#Bug when trying to auto request from plex user watchlist

I am trying to set up Overseerr on my home lab so that my friends can add stuff to their watchlist on plex with the intended behaviour of Overseerr scanning their watchlists, creating a request and sending a discord notification.

I found a post from Oct. on this discord asking the same thing which was resolved through permissions - in my case I'm not so lucky.
[1] Made a plex user admin in Overseer just to be sure
[2] User > edit > general > allow auto requests
[3] discord bot works (test and it shows my requests)
Still nothing works. Even opted into the Plex Discovery beta thing, that didn't solve it either

The only differences I can see between my account which works flawlessly and any other friends account is that:
[1] I have logged into Overseerr with my plex account once (friends did not)
[2] My overseer account type is Owner, the others Plex User or Admin

EDIT: Overseerr is running as a trucharts app under TrueNAS Scale, everything up to date.

Any thoughts?

Your friend needs to log in to Overseerr with his Plex account

#

And to confirm, there's the permission "Auto-Request Movies/Series" that your friend's account needs to have and also needs to have "Auto-Request Movies/Series" checked under their profile's general settings

Thanks for getting back to me on this! so that isn't something that I can set up for them?

Apart from making sure they have the permissions and that option toggled on, nope

Given that I have imported all plex users I can edit all of them and set that up (User - edit - general page tick 2 boxes)

#

okay, so I'll give that a try and revert back if it doesn't work - should be pretty easy to test

okay, you were right! Thank you!! logging in once solved the issue but I'm thinking isn't this still a bug?

#

here's what I tested:

  • imported user 3 from plex into Overseer and assigned all relevant permissions directly from my admin side
  • retested plex watchlist sync job - did not work
  • logged into the local instace of Overseerr at 192.168.... with user 3 plex creds. and did NOT change a thing
  • retested plex watchlist sync job - this time it worked flawlessly
#

given that I din't have to make any changes on the user side in Overseerr and that exposing Overseerr over WAN is well.. complicated I expected this to work without the users having to log in

When you say

logged into the local instace of Overseerr at 192.168.... with user 3 plex creds. and did NOT change a thing
Did you log in to Overseerr with Plex with their username/password?

#

The user has to log in because Overseerr needs the authorisation of the user to grab their watchlist from Plex

yes, that is what I did. so if I'm understanding this right, just logging into Overseerr with the Plex creds is enough for the authorisation to kick in

#

i see the privacy concerns here for sure but too bad that it requires a login, without that the experience would have been more streamlined

#

anyway, understood the reason and how to make it work. thank you!
