by a y or y' rotation. A y2 rotation keeps good edges good and bad edges bad so its pointless.

#

don't do M2 U2 M2 for cross, just plan it correctly
don't do B moves for cross, they're slow

#

your execution seems fine, but it looks like you have a high movecount which is your limiting factor. If you can reconstruct a couple of your solves i can give you some better f2l solutions

I think B moves are fine, if the finger trick is good like if u do an R' then use ur ring finger to do the B' move etc

#

ye they are situational, but i'd say for most f2l cases you shouldn't be using them

Don’t do

All F2L is RULF gen

Or you could join the rouxvolution

Oh f2l

I thought it was cross xD

otherwise f' L f or f R f' (or something) is faster

EO dichotomous key

  1. Does the piece have a yellow / white sticker? If yes go to 2 if not go to 3
  2. Is the peice in the U or D layer? If yes go to 4 if not go to 5
  3. Is the piece in U or D layer? If yes go to 6 if no go to 7
  4. Is rhe white or yellow sticker facing up or down? If yes go to 8 if no go to 9
  5. Is the yellow or white sticker facing away or towards you? If yes go to 8 if no go to 9
  6. Is the sticker with rhe F or B sticker facing up or down? If yes go to 8 if no go to 9
  7. Is rhe sticker with the F or B sticker facing towards or away from you? If yes go to 8 if not go to 9
  8. Your edge is orientated
  9. Your edge is misorientated

Like is the sticker with the F/B centre colour so say Blue/green does it face towards you or does it face away from you on the other side of the cube

After looking at the video, here’s some main things you probably need to work on.

-You are doing y2 rotations during f2l which you should never do. There is no situation where you will need to do a y2 rotation if your doing that same pair you can do it without the y2 rotation.
-Also, rotations aren’t always bad, in fact, if you use them smartly, they can actually be very useful. For example, most of the time, you always want pairs to be at the back, if you do all your pairs rotationless, you can have filled slots at the front, making it hard to look ahead. Also, a lot of algs that make pairs rotationless are absolutely horrible for lookahead. And, you also do some B moves during f2l. This is not ideal, most of the time B moves are horrible not just for lookahead but also for fingertricks.
-For cross I’m assuming your not planning the whole thing or your having trouble planning the whole thing. Your also using a lot of B moves during cross. B moves are fine for cross, I do it all the time, but in your solutions, there are a lot of better ways to do your cross instead of using B moves.
-A lot of your regrips are useless and can definitely be replaced with some simple alternative fingertricks that are a lot better, like the reverse push with your left index finger or pinch grip.

Idk just some tips, ping me if you have any questions :3

# soft obsidian Then, how do you do only useful rotations? I wanna stop the excess rotating

Excess rotations are when you do y2 or you do rotations that do absolutely nothing. Useful rotations are when it’s apart of a f2l alg or if your rotating to enhance lookahead. I suggest in instead of rotating, you do U moves instead because all you really need is the top layer to recognize f2l cases. And if there are edges at the back, you could do process of elimination but at your level you should probably just rotate. You should also learn algs that only have 0-1 rotations because those are the best. If you see a alg that has wide moves or slice moves, those are probably not the best.

Also EO. Good edges don’t need rotations, bad edges do. You dont really need to go into a zz level understanding in order to apply this principle to your own solves

#

If the side color of the edge matches a side center color then it’s a good edge. That’s it really

I'm starting to do f2l and only rotate when I don't know how to silve the pair in the back (and pray I know what I am doing) more seriously, along with the addition of the V and Ra perms: perms I recently learned

My times have gotten worse, but it's part of getting used to avoid y2 rotations (yeah it's still mainly the f2l)
