how come mark schemes never include a mod for ln x ?

I think in many applied calculus problems, especially differential equations -variables like time, length, or population are assumed to be positive (x > 0), so the modulus isn't strictly needed.

Got it. for this specific case since they multiply by 2 & it becomes ln x^2 in step 3. The mod becomes redundnat anyway
