If you think about it, the space left when arranging the circles in order is enough so that if you were to arrange these discs in such a pattern you could probably cut out more than 32 discs, probably 33 or 34 even though the mark scheme says that its 32 discs so how would you work that out or is the mark scheme wrong?

32 is right. since the question specifically talks abt cutting out, u cant mention rearranging left over parts. if the question was smthn like the sheet is boiled and then the molten plastic is moulded into a number of CDs, then u wld find the area of the rectangle and divide it by the area of the CD, cos u can manipulate the shape of the sheet that way.
